barry i’d highly recommend softening the hairs extremely well with a hot towel or even after a hot shower. i’m sure the few gentlemen on reddit who claim to use this technique go through the whole routine & never try it on stubble more than 10-24 hours old. hair grows all directions that’s why we shave in 3 different directions I can’t imagine ever having a bbs with a single pass

I was going to break out my towel steamer and use it for this one. But not everyone has one. But I could have just used hot water from the tap. I will use my steamer on the next 1PAG for sure. Great information sir!

@@ATexanShavesI used to do hot hotel or shower /exfoliate & hot towel after. Once I switched to face lather I found non of that was necessary or made any noticeable difference. The pre shave and face lather you did here is plenty sufficient to soften/lift the hairs and soften and ready the skin. I can manage a 2 pass bbs with a Parker semi slant if I face stretch hard. No way 1 pass is enough for me. I suppose these 1-2 pass shaves are definitely more dfs/look decent style of shaving. Super later for work but look like hell. Ok sure I get it. 1 pass is better than none. 😂

@Stubblemeetssteel I agree. If I was only going to do 1 pass, it would be with the grain to just get a smooth, decent look.

@@Stubblemeetssteel I agree, I think it’s more of a “better than nothing” scenario. I’m going to try this Barry & see how I go thanks for the idea. I have 2 days of stubble so i’ll use a towel soaked in hot water before & really soften everything up as well as my menthol cube 2.0

I often do one pass shaves on nights I’m on duty. I’ll use a more aggressive razor (R41) and a Feather blade. Glad you’re enjoying Draconis Luna! Thank you for your support!

Hello Bary, I could imagine a one pass across the grain shaves works fine for daily shavers (shorter stubbles). The beard hair grows 0.6-0.8mm in a day. Fun fact: The distance between the earth and the moon increases 0.1mm per day, the thickness of a razor blade. If you stack razor blades one each day on top of each other, you are recording this progress. Have a nice and pleasant week.

1PAG in the books! Thanks for sacrificing your comfort and face for science 🤓! I think it's only fair that I try it as well, and you've convinced me to try it myself, I'm going all in with a Rockwell 6C, plate 6 and a feather, go big or go home. But I'm too chicken 🐔 to try on more than 2 days growth 🤣, I'll report back with my details. The way you did it I think is best, because I've read some guys do it to save time, and yes most seem to do it on lighter growth, but I was surprised that it's not RARE, there were several who actually who just do 1PAG. Obviously hair/skin type can make a difference. Also picking a sharp blade with an efficient razor was good option, also not choosing to do more clean up was smart because that's the idea of 1PAG, a quick shave etc. If you try it again I'd like to see you try with an aggressive razor, or maybe an aggressive SE or AC razor 🤓.

Well you are reading my mind on what razor to try next! I was going to go with an AC razor. Thank you for the idea! And please do not do this unless you just absolutely want to and you do not have sensitive skin. i do not recommend 1PAG at all.

I think I can handle ATG on the cheeks. The neck though, I felt that, dude. Hey, since we’re doing this for science, as long as there’s no danger, no one gets hurt or offended, ever try shaving your mustache off……dry? 😅 Just kidding, don’t even consider it. Tardiff did it and it looked like the worst shave pain ever.😢😅

Bary, I love that Tobin is on the wall behind you😊 The first thing that came to mind for me is why goes Against if you can only do one pass for whatever reason? I would think WIth The Grain would yield a better result...at least more comfortable. Everyone's facial hair is different but I imagine the majority would choose WTG as opposed to ATG if it were only one pass. Maybe you could poll the viewers at midweek this week? Oh I agree. If I only had time for 1 pass I would WTG all day. But there are a group of people that swear by the 1PAG and that was the basis of this experiment. Good eye on the Tobin pic!

One suggestion for "Shaving for Science" would be to just try and shave only with the PAA Cube! 😅 Some say that it produces a very nice lather on each own and you maybe could shave just with that!

As for 1PAG, I've only tried it like a couple of times in these 4 years I've been wet shaving but yeah, it's risky business, so it depends 😂

I do have that down to try. I know many have said it works great, and there are a couple videos already out there about shaving with just the cube. When I shower shave, I usually see how much lather I can get from the cube when i am washing my face and head preparing for a shave. It makes TONS! Thanks always!

I honestly would just do a with or across just to achieve a clean look if I had to do a quick shave. But 1PAG is still to be researched. Need to see if i can actually get a close shave. I am not expecting BBS, but I think I can find something acceptable.

Enjoy this video and the "For Science" concept. Don't remember ever trying a 1PAG shave, I did try some 1WTG shaves but there was lots of stubble left, so for a quick shave I like to do a 2 pass (instead of my normal slow 3 pass) with one XTG and one ATG, this clears the beard most effectively for me (a DFS) and I would be right to go out or work. I might try a 1PAG but I expect, like your shave, it will turn into sort of 1.5 passes because of the multi-directional nature of my beard, 1PAG might work for some other shavers though. Yeah, I think, for me at least, 1PAG is impossible. But I will give it a few more tries before calling it quits lol.

The CUBE, as a pre-shave, adds slickness and will increase lather production as well. Great question! Thank you for the comment!

Mully, Bary, I’ve been experimenting with just adding vegetable glycerin to my face as a pre shave and it’s been phenomenal results. The cube is basically a glycerin soap. So a little water and a few drops of of glycerin and magic happens. It also help the lather

Believe it or not, I always do a single PAG when I shave. Going with or across the grain I find it not very useful in that my stubble is still well-apparent after these passes.
