Awesome. I had a Chief with an O235 at our cottage and miss it very much. It was a fun airplane ride

Excellent series of videos about this trip! Good of you to explain glassy water, sailing, and demo a circular step take-off.

I enjoyed your video. Well done and nice relaxing music not a loud ac/dc tune etc. I have to admit I have a personal interest from my aviation past with the '46 Aeronca Chief. This is a great experience for you ! Years ago I worked at a flight school and was only one of many instructors with tail-wheel experience. C-170, C-180, Citabria 7GCBC etc. Anyway, a young man came in one day from Nelson BC and had just bought himself a '46 Aeronca Chief and was looking for a taildragger instructor so next thing I knew I was in the right seat of this little aircraft with him. I was amazed at how much I enjoyed the tiny machine and its performance. 65 horsepower if my memory serves me right. It was great ! One day a feeder airline pilot was at our field that came in each day and he wanted to fly it with me so the owner let us go up. He flew Beech 99's and Navajo's. He was terrible at landing the little Aeronca. It was fun and I was able to tease him for months after about how lousy a pilot he was in the little Aeronca. I love the control yokes in those machines. Lovely.

Thanks Norm, great story! I’m an airline pilot myself (fly 767’s) but I do like to keep my hands and feet alive by flying small airplanes when I can! You might like the dash-8 flying video I made last winter on my youtube channel. Take care!

Hey Sam, do you recall the empty weight of this Chief? Looking at an electric start O-200 powered one right now that seems very heavy and hoping to compare your experience with this one. Thanks.

Great video! Love the small backcountry low and slow float flying. What engine was in the Chief? Seems well equipped for a Chief.

It was a cessna 150 engine, 100hp!

hmmm.. no vertical stabilizers on the horizontal (rear) stabilizers.. I thought they were mandatory on float planes.. great videos tho'... thanks for sharing...

Not mandatory, only if needed. This one has an added ventral fin below the rudder
