"There are good ships and wood ships, ships that sail the sea, but the best ships are friendships, and may they always be,” I thought this was cool and worth a share. It's an old Irish proverb. 🍀
I've never heard that one before. I'm gonna' calligraphize it and (maybe even carve it in wood) and hang it somewhere in the saloon of my sailboat. Thanks!
Nothing like being the first ,to go through.😀 Without that transducer on the sonar Wavey been doing pretty good throwing the lead. and calling out the depth. Shades of Mark Twain! Adventure on.
Even though it was winter and the trees were "naked," it surely is a beautiful area. It was good that you made it through the gap the removal team had opened.
Love it Captain! Fenders is the proper term, not bumpers. You’ll be in yachty Florida soon and you don't want the mega yacht captains to think you're not a proper yachtsman. Keep it up.
I bet that was an amazing feeling, finally beimglet through under the bridge. WooooooHaaaaa !!!!!! I would have been loosingy mind. Kudos to you Brenton for keeping your cool for so long.
I've been planning the loop for about 4 years now. I haven't been able to decide on the boat. I do like the shallow draft on your shanty. Awesome video, keep them coming.
May I be the first to recommend a C Dory. They come from 22-26 ft long currently. Awesome little tanks of a boat with 250 mile range. Used ones sell for around $40,000 (15-20 years old). 4,500 lbs total weight with the trailer and they float in 7-8 inches of water. Anyhoo..... I will get off my soap box now. You may be looking for a 40 footer with bow thrusters for all I know. 😂 We plan to do the loop when our kids get older. Don't ya just love this channel? 😁 Best wishes to ya and God bless. 🙏
Cdorys are pretty much the do anything boat. Tough. Economical. Trailerable. Great lines. If you could find a CD25 for a decent price, you'd have it made
You’ve had an unimaginable experience and seen so many interesting things and places. Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake are a part of my bloodline, lol. My two pictures are from campsites on the Kentucky lake side of LBL. Some great fishing there.
I like it if we were in a hurry we would be on a plane a train or something with rubber tires. I all about slow been fast most of my life I’m reformed.
@@backwatersandbackroads yea when you get a chance to ride the scooter you probably feel like you’re flying. Drift on my friend my beautiful wife of 32 yrs has been watching and dreaming of us doing this trip but I lost her this past week after years of health problems. I’m determined to get back after my boat and finish her dream for her.
Sir, absolutely GO. I planned for years to head out, my son graduated & now my mom requires 24/7 (thank goodness I'm a nurse) DO IT. Figuring out how to get mom on my sailboat..@@MackMoore-q2n
I see nothing but good for Brenton to write a book on his journeys. It would be right up there with Robert Lois Stevenson's journey with a donkey and other classics of journeys and voyages. Brenton's records are a time capsule that should be preserved.
I've been thinking about that, I think it would be something like "Zen and the Art of..." or the lesser read "Lila" from the same author. An adventure that's a vehicle for talking about deeper, more meaningful things and subjects. Does anyone even read anymore? ;) lol. I'm finishing up "Riverman" this evening, so I guess I do
@@backwatersandbackroads In my formative years I was a avid reader of the classics and particularly drawn to Joseph Conrad, master writer of sea stories, painter of word pictures. You have the curiosity and ability to record daily transactions on your travels with companion Beagle, so putting pen to paper is not a lot different to what you already do? Try writing a bit and then ask a friend to read it aloud which is the acid test of any good writing. Each word has to earn it's place in the narrative.
The guy in the wheelhouse is watching the river, the computer navigation, listening to the radio traffic, and generally trying to be a good leader all at the same time. He's worrying about dinner, his family at home, and the crew on the boat. If that guy is an owner, he is worried about everything else on and surrounding the boat and everyone's future. When I am in the wheelhouse, I'm just hanging out. Towboat wife life.
Mornin, or whatever it is when you see this. Just got back to missouri from our winter Fla trip. I've gotten a tad behind on your vids. It's time to binge and catch up. See you on the other side.
hello from Tom n Susie !! we really are excited for you n Wavey ! we loved this video n all your videos yes & Susie watched it twicve :) I love the way you edit things too * so happy you n your fur baby are safe too & bless you both always ! good luck fishing !!
I do love being on the river in late fall when the leaves are falling and floating down the river. Its neat when they are suspended through the water column. I spend a lot of time bass fishing on the Susquehanna River near Harrisburg, PA
Great video! I took my houseboat back to the lake yesterday and took it for a spin with the new center toon. I figured out my range with the new tank. At 6 knots i have a 250 mile range with a 10 gallon reserve.
Each of us “sees” what their soul sees.......I “see” you between 12:42 and 12:48, in the “it’s a brave new world” dedication I see you my friend.......like I saw you in a quick cameo image of your daughter maaaany videos ago......like I caught a glimpse, during a couple of your coffee induced rants, referencing to her I see you
@francotripepi Right ;) I've got a 14 year old son with autism. He loves Disney movies. We use to watch them together to the point I have them all memorized backward and forward. I leave little Easter eggs for him to notice if he watches. That should clear that up ;)
Isaiah 43:2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you; When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.
Cool man. When I was younger, I lived on Kentucky lake. Spent many years there. Hwy 79 crosses Kentucky lake in Tennessee just south of Kentucky. Thats right about where I was. Ive been really looking forward to this. My family is still down there. I havent been able to get back there in years. Could you pointout hwy 79 when you cross under it, please ? Hwy 79 runs east and west, crosses kentucky lake, goes throughland between the lakes, crosses lake barkly. Paris is to the west and Dover is to the east. Fort Donnely is right the also. It would be so cool to se the view from the water.
I have to comment:Sandurz:Try here. Stop. Dark Helmut: What ..am I looking at..when does this happen in the movie? Sandurz:Now. You're looking at now. Everything is happening now. DH:What happened to then? Sandurz: We passed then. Ok, I've gone a bit. Your intro and finale made me reminisce about my fav movies..Oh and Riverman is a great read. Thanks.
You're so funny buddy...I love it ;) nutshell: Mississippi to mouth of Ohio. 50 miles up the Ohio to Paducah. A few more miles to the mouth of the cumberland, which locks into lake Barkley (one of the Kentucky Lakes) down the lakes which turn into the Tenn-Tom waterway, which dumps out in Mobile Bay. East along the Intracoastal waterway to Florida, cut through Florida (don't make me spell it!) then up the Intracoastal waterway on the east coast, up the Hudson to the Erie Canal and Back into the great Lakes. That's one of the "great loops"
I’m now curious about your loop trip 5 years ago. Where can I find those videos? This channel 5 years ago or a different channel? Proverbs Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding, and He will direct your path.
Hi Maggie, love that bible quote. Right to the point. The first trip (The Shanty Boat Beagle Adventure) is on my channel here. 28 episodes ;) I was still learning how to edit.
