the only addition as they are now would be a scout unit, theyre able to climb but theyre not overly fast, not armored, nada, their best purpose is mountain range scout recon, perhaps sniper support thats it

@@draconicisha the main point is that they are dirt cheap (like.. litteraly) and can be modified easily.

Mechs in general have great military potential especially when it comes to things like logistical support. They'd also be great for getting through swamps and bogs plus mountainous terrain depending on the technology level of it. Japanese have made some mechs that look like they're straight out of James Camerons Avatar and the Battletech universe.

Coming back to this again: Imagine how well and quickly these could carry Javelins or Stingers to unexpected ambush positions, piggyback troops or supplies over rough terrain, etc. Hell, just think about changing the tires on an LAV.

There's a lot of detail in this series that sells its "realistic war aproach". Also it seemed the Abrams were ambushed from all sides from a considerable force of highly mobile mechanized infantry who had enough explosives to take out tanks. Those points and the fact that this seems to be the 1st battle of modern developed forces vs cheap and efficient mechs, the ambushers have most of the advantages as they probably already know how tanks fight, as compared to the Americans who are fighting these for the 1st time. I will agree we should've seen more ambushers casualties (though we do see them, just more would've been nice). This was more or less an example of when warfare started to change. Like that moment in ww1 where they found out the hard way that traditional calvary charges were not gonna cut it in modern war.

Hey man, I totally hear you, I’d like to say though that it’s not unheard of for tanks to move to support positions on their own or with less company. Also, I agree with the commander sending LAV’s into the water being pretty dumb, the scene mostly works because of that support failure (/idiot order that could happen). When I think of this whole scene happening in the scope of say five minutes some of it may be a stretch but I don’t think all of it is if you can accept a stupid order as a realistic possibility (one that hopefully wouldn’t happen) and also then consider the armored units moving autonomously. Going back a moment, it’s not unheard of to have tanks move/cut through wide swaths of land to get places, in terms of Angola and Cabinda and the lay out it’s not as unrealistic a notion as you may think, particularly with few obstacles exempting that river. I don’t know what accompanying support/engineering size/amounts of units would be for the undetermined number of tanks but your certainly right they ideally/likely wouldn’t have been as passive/absent as they were. The only greatly unrealistic thing in and of itself in this whole scene to me is the idea (assuming this hasn’t been solved) that any vehicle would tread anywhere in Angola/Cabinda at all off road, the place is laid with an incredible amount of landmines, so much so it’s decimated wildlife populations and is nearly incalculable in density and spread (alternatively, if we assume the mine problem has been addressed this point becomes moot but if not, it’s hella risky depending on who mined it and when, this includes a high amount soviet anti-tank mines that have a special heat [and I believe lead mechanism] that has a high kill ratio against current armor. However if this mining situation wasn’t solved this tank scene would be totally explained by a. An overconfidence send the armor attitude “we’re fucking indestructible” and b. No way Jose you have a lot of support). Now we can go back and forth on this hypothetical but that’s moot because the whole things from a pretty creative anime but I wanted to take a moment and say, it’s a stretch but I don’t believe it’s that much of a stretch. It also makes sense that the Angolans would retrofit their available anti tank mines. Overall though I appreciate your comment I think it’s hella informative, I’m here mostly adding to the discussion, please feel free reply and I hope that my reply adds some more interesting variables to the discussion. Unfortunately much of this info was only implicitly covered in the anime, kudos to the directors for doing their research. I would very much enjoy knowing how you feel this affects the combat feasibility of the scene. Btw, I’m on my phone too so bear with me.

ikr? I can see them work in this shown like ambush style attack but against a prepared tank column that is prepared for combat and knows what to expect, no chance. The exoskelleton drivers arent even armored, they are just free on the back of it.

HELLL YEAH! an armor unit like th us forces had could hold off those things until they ran out of ammo. it would be a masacre.... for the mechs.

One thing I find interesting is the idea on how useful mechs would be on the battlefield. In a lot of ways they're just suped up infantry. The biggest force multipliers out there are communications and situational awareness tech, Mechs don't really impact those. Don't get me wrong mechs would be a force multiplier for sure, but I don't see them significantly changing the way battles are fought.

@@LMGunslinger agreed, even the armored ones shown latter on are taken down by .50 cals and only seem to carry slightly heavier weapons (in terms of anti tank firepower). essentially they would function like Humvees do in the US military. other than that though. What i could see them being great for though is supporting airborne forces. judging from the first video, it apears you can cram 2-3 of them in the same space taken up by one humvee for (possibly)similar weight .

@@flapjack6495 There's alot to unpack so I'll try to keep it short and sweet. 1) The Lav-25 is a recon vehicle. While it can fight with the 25mm Bushmaster, that's not it's job. It's job is to scout and relay information to other assets. It never would have left its position to engage the mechs. If it absolutely had to fight it could do it from a reasonable range with the optics it has. They wouldn't have jumped into the water. They would've seen the bridge get blown up and seen the mechs climbing on it. No self respecting commander would order his vehicle into the water. Instead, they would have sent information up to other assets like fast air or rotors. Trust me, we never have support far behind. Infantry would actually have been on those bridge laying boats. They'd be contributing to the fight as well. 2) The tanks. When it comes to being able to actually engage targets, we can do it at far ranges day and night. The FCS on the Abrams would easily be able to lead and engage the mechs. In the open and with a whole damn platoon? There'd be so much goddamn coax and anti personnel fire. Would you want to charge tanks in the open with nothing but swim trunks on an open top mech? Those mechs were not moving fast enough. As for the times they hopped on tanks. Other tanks would've done a manuever we call "Scratching your wingman's back." That means another tank would swing its gun onto you and use coax to sweep infantry off. I'm doing this on phone so it's a little difficult, but that's about the jist of it. The engagement made the Abrams look like an armored storm trooper. If there's a platoon of tanks somewhere you can be damned sure they're looking for a fight. Nobody would be taking those mechs for granted.

@@flapjack6495 The Abrams is a tough SOB, but it has weaknesses the same as any normal contemporary NATO tank. The side armor is alright, but it's not as good as the front. What makes it potent is the FCS and ergonomics. That is, crew survivability and other nuances that make operating it relatively easy with good training. Honestly, this was a poor argument for why the mechs were good. On flat open terrain this engagement should've gone to the tanks. Yeah they may have lost whatever was on the bridge, but once everyone was rallied and aware of what was going on? No, those mechs would be fucked. The moment the net opened up with "We re being attacked! They're using the bipedal walkers on us!" Every supporting asset would be barreling down on that position. If the engagement had been in a dense city or somewhere really built up? Okay fine. This scene was just mech wank, plain and simple. There have been plenty of well written pieces on why mechs aren't the end all be all and why tanks will always have a place on the battlefield.

やま 回帰も何も中東紛争で自爆トラックは数年前から今日まで元気に行われてますよ。(神風とイスラムの自爆特攻を一緒にするなと言われそうですが人が死ぬまで操作するという本質は同じですから) 重要なのは神風は操縦するパイロット1人の育成に大金と時間にして5年という歳月が掛かるのに対して自爆トラックやこの動画内の攻撃要員は大した訓練をせずとも操縦方法さえ分かっていれば出来る点。飛行機と違って車:動画内兵器を動かせる人間なら訓練要らずですから金もかかりません、コスパ最強です。飛行機の操縦と陸上兵器の操縦では難易度が高いのはどちらかと言うのは明白ですから。折角の玄人を無駄死させる神風よりも効率は遥かにいいです。 まぁ末期の神風は訓練もろくに受けてない癖に難しい航空機での特攻だった為に成功のせの字も無かったですけどね。

Given maybe the first shot he would have fire cannon as thats what he has selected. But after first shot they would have had tank commander called switch and he'd be switched.

It makes sense because of the fact the suits are supposed to augment your physical abilities so from an animation stand point lowering the frame rate of people makes the mechs seem more capable kinda like how into the spider verse lowers miles frame rate when they run from the lab until peter shows him how to web swing and the animation framrate for miles starts to mach that of peters

Rather questionable metrics if this qualifies as a "Very good story". As far as I can tell, from what I've seen, this show has nothing but setup. You get a black ops mission at the first episode then it's a bunch of prequels and world building for the rest. What does the series wanna do with it? Fuck if I know. The show just walked away after that. I imagine the show didn't have the budget to make a payoff because this thing spends a lot of its animation on firefights. Animating those atop of the detail being consistent costs a lot of cash. Most likely this is just to test the waters and YT cheaped out.

Idk about that... They are moving really fast, snipers are used on stationary targets. However a Mech could be fitted with something that can fast track those guys. Also, 20 marines could also get a quick shot. But i dont think whoever is using those exoframes would just present himself like a good target. It would be guerrilla warfare like this. And you try to hit a guy going 70km/h in a suit like that rushing to bash your skull. Without military training they would just freeze. I would be amazed if a soldier would be able to hit something in a situation like this. But yea, they are quite exposed. Shrapnel would be a better use to kill the drivers.

@@Melanrick a sniper doesn't have to aim accurately, a sniper could have predicted the movements and aim where the targets are moving towards to.

@@nushia7192 Again, at that speed he isn't going to hit shit. Especially if he is in movement too. And that is not the way precision shooting works. If it was a moving target at maybe 12km/h at a close distance in a straight line, then sure. But at 60km/h in a chaotic battle with the target shooting back, it ain't going to happen.

@@tochztochz8002 , first of all, calling a warthog will take some time and second of all the attack was so sudden that they didn't have the time and third just the beginning of anime episode explain the skepticism of this exo-frame at combat to the point making them underestimating their capabilities which lead to there demise.

I mean yeah, if you used them like that, but real combat isn't very easy to present in a cinematic way. The battlefield is so dangerous that it's very empty, and most people don't like to depict indirect fire to much. In real life, the guerrillas would do the bridge attack, and then use the presence of the robots as farm machines to maneuever on the surviving marine armour from concealment and to rapidly bring heavy weapons into the fight. They'd probably lose more than they killed, because the marines would rapidly bring in their own indirect fire assets, and the whole charge the tanks thing wouldn't work due to the hit scan nature of modern tank weapons. However in general, the existence of super fast far machinary that can move like a human body would be a huge advantage to guerrillas.

Yeah, I was wondering why none of the LAVs didn't stay behind and provide covering overwatch and NO TANK FIRED COAXIALS. It could have been more plausible if the mechs had some ad hoc armour just to survive being pelted by their M240's and if possible, Ma Deuce.

Because otherwise mechs would be slaughtered badly by MBT.

Ikr! At least give a plausible explanatory that make those mechs different from the MBT. Examples: The mechs are fitted with energy shield which disintegrates all incoming shells, projectiles & missiles. Good enough to render every modern war machines completely useless against the mechs.

From distance of 200-400m this mechas would be to easy target for so big fire power like 6 m.guns and 3 guns shooting HE amo. Now USArmy will be have even more effective HE amo which u can program before shot. All of that telling me that this mechas would be easy targets in open space.

@@GeahkBurchill LOL, u that object moving with spread around 50km/h and most on straight line like they did, is so difficult to hit? They have no cover, no armour ect. Better check how looked desert storm fights between tanks and how fast western tanks were destroyed T-72. From this distance 200-400m it's impossible not to hit at least few of this mechas. U live in fantasy world if u think that so slow target won't be hired from that distance. HE ammo don't even need to hit. Shock wave and shrapnels will do the job for people who have 0 protection. U want to try? Stand 5 meters from explosives and make it explode. But before that make last will. This scenario is totally unrealistic and u won't convince me it's true and realistic. Insurgents fight in Urbana area and not head to head with tanks LOL. So stupid example.

@@zaqwerty22 bullets are small. Even tank shells are small. The single operators on EXOframes are small, and everyone is in motion on bumpy terrain. Apply the Inverse square law to all projectiles and you’ll quickly see why in a real battle every hit is a practical miracle. Even with explosives and shrapnel. Actual battlefield statistics are abysmal. But I’m done talking to you. Go to war and find out, kiddo.

It is suspense of belief. All shows has some measure of it. If you can't suspend belief it becomes laughable.

@@横田雅美-v9c いや、返って逆じゃないか？軍事費削減って言われてる中で高価な兵器や人材が壊れ殺され、新しく兵器や人材を購入する集める理由ができて、軍自体は被害大きいだろうけれど、軍事メーカーは新しく買ってくれるから、ある意味金の動きが活発になって経済良くなると思う。ゲリラは安くて効果的なモノがあり戦える、軍隊は戦う敵ができたから世論にもちゃんとした理由で軍事費を上げられる。メーカーは買ってくれる相手ができて、資本が増える。

こんなやり取り久々に見た気がするw このアニメの存在価値を感じれたような気がして嬉しい😆 おっさんくさいアニメも時代関係なく必要だよね

例えるならモンゴルの騎馬弓兵のような。異次元の機動力で他の兵科より明らかに強いけど万能ではない感じ。 大抵のロボットアニメだとこの辺の力関係のまま話が作られますけど、この作品はそこからの変遷を見せてくれる。 1話の年代まで進むと他の兵器が対応出来てきて、順当に強化歩兵的な立ち位置に落ち着くんでしょうが、そこまでの試行錯誤は見ていて絶対楽しいに違いない。

@@puchimame でもこの先買うのがエグゾフレームだからなぁ。人間が作れない技術のものを金銭ではないもので売り買いするから人間だけで研究と売買できるのは戦車でいう砲塔と装甲のみ。ってのがネックだと思う。

Actually mechs have much less potential for carrying heavy weaponry, being more manouverable or carrying heavier armour than tanks because of how much more efficient energywise tracks are.

@trueblueprussian 23 well, I haven't even mentioned what happens when a tank or a mech hits a landmine, the tank stops, looses a track and has the damage associated to the explosion. The mech falls from all the height you wanted it to be, transforming anyone inside in orange juice
