I cherish my memory of my visit to Chaar Bagh (Lucknow station), Bada and Chota imambaras, Chowk, the Gomathi river Ameenabad etc. I came in 1971. I am 75 yrs now.

Based on my recent visit to Lucknow, I found that the Galauti kababs from Tunday are the only ones worth trying. However, this applies only to their kababs and tandoori dishes. The curry dishes in Lucknow did not impress me. One common issue with Lucknowi food, which may not suit everyone's taste, is the excessive use of salt. Even Tunday Kababs, although flavorful, had a high salt content compared to others. Dastarkhan's food, in particular, was excessively salty. I observed the same trend in other places I tried as well. This prevalence of salt in Lucknow's cuisine might be a contributing factor to the high number of hospitals and doctors in the city. I would recommend the state government to conduct a survey to investigate the cause of illnesses that people in Lucknow are experiencing. If you're looking for enjoyable vegetarian food, I suggest trying Sardarji ke Masher Whole Bhature near Novelty Cinema in Lal Bagh, along with Sharma's Chai, Bun Maska, and Samosa. Prakash Kulfi had good kesar pista flavor, but the rest were average. Chapanbhog Bengali sweets were also quite good, without being overly sweet. This is just my personal opinion and experience regarding Lucknow. I didn't have the opportunity to try Idris's Biryani, so I can't comment on it, but I found other biryanis in the city to be excessively salty as well.

Old Delhi &, Lachnow tours are really wonderful.... Will surely visit if given a chance to enjoy so many eatables.... We also have many things and pickets in Lahore but r gradually deteriorated and replaced by western foods etc... Original families have changed their trades and forget receipes and eagerness to serve.... Love u and streets of old delhi and Lachnow.... Thanks for given chance atleast to look at those things....

Lucknow Biryani is simply the best. Kolkata biryani has taken a cue from its Lucknow brethren and made its own. When the Nabab of Lucknow, Wazid Ali Shah was exiles to Calcutta by the British, he brought with him the Lucknow biryani. The subtlety of taste and flavor is simply outstanding.

@ Because the region was ruled by many muslim rulers and was home to rich muslim beurocrats of the history (that's why so many nawabs).. But by demography, the city has significant hindu population ..and much earlier, it had already got its name after Lord Ram's brother Lakshman .

@@vatsalchandra781like that of Lucknow kanpur's original name was " kanhapur" then changed to cawnpore by britishers. But, I have read a book in my school library that earlier UP's capital was going to be made kanpur but due to more Muslims leaders living in Lucknow and to avoid riots, it was changed to Lucknow. And that's also a big reason why I hate Muslims.
