You guys are hysterical! Funny episode... Dad's getting a new hairdo while he tries to use the phone... Uncle Scott is bleeding while helping to repair the boat! Love it!

Beaufort NC is a very historic town. Did you get to see Blackbeard (the pirate) house in Beaufort? The shipwreck of his ship is just offshore of the inlet. The N.C. maritime museum is there. Wild horses on the island across from the marina.

We loved the maritime museum but sadly missed Blackbeards house. We also looked for horses the entire time but never saw them. Guess we just have to go back!

Oh yes, I’m very familiar with these waters. Good weather windows and not being on a tight schedule is rather important. Learned that the hard way 😬 Out of all the people I’ve followed that are doing the Great Loop, y’ll are my favorite. Hopefully, by the end of your videos, I will have channeled your energy and positivity Cinda. Shine on!

Awww thank you so much for saying that!!! We've had a few comments from viewers who see my anxiety/worry as negativity. I work hard to be positive, optimistic and joyful but anxiety creeps in at times. I am so glad you are seeing the positivity. Thank you for this incredibly kind comment. You made my day!

@@TheBoomershines I wonder if those people who see negativity have been on a large boat, navigating the Great Loop. I have and can sadly say I do not have as calm a demeanor as you. Your next couple of videos will cover areas where I think I cried for 24 hours straight 😱 You are inspiring! Going forward I am going to aspire to be like you LOL. I need one of those arm bands that say WWCD ( what would Cinda do) instead of WWJD (what would Jesus do) 😂

Oh my goodness! You made my day again!!! You have an excellent point about people seeing negativity. I don't think anyone can fully understand the intensity of the Loop until they do it. I hate that you cried for 24 hours -- but so many Loopers have that experience at one time or another. Me included. I often wonder what percentage of people who start the loop quit before finishing. Anyway, I'd love to send you one of our SeaSHINE stickers if you'd like one. Just DM me your mailing address over on Instagram :). Thanks again for being so kind and cheering us on. We really appreciate it!

LOL Mark's hair. One Christmas my nieces got hair styling kits. I had the longest hair of the guys and probably the only one willing to let them do it. Probably 30+ rubber bands; looked like BamBam from the Flintstones!

Some of the newer boats, which you probably figured out, have a GPS hold function. (Like anchor lock on a trolling motor for fishing boat) And a joystick to move from that position, in and out, rotate etc. And maybe just a captain with years of experience that knows what he/she doing. Money no object, going w one of the new Grand Banks w sky hook to hold position and playstation joystick to go from there. :)
@JJP72095
@JJP72095 2 месяца назад
The current rips at that marina. No gps function helps you there, you need to know what you’re doing, have a plan and move against the current.

Ok no one reads replies of replies. What movie did they film at your house. Watching loop videos and boat videos for last 2 years, so haven't watched many if any, but only on tv. Last theater was one of the Harry Porrer w daughter

Its funny you mention the new Grand Banks with Sky Hook. When we were in St Simons, a brand new Grand Banks pulled up with a young delivery captain who was single handing it. The current in the marina was RIPPING. He pulled up about 4 feet from the dock and then casually stepped away from the helm to set his lines. I stood there watching as the boat mysteriously held its position perfectly against the current and wind. When the captain was ready the boat slid into its slip and he calmly tied his boat up himself. I literally couldn't believe what I had just witnessed so I marched over and asked the captain what sort of dark magic he had just deployed. That is when I learned about Sky Hook and now that is at the top of my next boat list. But I will forever call it Dark Magic not Sky Hook LOL
@TheBoomershines
@TheBoomershines 2 месяца назад
@@JJP72095 See my comment above. We watched Sky Hook aka Dark Magic hold against an insane current in St Simons. It was very impressive. But I also agree that knowing what you are doing, having a plan (and a back up plan), and moving against the current and/or wind are also key.

Just came across your channel, noticed posting "I quit the loop" first. To that Nd the many challenges you will yet face i say, " when the march gets tough, the tough get marching" . Keeping going no matter how rough it gets, one day you will cherish the memories. Quit and you will forever ask "could I have name it, should I have tried harder".

For getting off the dock in that situation, change your line configuration just before leaving so that each line is just a loop around the dock cleats and back to the boat and tied off again. then when you're ready to leave you can do everything from the boat just by releasing the one end of each line and letting it slide around the dock cleat.
@TheBoomershines
@TheBoomershines 2 месяца назад
That is exactly what we did! I called it "lassoing" the lines in the video. I am sure there is a technical name for it but I just always refer to it as setting up a lasso so I can release the loop around the cleat/piling from safely aboard the boat.

You know y’all hated to see y’all’s hired deck hands go. Lol. It looked like they enjoyed boat life and were getting good at docking. Tell Bell, Happy Belated 10th Birthday!!! That marina y’all were at seemed to be a happening place. A lot of nice yachts coming and going. I could kick back and watch them come and go myself.

The yacht watching at that marina was top-notch for sure! Glad to know I am not the only one who enjoys that show. We were super sad to see Uncle Scott and Aunt Jessica leave. We all attended the Chapman School of Seamanship together and have boated together in the past so we make a good cohesive crew.

I grew up along the NC coast in Wrightsville Beach NC. My Dad's step brother was the first building inspector the city of Southport NC ever had. He worked for a housing manufacturer named Jim Walter Homes so the city as it grew needed someone to approve construction and since he knew how the houses were built at the factory they asked him to do it. We would go to Carolina Beach and enjoy the rides of the now closed ocean front amusement park. Just to the right of the green drawbridge was the marina my Dad kept his boat in. We would walk up to the bridge and the bridge tender would let us help him open and close the bridge when the barges would pass thru. Lots of good memories there.

I love your videos and enjoy watching the perils of an everyday family doing the loop. I am very familiar with the area that you were docked and swimming at the dock. One thing that you may want to know now is that there are world class sharks caught within 1/4 mile of where you were docked. I have never heard of anyone being bit in that area but there are some amazing sharks caught in that area every year, I believe drawn in there by the charter boats that are packed in that area.

That Military Terminal at Sunny Point is an amazing facility...and is one of the largest military port facilities in the world. You should look at it on Google Maps, and you can see how the port is laid out with rail lines so that the weapons and ammunition are rolled into underground bunkers still on the rail cars, and then can be rolled right out onto the piers you can see from the water so the material can be loaded onto the ships...most likely with the rail cars going onto the ships along with them. There are multiple huge fields of bunkers with impressive spaces between them all, a railcar marshalling yard, and three massive piers for ships that all have rails on them for moving the container cars onto the ships. WOW! 😎 LOL...and I knew you would be at Mezcalito as soon as you said Mexican for dinner...it was rated highest and right across the street from the dock! 😂

Looks like a lot of dependence on electronics. The approach to Snows cut utilizes range markers for channel guidance. The rock pile at low tide has the markers literally on top of rocks. I have seen very expensive yachts holed using electronics in the rock pile. Use your electronics but learn to read the water. Good luck and safe travels.

Great advice for new and novice boaters! Guessing you haven't seen any of our other videos where I used old-school paper maps as they are my preferred method of navigation having grown up using them before fancy apps and navigational aids were in the palm of our hands. That said, in addition to paper, we use at least two different electronic navigation aids for up-to-date information on shoaling, hazards etc. Bob's tracks are a game changer for the ICW especially in GA and SC. And of course we read the water and markers too. We use it all and that has kept us safely boating for decades :)

Oh yes the beloved drip gland. You have the luxury of having a spacious engine room. On our 42 foot sailboat we had about 8 inches of space between the rear of the transmission and the packing gland. We accomplished the task while on our knees with our head below our knees. Not fun times. Love the videos.
