On this episode, Seth is joined by Jason Slinkard of CCI and Audrey Mayes and Leland Mason of Remington Ammunition. The group discusses multi-gun action found at the Zombies in the Heartland Match at the Heartland Public Shooting Park. The conversation then shifts to some technical aspects of primers as well as what goes into the engineering and R&D of new rimfire products. We hope you enjoy this great show with some industry friends!

Where are all the CCI large rifle primers?

Wish I had enough large rifle primers that I could choose between regular and match primers, it's whatever you can get. Nice to know that they are basically the same primers and should not have much of an impact on reloads. Great show Seth.

Primers have been in short supply for 6 years! There is no excuse for the manufacturers to still not have ramped up lines to make more primers!

They're still selling out at 3x the price... there is no incentive for them to increase supply. Kinetic stock is up 260% since 2020.

@joearledge
@joearledge 8 дней назад
Not really, Hodgdon gauged a few months back out of no where. Any company owned by Vista Outdoors, including Remington, Federal, CCI, Speer, Alliant, and others, absolutely refuse to even attempt to make production of anything come even remotely close to demand, while engaging in price gauging at the same time. The only ones even trying to keep up are hornady and overseas manufacturers.

Loved hearing from folks in other parts of the industry. Yes there is the friendly competition part, but the comardarie and shared knowledge is not something most of us are aware of. Would also like to see it on the firearms side. Good job everyone

Where are the large rifle primers for the hand loader? They are now unobtainable for the common man, where all of the other primers seem to be at least somewhat available ? Large Rifle... can't touch them, or even see them

Buy them from a reputable online dealer. They're out there. Just don't go to the fraudsters. Legit options include: Midsouth, Basspro, Normausa, etc. There's a lot of options out there. And usually you can find free hazmat/shipping. $0.10/p isn't uncommon right now for LRP. Not a great price, but available.

How about bringing back the Federal match 22LR , that had a center dimple in the base , so the priming compound was moved to the outer edge more uniform , also make a copy of the OLD Lapua scoremax , sub at 48gr bullet weight .That old scoremax was the best subsonic 22LR ever made .

The reason so many folks still shoot .22 LR when you get better ballistic performance from 22WSM or even a 17? Lapua, SK and RWS, even Eley don't load for anything rimfire other than .22 When can we expect some of your companies to offer ammunition with Benchrest / Olympic consistency standard of the above mentioned manufacturers, many folks are still choosing the .22LR because its the only one that you can find ammunition loaded to handloaded quality when you look at ES and SD consistency needed for long range rimfire shooting.

here is a question for them... what will it take to get primers back to 25$ a brick? will it ever happen? same for powder....
@joearledge
@joearledge 8 дней назад
It's part of the plan genius. MSRP on 22LR is $0.05 to $0.10 each currently. It takes more time, money, effort, and materials to make a 22LR than it does to make a primer, and they're made in smaller quantities. They don't want you to have primers and powder. The gooberment pays them to not release stuff to/ produce stuff for civilians. Ever wonder why powder literally doubled in price overnight a few months ago for no apparent reason?? Reducing/ eliminating the supply and making it unaffordable is a disarmament tactic.
@RKBA300WM
@RKBA300WM 6 часов назад
Uh never. We have this thing called inflation. $25 in 2000 is equivalent to $46 today... while $70-90 a brick is still far too much, we will never see $20/lbs of powder, ever again.

Yes, it sucks that you can no longer get 1k primers for $35. But look at the inflation of everything else. Par for the course. I was curious the difference in BR4 and BR2 vs Match. Heavier cup? @@Yetified_Mayhem I'm not sure of your point. If you see tests in real ballistic gel vs. clear ballistic gel... it pretty much lives up to the hype. All that said, it's .22lr. I think people should go larger for self defense. You wanna run .22lr for that, well that's on you. There are lighter recoiling rounds than 9mm, that are better performing than 22lr.

The issue I have with Kinetic is selling out to FOREIGNERS!. They had domestic offers. Then the gibberish about new gun owners.......Well, my guess is that the new gun owners were buying handguns probably 9MM/380 and 38 Special. They use small primers. So how does that affect LARGE RIFLE PRIMERS? Do you tear down equipment between sizes? or do you have fixed production equipment! Too bad Hornady had bought Remington Brand!
@ockertmeyer9484
@ockertmeyer9484 6 дней назад
Thanks, gr8 and informative. I’m an addicted OCD reloader myself and often thought that my quest to consistent reloading has compensated for a lack of range time. One thing I’ve been wondering about is whether powder that enter the pimer and flash hole after reloading might equate to inconsistency. Surely this will happen to different amounts and degree. Ball powder more so compared to extruded powder I guess. Ammo being transported/stored in the vertical vs horizontal position. Vibration that over time might lead to compaction. No way that this potential space will be filled and compressed with a consistent amount of powder. Might this make a difference?? I know this comes down to splitting hair, but that’s what we do. I found some anecdotal information on the net of people seating primers through paper and using ‘flash hole wads’ to prevent this. More so with black powder rifles. Does anyone have more infomation or thoughts on this?
