@@ShipHappensUK That is totally terrible to read, I think he does a great job, I think the few idiots making bad comments don't add up to all the people making nice comments or giving their best suggestions and loads of people who watch but don't comment. Sometimes I do wonder why you 2 are doing things a certain way, but learned by watching your channel you do everything with a plan. And seeing you creating the deck beams no just proves you are going forward with steady steps .. While you were doing the front stringers and stuff and I saw the tops of the planks it scared me, but that's also proved to be repairable .. its soo much fun seeing you 2 work, making fun of each other and still get all that work done. Its a total inspiration.

Ignore the dissenters, they can never see just how much effort you put into this project for little, comparative financial reward. In any case, what does it matter? You are entertaining us every week and slowly but surely bringing Sarinda back to her former glory, if not better than original. Keep up the good work. ❤

Hi guys, First of all, ignore the negativity from trolls, some people are just born miserable. Secondly, I'm originally from Widnes, on the banks of the Mersey, where i grew up, on, in, and around boats, and as I'm sure you'll know, boating gets into your blood. I love your show, it is the week's highlight for me. I miss boating and your show takes me back to some happy memories. A suggestion from the extreme most cautious person following your project. I would take that beam out to Sarinda and find a way to thread it through the hull at the widest beam and lift it up against the deck. We know there will be sag in the existing deck beam - so there won't be a perfect match. But just for peace of mind given the great cost of both materials and labor - I would want to make that field check to confirm that the new deck beams match up with what Sarinda's original builders had in mind. 👍

You could probably reduce the spring back when remove the lamination from the form is you left it a couple of days before removal. I used to laminate archery bow limbs and despite the epoxy being hard after overnight it definitely has not achieved its full cure which would be more like 48 hours at 20c. Most high strength lams are cured at 60degC for 8 to 12 hours and the cure times get exponentially longer as the temp reduces. You are doing a fantastic job and all the glue lam parts you are making are orders of magnitude stronger than the the originals.--- Graeme

Hi Guys, Great watching you do this work it brings back many memories of doing this type of form work in the past myself. Please please put the riving knife and overhead guard on to your panel saw. There is a lot of internal pressure in man-made boards and timber which can cause the material to pinch the blade and create kick back. I was a cabinet maker and it happened to me, even with the riving knife the kick back was enough to dislocate my left thumb so that it pointed back up my arm. As for the overhead guard well that speaks for itself. Be safe please! Your doing such a fantastic job on Serinda moving on so fast. Thank you for such interesting content.

GREAT JOB! Instead of using Varnish or Paint on the beams - you could just give them a coat of the Epoxy - it would probably last a LOT longer than ANY type of varnish, and it will penetrate into the wood and give it a beautiful look!

Looks great. Some spring is good, because the weight of the decking will tend to flatten it.

Hi Gemma & Simon. You make superbly entertaining, & addictive video's. You both have amazing skill's, & ingenuity, & innovation. You should never have to justify your income, just because some people are rude enough to question it? That's totally your business, & nobody else's. In my honest opinion, I believe that your video's would make a superb TV series just as they are, ie, each finished video, just how you edit them? Many thanks, & kind regards to you both, & to your family.

There's a first time for everything. Don't let your guard down for even a split second. After 55+ years of using all types of power tools, I got my finger with a table saw.

The busiest talent you guys have is patience! Well maybe not. You have many other skills too. I just am amazed at how patient you both are in picking away at the renovation.

The deck beams were originally that small to get weight out of the boat as they were go fast boats trying to avoid the more heavily armed German E-boats.

You are doing the correct method which I did not use. I got two methods on is using African mahogany solid planks and cut the radius only on the top beam. But I have also used very long Balu 10x10 6 m planks that are straight and I found that I could brace it in the center sufficient to make the radius. Good luck with your method

This might help with alignment of the laminate. Dry fit the timbers and get the alignment perfect when its dry... Drill some 10mm holes in it. Use an oak dowell to keep the alignment (or make iroko ones which is a PITA as Iroko is very hard). Put a point on the dowel. Keep the dowel in the top piece when you are epoxying up. Hammer it home when you are laying up the laminates. Clamps are still necessary, but you should be perfectly aligned on the horizontal, with no loss of strength. I did this with a replacement rubbing strake in laminate iroko, and it has been fine for years....
