Two days ago we learned how you survive a tornado in an RV. It turns out you don't, you instead hope that they veer off course a mile or two before hitting you... which is what happened to us. It seems as though, however, that even though we just missed being destroyed by a Texas tornado, the weather still had some lashing to do.
Between the crazy winds, insane rain, and non-stop thunder and lightning, we had quite a night. I've always wanted to see a real storm up close (we don't get them in California) I just never thought I'd see one from the window of our paper thin walled travel trailer.
All in all though, our trip has been nothing but magical... some good magic and some dark magic, but magical just the same. We've met some amazing people at our camp here in Texas, friends that I believe will remain beyond our Texas stop.
What's the worst storm you've ever been in? Let us know in the comment below.

I live fulltime in an RV and there is nothing you can do but be ready for the worst. Keep the NOAA Weather radio on, watch the weather reports on T.V. or a weather radar app, and keep what you want to save ready to transport when/if you take off for a better shelter....oh, and pray, pray, and pray.

As someone who has lived where severe thunderstorms are the norm. I can tell you right now one of the best ways to get killed by lightening is to 1. have a window open and 2 stand outside holding an umbrella or a metal rod. Stupid, really, really stupid!!

Not a smart idea to be standing outside in the storm while you hold a metal rod attached to an umbrella.

Thank you. That was fantastic to watch. Everything I could want from a vlog. I love the family vibes. And the kids from all ages playing together made me so nostalgic of all the fun I would have when I would go to family friends houses.

hey guys! Oh my goodness I hope you guys know better than that now it's not a time for making a video blog LOL. I lived in Nashville and Tulsa through a couple of bad ones and work right next to an RV park the guy survived but his whole RV picked up and dropped on the door as he was walking out to go get shelter and his TV flew and landed on his arm and it was all bruised 2 seconds more he would have been out the door and the whole RV landed on him and crushed him. then their stories of the ones that get picked up and dropped five miles away and nobody's found. The person that commented about the jet engine is absolutely accurate a train or a jet taking off by then it's too late. Not to mention in Arizona we had small tornadoes per se called microbursts that everyone acts like they're no big deal but they take out many trees and do lots of damage to buildings and power poles don't risk it next time leave your travel trailer and go to a building your bathroom in your travel trailer is by no means what they mean when they say take cover in the bathroom. If you're traveling in tornado country during tornado season even the very beginning or very end of it get yourself one of the weather radios that the alerts go off if there's a tornado in your county. then check the TV when it's red over where you're at you should already be in a safe place not sitting in your trailer making a video. They touchdown bounce over Hills and then touch down and go right through towns you can never tell what they're going to do period I heard too many traumatic stories after the one hit the RV Park in Nashville by the Opryland Hotel they made my stomach so sick I had to move back to the West Coast.

Worst storm I been in, was last winter, in the Berkshires of Western MA. No power for I think two days. Tremendous snow, powerful winds.. had to go through it alone, my roommate (and ride), went to a motel room to ride it out... He came back soon after he found out the power was back on. He later did feel bad for leaving me behind. . So yea. That is my word storm.. that and the Polar Vortex in NC a few years ago.

Hello, I wanted to give campers a better alternative. Tornadoes don't always stay in their predicted paths and can change at anytime. People like me who live in tornado prone areas have another option. Public shelters!! Public shelters are popular with people who don't have a safe place at home. Find out the county you are in and do an Internet search for public shelters in that county. They open up normally when a tornado watch is issued. A tornado watch happens before a tornado warning. A tornado watch means that tornadoes are possibility in the area. A tornado warning is when a tornado has been spotted either by radar, by law enforcement, by trained spotters, and/or by the public and it is on the ground. You want to already be in a shelter when that warning is issued. It is extremely dangerous to be in an RV, any type of vehicle, a mobile home, and/or a structure with a wide span roof such as a gymnasium. Bridge overpasses are dangerous also. Don't try to outrun a tornado. Unless you are a trained spotter, you don't know which was it is going and under what conditions it will change it's direction. Even trained tornado spotters have been killed when out in the field chasing tornadoes. Cities which have had tornado touchdowns are more apt to have a public shelter. The county list for public shelters will give you information such as are pets allowed, is it handicapped accessible, is it FEMA compliant and other pertinent information. If you are in a site built home, go to the lowest floor away from outside walls, away from windows. Wear hard soled shoes (if your area is hit by a tornado and you walk in a tornado debris area, it can cut up your shoes), a helmet (most deaths are caused by flying objects which hit people in the head) and have a whistle and/or an air horn. First responders are trained to listen for air horns and whistles.

Surviving a tornado in an RV is simple. It's mobile, so get the heck out of the area at the first sign of trouble. Go on a short vacation trip and come back later. If that's not possible, drive into town and park in an alley between two strong buildings. Let those buildings provide protection for your RV. Do not park under an overpass. An overpass will funnel wind through, increasing it's speed and destructive power.

We really like you guys. You guys travel in an RV, we travel in an RV. We think you guys are pretty rad. We should be friends! We are in OK right now, we would love to meet up with you guys if our paths ever cross. We heard about you from mutual traveling friends the Melenas. We can't wait to check out the rest of your videos. They are freaking amazing.

Oh that's awesome! We adore the Melena's. We'd love to meet up! One of our favorite part of this has been meeting cool people. We're heading up to Oregon now, then Washington, then we're heading east. Hope we can meet up sometime!

What RV Park were y'all staying at during your stay in N Texas. We live in this area. I remember that day last year. However y'all should have gone to a safe place. We have survived many tornados and got a lot of damage on our homes. Are y'all still on the road? We would love to meet y'all. We are in RV Park in Sanger.

Uh, nowhere in an RV’s a safe place to be in a severe storm. Bathrooms-only safe in sticks and bricks home. You guys did a good job of not making the kids scared but, take those cute children somewhere safe. NO TRAILER IS SAFE IN A TORNADO. Keep your kids safe. If you wanna watch the storm, so be it. Watch from somewhere safe. Don’t subject your kids to that kind of danger because you feel a need to be different and irreverent-that’s not fair to them.

I thought people used to storms knew how to act while one is around ...nothing to laugh about you guys needs to find a storm cellar....i believe you are completely unconscious of the risk you are putting your family on....just speak to people who had got out of lightening strike....i just can’t believe you are so childish about serious things like storms......specially when you have children!!!!
