Thanks for the video. Currently waiting on delivery of my new WO carb for the 49 3a. Good to see it appears to be a quality piece. Some of the jets in my original carb were jammed in so tight I can’t get them out for a rebuild. Interesting to hear that it didn’t really make a difference on yours anyway. FWIW my original carb has the tag on the firewall side just like your new one.
You need to replace your points and condenser. The points are very important. They are the basis of a proper tune up. Take the number from the distributor to get the proper points. Also, spark plug wires and rotor and cap should be changed at the same time, if they haven’t been already.
With points, you can have a strong spark but not enough to have a smooth idle if they are pitted and dirty. In a pinch you can remove the points and polish them with a high speed scotch bright disc. The contact area should shine like a mirror but new replacement points is the best way. Also check for side play on the distributor shaft for bushing wear in the housing.
The guy I bought it from cleaned the points well enough for it to run but replacing the points, condenser, cap, and rotor are on the list. Plugs and wires already done at least.
I bought one and it flooded gas so badly I was afraid the whole Jeep was going to burn up. I sent it back for a refund. Gas was just pouring out like the float valve was missing.
Their quality control seems to be hit or miss. The one I got seems fine, though I still want to send my old one off for a proper rebuild. It needs a major overhaul to work like new.
