I work in a NH as a dietary supervisor and these residents be ruthless sometimes lol. We just had a big meeting on residents rights, because one of our residents punched a cna they sent him out to be evaluated but was brought back in no more than 30 minutes. So that showed him and all the other residents that its ok and they can pretty much do as they please. So what about our rights a health care workers? Are we not supposed to have the right to a safe and abuse free work place?!! It absolutely kills me about resident rights, I get that they have rights but so do we!!
I work in mental health and I can validate this happens. Nurses get assaulted on the ward by patients a lot.. instead of nurses making complaints, they're expected to sit with the patient and ask "what could I have done better to avoid what happened?" 😂 It's like battered wife syndrome
I work in vet med in various roles and I completely relate to the abuse human nurses and CNAs get. It’s horrible because we are just here to help and people take out their issues on us 💔
I worked as a vet assistant for 10 years, and they just treated us like we were less than. I was essentially a tech but WA requires schooling for the title… *eyeroll* learning on the job taught me WAY more than I learned in school. I went to school for massage therapy, which funny enough gave me my basis of knowledge, plus some!
I have a microbully. 3 different vets, the vet was a ass hole, hated on bully breeds. But the assistant and tech were sooo nice, kind, played with him, gave him attention. The vets just listened to his heart that's it. Gave him no attention. Didn't pet him nothing. Just talked shit about how horrible people are that get this breed. And how wrong it is to breed them.
@@christinec2718 ok, wtf is a micro bully? That might be why he was taking crap, people are creating smaller versions of dog breeds to make money. Breeding is too better the breed, to continue good genetics. If you’re breeding something to make the breed smaller, generally you’re taking the sickly and breeding with the sickly. My guess is, you took it as a personal attack instead of the doctor expressing their concern for the health of the breed.
I also work in vet med and let me just say, I think client services get so much abuse. They’re treated like less than second class citizens by both clients and back staff. It’s like a crap sandwich and they’re smack in the middle. Often overlooked.
Another great episode. And the toxic ways of people needs to stop. Cause Nurses and other health care workers are humans and have feelings and hearts of gold. And do a lot. Put up with a lot. God Bless 🙏🏽 I hope one day soon. It will change for the better
i’ve got bipolar 1 with schizophrenic tendencies and comorbid OCD. i’ve never physically harmed someone else, but i’ve still been aggressive and awful at times. i’ve still refused to blame my mental illness even when the person i was aggressive towards tries to excuse me for it.
As a lab person, I have to work alone during public holidays, weekends, afternoon and night shifts (covering the whole hospital). It really took a toll on my physical and mental health. Requested numerous times to add at least 1 more for those shifts but were ignored because for them, adding one more person meaning that they will have to pay extra (note: those working in the afternoon & night shifts will have extra allowances). And for those working on public holidays, we get to claim replacement leaves. So, they would prefer 1 person working instead of 2 . And because of this, even if you are sick, you will have to come to work because no one will be covering those shifts.
I’m so sorry! I had a shift where I was alone over night supporting the entire hospital for almost 2.5 years. I finally left and I realized how sick I was all the time physically, emotionally and mentally because of that position. I developed chronic bronchitis with pneumonia and had to stay home several times to which my company replied with write ups and “meets”. Yet they’d never hire any support no matter what because they couldn’t justify another wage over night. lol, what? Needless to say, I ended that job on the spot eventually. I’m happy to say that it’s been about a year and I’ve come a long way in healing but I can very much relate to what you experienced, that must have been just hard. I’m sorry. ❤️
I had the SAME experience with people in Paris/other parts of France!! I even tried to speak French, but that seemed to agitate them more! C’mon, I’m trying!
I worked in medicine from CNA/HHA, QMA, Med Tech Hospice etc.. I was about to start RN school Fall of 2020, but parent got sick and covid hit.. Ive never been so grateful a plan didnt pan out
I don't work in healthcare but I work in education so I can sympathize. I've never been physically assaulted by a student until now (scratches, bruises, and toenail injury). Admin asked how I could've let that happen and that I should've came to them two weeks earlier and what? Just send the kid home and they come back to repeat the same bullsh*t?. Note I was training myself to do the job that people did not help me with and dealing with a lot of bad behavior on a daily basis. When I finally got time to meet with admin they took forever to schedule me to meet them. It pissed me off and it still does that they overlooked the whole situation. The homeroom teacher didn't even notify me which students would be aggressive and violent. That teacher also doesn't follow through with consequences either nor care to do effective classroom management so this is why I'm looking to leave. Admin gave up on training sh*tty teachers and disciplining kids properly so I have no reason to stay and live with that level of chaos. I REFUSE to tolerate disrespect and any form of abuse from others.

As a radtech, this episode is relatable as ever. In my personal experience, whenever I cater to drunk patients I end up being misinterpreted for demanding the help from the relatives because it's our job to take care of them . Yes sure but with 1 resident doc, 1 nurse, 1 nursing aide and 1 radtech on duty and the patients are picky, my goodness, you'll definitely say goodbye to this job. I work on a private hospital but that doesn't mean it's easy. Sometimes, private hospital gather the most difficult, most judgemental patients you can encounter in a day.
Senior nurses and staff who balk at taking breaks, accuse new staff of having victim mentality or over reacting to how awful things can get- they do not realize just how much the field has changed, they have become blind to abuse and even think it’s admirable to work through breaks, “tough it out” if they’re assaulted (which many are not because they’re no consulting nurses behind a computer) and they view tolerating abuse as a mark of pride and being “a great nurse”. No. Absolutely not. We’re having to deal with a long line of toxicity created by senior staff as well as more audacious and entitled clients and patients than any senior nurse ever had to deal with on 👏 the 👏 daily 👏.
We can have compassion and understanding for people while still holding them accountable for their actions. It literally turned my stomach when you spoke about the company asking “What could you have done differently” about a situation where staff was assaulted. We need to start walking out on harmful corporations and toxic people. We ARE NOT responsible for other people’s triggers and actions, WE ARE responsible for protecting ourselves physically, emotionally and mentally and it’s crazy to me that working in healthcare now means putting your safety and life on the line while your company turns a blind eye. This goes for veterinary medicine, too. I’d rather be bitten, scratched, whatever by an animal because there is never ill-intent and it 100% is on the staff, however, we are human and need the same care from management that they have for their bottom line when it comes to SUPPORT and pay. Medicine whether it’s human or veterinary is tough, tough work and it’s time to change the narrative in terms of what we accept from our management and clients/patients. Where is the line? When do we just stop and say - enough, fuck you, I’m out. I know for many people, the job is their livelihood but those of us who can take a stand should do so more often and louder and harder.
I got punched in the jaw by my delirious patient -- he was very labile and it was his second night with us. I knew he was pulling at his lines and tubes, but I wasn't expecting him to attack me lol. Weeks later his mentation improved but sun downing was still a bit of an issue, and he was assigned to me. I felt uneasy but I went in with a positive attitude but NOPE. As soon as I stepped foot in his room, I got super anxious and nervous -- PTSD IS REALLL OMG. He had sun downed 20min after bedside report! I had my NST stay in the room to calm him down as I went to the med room to get Seroquel and I just broke down. The PTSD and all of my emotions just came pouring out of me
I would be worried for the nurse that was placed as in charge for a whole unit, they would most definitely not back her up if anything happens to a patient because she is not experienced enough yet.

Stop bitching and moaning about the job. This job pays you a shit load of money and lets you buy your cozy houses, cars, vacations to Europe, food out. Quit the Job and let other people who are suffering being Unemployed and hungry take your place and help patients Eagerly and Modestly. They will be Grateful as well.
Tx Childrens is world known and the staff are so amazing and friendly even when i knew i was being needy a few times with baby admitted. I finally asked why there are 6 cops on each floor and they said its to protect staff. I was horrified to hear that a Anyone would ever assault staff as during our admission we were in multiple levels of care and always felt staff was amazing - but it happens enough to hire 100+ officers :(
