Canadians as a people did not rebel against the King we were and some still are, loyal subjects, which I find abhorrent that any one would subjugate them selves to one persons rule because they said that they are a direct descendent of GOD. This is what was meant by the phrase all men are created equal, in other words none of us are direct decadents of a God and therefore have a divine right to rule. All this did was remove the religious aspect of ruling, it hasn't stop people from being ruled or being rulers, it just took divinity out of the equation, which is certainly an improvement. In the US it allowed a separation of church and state. In Canada we just sort of waited the Royals out, but they aren't gone yet, even Barbados just last week stopped using the Royals as head of their state, I guess we are a little slow, must be the cold weather. As to your question how are we any different than Canadians, well I think if you think of the US as a country full mostly teenagers and Canada as mostly full of old men then you would have an answer, teenagers love to rebel and some of them like to fight and if you give them easy access to weapons, well the most recent results speak for them selves. Canadians as I am, have been exposed to compassion, reasonably good education, and, we have manners. Yes Canada still has many things to address, but I'm sure the ratio of people able to think critically as to the uneducated brainwashed is much higher than our Americans Neighbours. Also, we have legalized the use of weed, and Are not basically insane about assault weapons to over compensate for our massive insecurities..

i deft anyone to try and find movies and tv shows that don't feature guns in the ads & posters and the idea that every debate discussion and conflict can not be solved without the use of a weapon ... the glamorization of criminal behavior (the sopranos) and the glorification of violence (the military) are the key drivers of this insanity as well as the despair and neglect of mental health ...

I profoundly disagree with Michael that we Americans are “good people”. How many dead children will have to be piled up before we officially become “bad people”. I think we are already there. Good people would not allow for this kind of thing to go on indefinitely like this.

During the weapons ban that began in 1994, the most notorious shoot out for law enforcement occurred in LA called the North Hollywood Shootout. Two bank robbers illegally acquired rifles, made them automatic and then got into a shootout with the police firing thousands of rounds. Chicago and New York, among others, are well known for having some of the strictest gun laws in the country and at the same time have shockingly high gun murders. These instances taking place when those weapons were not legally allowed to be there.

its so disturbing to hear a member of congress say they are powerless. why do we vote then? I'm not trying to give him a hard time, but I dont recall seeing him go on a "gun reform" tour, every local station and paper, rallies, town halls, ads etc. bringing it up on the floor of congress every now and then is not progress and doesnt show us the american people that our elected officials will fight for us when they obviously dont every single day. I have ZERO hope, even after this episode. like "I'm frustrated with the filibuster" really!? had no idea, never heard him say anything about it. no solutions, just words...

Since certain people in Congress are not willing to budge on any gun legislation to protect innocent children and teenagers in our schools, then how about proposing a bill to put metal detectors, at least one in every school in this country. This should have been included in the build back better bill. After all, billions of dollars are being allocated for different programs in this bill. Is it not more important to protect our children and feel any comfort in knowing that they won't be killed by someone bringing a gun to school.

I wonder if Mr Moore has read Robert F. Kennedy’s new book called The Real Anthony Fauci? The book has nothing to do with guns but a lot to do with public health. In light of what has been going on since March 2020 me thinks it most strange, even sinister that Mr Moore has been so silent on the subject.

Mike, thanks for this podcast. I have two comments to make: the FIRST goes back to when I was in San Francisco at City Lights for a book signing & the year was the aughts. THE writer was a southern woman and her premise was that the 2nd amendment was given to the people in order to allow them to keep the Indian population and the black population under control. IF that be the case-- which I believe it is-- the difference between America and let's say Europe is they had homogeneity in their population while we had heterogeneity from the start due to Europeans bringing slaves with them, to a land populated but yet another race-- the FIRST peoples or American Indian --whose land THEY wanted. I recall reading that George Washington sold land that Indians were still living on & made a lot of money. This correlates with what Sen Murphy's book revealed. My second point was something that came to me while traveling. I met many Europeans & they always said how nice we were. I thanked them and thought how strange it was since we had no safety nets unlike Eutopeans who have many ways in which they care for their people. That is, HOW strange we are so nice considering we have no Safety Net in our country. I pondered this for many years and then it suddenly occurred to me: Oh, yes, I know how we compensate for the fact that we have no safety net. WE have guns and when the shit hits the fan, there is a safety valve-- we can kill. WE can go out and kill birds in the sky or rabbits in the bush or we can kill each other and that's exactly what happens. THAT'S the dark side. BUT I truly think that the light side is-- as we slowly become more like Europe with safety nets otherwise known as socialism tho some idiots call it communism-- we American people will feel more protected and more cared for by their own and maybe there will be less of an urge or need to use a gun to address an injury or to feelings of impotency that a person possesses when their government and their people really don't care about them at all & their form of capitalusm favors the super rich at the expense of the regular folk. And the children merely copy their elders. Monkey see, monkey do.
