Big shoutouts to Bob for not letting Dom interrupt. He isn't rude about it, he just continues what he was saying. Love Dom, but I wish more guests would meet him half way on this WIP aspect of his hosting like Bob did here.
I must agree, I have felt at times that Mr Keating can be a little too quick to interrupt the guest. He does bring some great points, and I'm always interested to hear what he's got to say. But I think it would be great if he could have more restraint when a guest is in the middle of telling something interesting. Love your channel and great job as always guys!
I think you can modify the deserted island to "you get a replicator that can only give you one category of cuisine and one category of dessert, can also play a single author's catalog of music, and can replicate books from a single author", would be very thematically appropriate 🙃
Love having Robert Picardo on - he is easily a favorite on Voyager and he brings his own flare to whatever roles he takes on. Big thanks @ShuttelpodShow for this !!!
Thank you BOB and Dom is getting better at letting his guest talk without interrupting. Good episode. Forgot to mention that he was also on "Home improvement"
The Doctor might be my favorite Star Trek character ever. Definitely top 5. Everything this man has played, has stuck with me. He’s one of those actors that you can’t help but grin when you see him.
Found this show a couple weeks back, watched loads of episodes, excellent excellent podcast. Great chemistry between Dom, Mark, Connor, Erica and the weekly guest. Great discussions. Really enjoying this.
Picardo, what a class act and wonderful actor. He brings so much to even small roles, from the dual role of The Cowboy/Martin Short pretending to be The Cowboy in Inner Space, to the robotic Johnny Cab in Total Recall, you just know you're in for a treat when his name is in the credits. Just love these interviews! p.s. They need to convince him to narrate more audio books. One of the all-time great voices as far as I'm concerned.
@@weepingscorpion8739 When he points at his hair and says it was inspired by the 'outlaw Yo-see Wales' it kills me every time. I'd put this up there as one of the greatest comedic performances ever. And to do it channeling the legendary Martin Short... no small feat.
This is so awesome! The Doctor was one of my all-time favorite Star Trek personalities, and I’ve been waiting for this episode! Blessings to you, Robert Picardo, and thank you for the superb work you did on Voyager!
Great show guys. I've been looking forward to Bob coming on your show since you started. He's a supremely talented actor and gave us some of the best scenes in Trek history.
I've seen him on stage, I've seen him on film, I've seen him on TV, and I've listened to his "Scrooge" performance countless times. Robert Picardo is a true thespian Renaissance man. Bravo! Oh yeah, I almost forgot, The Doctor was the star of "Voyager."
He did his maneuver at 38:30. ◡̈ (i love the HONEST, witty, passionate, empathetic, layered discussions that these wonderful actors have. Shuttlepod is a freakin' TREASURE, man!)
@@annika_panickahmmm, I mean on the one hand you look to be about 30 years old in your profile pic and 7 is in her 50's now which would make it seem like 7 had the name first, on the other hand 7 is that age a few centuries in the future so in that sense you did have the name first, we'll have to check the temporal prime directive to sort this out lol
'Surreal'...getting to watch all these characters in the flesh. so to say...much thanks Shuttlepod and all that has brought this to fruition, may it last forever and ever...God Bless...
As much as Dom might trample on what might be an interesting story, he also keeps Picardo from wandering too far off topic at times. He's getting genuinely much better.
Oh, I was hoping for the longest time that you´d to get to my favorite doctor in all of Star Trek. I coincidentally just saw that Orville episode with him and the John Billingsley, who is also great. Those two should get a show of their own. Thanks for this episode!
This was a great episode! I remember a long time ago when my bro and I were in Vegas visiting the Star Trek exhibit at the Hilton(?). We saw Robert Picardo following these 2 kids half screaming down the exhibit and my brother recognized him. We got a chance to talk to him quietly (i had to hush my bro so poor Picardo didn't get mobbed) and he was so gracious and a gentleman! Loved this episode!
"You are my sunshine" is such an apt song for the Doctor and Seven. At first it sounds like a heartwarming song, while it really is quite a sad one about unrequited or lost love: > «You told me once dear you really loved me that no one else could come between but now you’ve left me and love another you have shattered all my dreams.»
Nice! Fantastic character development of ‘the Doctor’. Was it hard to act so dispassionate the first season? The growth of the character must have been inspirational for an actor.
This is a really great podcast and I'm glad I found it. It would be nice to see an appearance with Robert if there is a future Star Trek show with Jeri Ryan . Surely by now , as she's Captain of the Enterprise G , she would be able to have certain requests granted , and having her old Doctor would be a great addition. By now he could have his own android body and take up a post teaching at Starfleet Medical but would be the personal physician of Seven since he knows her best , just a thought. The Doctor was always a great character and it was a real treat to see his evolvement over time , and he had a great singing voice in all of the opera scenes. I wonder if the actors ever come to the page with their interviews and read the comments . I hope so because I have a great story. I'm in the medical field and during one of my training sessions I had an opportunity to mention the Doctor. For those who may not be familiar with what happens in a CPR certification course , when you're administering CPR , at some point you are to call out to someone and tell them to activate the EMS , the emergency medical system, and someone uses the phone or radio to call for help and brings the AED to you . Well during one of my sessions, I'm doing compressions on the CPR mannequin and I call out " activate the EMH “ , and had a few of the students stare at me , then I said “ Activate the ECH “ . A co-worker who knew what I was talking about said to the students “ well, go activate alarm and bring us the AED , you're wasting time , don't you understand the acronyms? “ - the students were too nervous of failing to admit that they didn't understand those acronyms. We all had a good laugh afterwards. And if by chance the actors do come here to read the comments , I'd like to say to Robert - I saw The Howling in the theatre when I was a child and , I expect that you've heard all of this before , but your performance , your portrayal of Eddie was terrifying. I feel that The Howling is absolutely the best werewolf film I've ever seen , the creatures are the most realistic and terrifying of any werewolf film , and the transformation scene was amazing. Real special effects , none of this CGI as they do today . I've seen the cast interviews and it was fascinating to learn and see the behind the scenes footage of how that was made. I was genuinely frightened ( that's a good thing because I love realistic films ) for months after seeing that. Also , for the hosts of the podcast , thank you for doing this. Personally I thought Enterprise was a great programme and have seen the entire series a few times. The episode “ Shuttlepod One “ was one of my favourites , it was a great storyline with great dramatic acting , well done. The other episode with you two on Risa being lured into the wine cellar by two gorgeous women who turned out to be shape shifting aliens , then being robbed and having your clothes stolen was a laugh, that must have been quite a story to explain to the captain, and for your officer logs . It was refreshing to see something new , well something “ before “ the original series and next generation - to see the beginning of Starfleet, the Federation , and the earlier, less advanced ships . It would have been ( and will be in the future ) quite a challenge to live aboard a space craft with new technologies , primitive ships and seeing the progress of science and exploration. True it would be nice to have a Galaxy or Sovereign class ship , but I liked the simplicity of the NX class , and it would have been great to see more seasons and advances . To comment on something that was mentioned in an earlier podcast, about Connor going for a colonoscopy - It would have been a great candid camera episode if he were in the exam room , talking to the doctor , then suddenly hearing the snap of rubber gloves , then a familiar voice and turning around to see John Billingsley , in full Phlox costume and seeing that huge Phlox grin and him saying something about “ Optimism” . Enterprise was cancelled and it should have lasted several more seasons, at least until the Constitution Enterprise was either built , or in the plans. The crew would have been in their late years by then . Great podcast and I look forward to what's in store.
I do believe, what landed him the part of EMH, was whether knowingly or not, he channeled "Bones" McCoy with the "I'm a doctor, not a nightlight". That is the exact energy needed for EMH and his "rbf" face sold it.
Growing up my Dad loved Opera and would play it around the house and sing it himself. He said when I was a little boy I was singing La donna è mobile in the bathtub. He never forgot that.
What makes this show so fantastic is how chill it is. The juxtaposition of Mr Trinneer's and Mr Keating's hosting style creates a fantastic balance. Everyone's having a great time making the show and I have a great time watching it. Amazing episode! Cheers!
Excellent interview as always, everyone!! I like Mr. Picardo's storytelling style, complete with voices, accents, impromptu singing, and how he practically roasts his EMH character. His read on the Holographic Doctor makes him sound quite a lot like Major Winchester from M*A*S*H, another erudite "fancy pants" physician possessed of an inexhaustible vocabulary and a flair for hyperbole, who also spent much of his tenure completely at the mercy of his less-than-favorable surroundings, all of which made both characters great fun to watch in action. I also enjoyed learning that Mr. Picardo drew some from Jonathan Harris' scheming, melodramatic portrayal of Doctor Smith on "Lost in Space", another sci-fi show I grew up loving. My only bone of contention with this episode is that when Mr. Picardo goes to demonstrate the EMH's first ever on-air "smile", an editing choice to cut away from his demonstration meant we only got to see your reactions. After he said, "he goes like THIS...", I was left saying, "Wait, he goes like WHAT?" I particularly love the story he told elsewhere about how he talked his way onto "Star Trek: First Contact" simply by asking "clarification" questions. I enjoyed his turn as everybody's mentor in the NCIS 3-show crossover, and I'm looking forward to either watching or re-watching some of his other work as well, particularly his life-imitating-art turn on "Schooled". Great stuff!!
I really felt for Robert when he spoke about alternating accents. I used to drive taxis and would often greet my passengers with whatever accent (fake, of course, though hopefully to an acceptable standard) tickled my whimsy that night. This went on for years with no harm done, until one night I tried my German accent. One can imagine my shock and terror when my passengers climbed into the taxi, talking among themselves, using much better versions of the accent I had just used. I knew my only option was to come clean about the whole thing, and thankfully, despite their reputation, they saw the humour in the situation and laughed along with me.
THANK YOU SHUTTLE POD SHOW ALL THE BACKSTAGE CREW AND ALL OTHER CREW OF SHUTTLE POD SHOW FOR MAKING EVERY SHUTTLE POD SHOW POSSIBLE FOR WITHOUT YOU THE CREW OF SHUTTLE POD SHOW THERE IS NO SHUTTLE POD SHOW AT ALL AND THANK YOU ALL THE HOST OF SHUTTLE POD SHOW THANK YOU DOMINIC KEATING ERICA LA ROSE AND CONNOR TRINNER THANK YOU SO MUCH ALL THE HARDWORKING CREW FOR MAKING EVERY SINGLE SHUTTLE POD SHOW POSSIBLE I LOVE SHUTTLE POD SHOW I TRULY APPRECIATE SHUTTLE POD SHOW FROM BOTTOM OF MY HEART ❤
It's quite emotional watching this channel, as you get really attached to some of these characters after so many years watching these shows and it makes you sad when the shows end and you know you will never see them again.
I think it is common for people in general to reflect back on their lives now and then and question what they are doing partly to find a meaning for it all. I think actors, and entertainers in general, are double blessed because they are able to leave such an incredible gift of themselves through their medium for all posterity. I remember watching Star Trek: Enterprise during its original run but at the time I wasn't able to catch every episode. After "lurking" on the Shuttlepod Show, I began to "wax nostalgic" and started rewatching all the episodes, in order, beginning with Season One. I had forgotten what an incredible show it was. It is so apparent how much heart and soul everyone put into the production and for that, I deeply thank you all! Live long and prosper!
I got through 26 mins and had to stop to say I love this type of guest! An actors, actor as you said at the top. I’m not in the field, but I find creative types like this bring unique perspectives and always has you all at your best. Really enjoying it so far! Thank you ❤
Wow what a wonderful episode. Picardo is an exceptional actor. I truly enjoy his work and it was excellent to see him on the show. A brilliant performer!
Thank you very much Shuttlepod1! It is such a treat to see all of you guys in person, i loved all of your characters in the shows! In a way it is like catching up with old friends. So lovely, thank you so much. #triplivesofc #malcomisnotalone #TheDoctoraintminingdilithium
The first thing I saw Robert Picardo in was... "Inner Space" as The Cowboy. 😄 Voyager came along several years later but it took some time for me to connect the dots. Picardo did such a great job as the EMH on Voyager; he certainly became my favourite character on the show. Another great chat. - Thanks!
Mr. Picardo had a guest starring role in "Justified" that was amazing. I don't recall the episode, but there is such a well acted twist at the end of the episode. His line delivery of "I hated my father" is a cathartic tour de force.
I met and got an autograph from Mr. Picardo back in the day, and he was one of the nicest, funniest person i have met. Class Act. Sang the song "What's in a Name" and made everyone laugh.
I met mr. Picardo back in '99 in Rotterdam. A really nice guy, willing to take all the time he was allowed to with a couple of geeks freaking out over his 7of9 comments he gave earlier in a speech! Good to see he never lost his charm ;)
Just discovered this channel today June 22, 2023 ♥️ my fav episode of Enterprise was Shuttle pod one, it had a great story, great dialogues with minimal cost I guess.
I first became aware of Robert Picardo because of Voyager. I then realize that I have seen him in SO many things growing up. He is so great. The most recent thing I have seen him in was "Confess, Fletch". I LOVE the original Fletch films and was so happy that the new one lives up to the originals and was pleasantly surprised when he shows up.
I remember that too. I remember discovering how intelligent he was on that show going up against Will Weaton and LeVar Burton towards the end. It was so close and could have easily been Robert Picardo as the winner on that episode.
I can see how this episode goes for over 2 hours, Robert is absolutely enthralling. He is funny, articulate and just plain interesting to listen to. Your guests are just brilliant and interesting, well done to all of you and young Dom you are getting better at listening but I seriously love your enthusiasm, keep it up. Ed from South Australia 🇦🇺🍷🍷
Excellent episode, guys! Picardo is one amazing man. Great questions and lots of laughs. Plus I never knew of his relationship with the Planetary Society. Loved it.
I did meet Robert Picardo a few years ago when I was working in Philadelphia and then enter the elevator at my hotel and Robert Picardo is in the elevator, with his assistant. I said are you who I think you are? He said something like well if you think that then I must be.. they both had a lot of bags with them and his assistant asked me if I could press the elevator buttons for their floors. and he just said don’t bother the poor man. I got to have a chat with him for a few minutes and he said he was doing the play Gemini in Philadelphia for the second or third time I think I said well I’m a big fan of Star Trek I have seen every episode of every one of the shows. Said how wonderful he was playing the doctor. And I also mentioned oh by the way the cowboy in Innerspace. Was so good! Anyway, he was very gracious and I bumped into one more time, and then we just said hi to each other. A lesser known Joe Dante movie is called Matinee Robert plays the theater manager also with John Goodman. It’s wonderful.
Robert Picardo is such a revelation. Most (if not all) the Star Trek actors (casts and guests) of whatever series, are each wonderful gifted revelations. And each is interesting. They have usually led such interesting lives. When I first learned about the Shuttlepod show, I thought it would be boring. Actors interviewing actors about acting? Snooze... However, as I got into it. An episode finishes and I'm still awake! And I finished the show. Laughed at the jokes (yup, usually got it). Understood the references and related to most of the experiences. This was another one. Though I did enjoy the character of the holographic EMH and the acting chops of Robert Picardo. I luv that term of his "resting bitch face" LOL! His kids called it. Great! Thanks for this.🖖
Great interview. Dom did great on his research and recalled a lot of detail. 😂 I grew up just outside of the city so I would see the commercials for the Broadway shows. I'm sure I saw them for Gemini and Tribute, but my first " who is this guy?" Moment was Innerspace as " The Cowboy". I hadn't realized his prosthetic work in The Howling and Legend ( I think it is him that screams "Foul tasting Fairy!" In the latter). I was intrigued that he was interested in playing Neelix and wearing all that make up. ❤ Great stuff folks.
I've gotta say I'm liking Conners' beard. Looks good on him. Also, The Docter was one of my favorite Star Trek characters throughout all the different series. Only could've been played by Mr. Picardo.
I really enjoy Dominic. He asks great questions, and he seems to be a very sweet person who others like. I am very close to purchasing this via their Patreon platform (sorry I have not done so, forgive me).
I think its cultural. Irish and English people talk on top of each other and jump in and put with jokes and slaggings. It's not really interrupting when it's a back and forth the way this is. I find the format great very much like a gang of friends having the chats
@rmkf1982 It really isnt. I'm English and I find it incredibly rude, and I have no idea why people keep saying this. I have experienced egotists who just can't wait to talk, but they are not popular. It is not common, and it's a human trait in some people, and there are certainly lots of loud mouthed Americans that love the sound of their own voice (but again I'm not saying all or most). There is nothing British about it, and I find it highly annoying.
Just stumbled onto this through my main page. Good to see you guys, plus Dominic has the bonus of being from my home town and my favourite Enterprise character - along with Connor of course. 🙂 Robert Picardo's Doctor is what I like to call my favourite American Doctor, only beaten by the actors who played The Doctor in Doctor Who. If there was ever some multiverse version of Doctor Who, he'd be a great choice for the role.
Love TSS! Interesting, funny, and Erica is 😍! Having another run through of your series, starting with E1, Broken Bow… Another excellent show in the series of excellent shows that is Star Trek…thank you all.
