As someone who was high fiber, higher carb, vegan for 5 years… I developed horrible digestive issues. What I ate, came right back out. I was severely bloated all the time, nauseous all the time… in the bathroom all the time. All that on top of all the other health issues I developed… I was so done with veganism. Now I’m eating an animal based diet, full of fats and meat. Feel fantastic. All my health issues are gone, in less than a year.

People just lump in all "fiber" containing foods together though. Most of these individuals not tolerating the likes of highly refined carb rich processed foods such as breads, pastas, cakes, sweets etc Then trying to blame the likes of healthy whole plant-foods such as berries, broccoli etc that these people didnt even really eat any significant quantity of. FIber has become one of the most villainized nutritional factors virtually overnight all due to this carnivore fad diet pseudo-science extreme all meat/animal food fad thats popped up out of nowhere. Never thought I would see dietary fiber, prebiotic fibers become demonized in my time and fake diet "experts" telling their fans to never eat a healthy fiber rich whole plant-food ever again because its so supposedly bad for health now overnight based on no science of course.

Have been low carb for 8+ years, lost >60 lbs, A1c now stays around 5.3 from being diabetic previously. I am still basically on original Dr Atkins diet, as I my diet is green leafy veggies, full fat diary and meat, mostly red meat and sea food. I now have cut out so called “vegetable oils” and use butter, olive oil and lard. Have a huge family history of polyps colon cancer and have a few cut out before going low carb. Still being monitored by my gastrointestinal doctor, and nothing has been found in ten years. He still says to eat fiber, cut all meat/fats etc and is very congratulatory on me keeping my weight down all these years…noticed he is gaining a few lbs, will tell him my diet secret at some point.

I have learnt this lesson myself after years and years of being told to eat more fibre. I now eat NO fibrous foods and nolonger have IBS The sad thing is that eating fibre for the ‘microbiome’ has been the narrative for many years. I have found that once the gut is inflamed, fibre just makes it worse. This doctor is a gem

I’ve learned the VERY HARD WAY, that fiber shuts down everything in my gut. All gears grind to a halt. I got caught in the nightmare-cycle of eating MORE fiber to solve the problem that fiber started. I’m mostly carnivore now, and inflammation has decreased by a LOT.

Actually a bit of fiber can help bind bile and the toxins within that bile, so it's not reabsorbed, and helps transport it out of the body. I'm not talking about loads and loads of fiber, but some has this beneficial effect.
@tanyasydney2235
@tanyasydney2235 2 года назад
I think you're absolutely right. It's the dosage that counts. A bit (and the amount will depend on the individual) will help clear the toxins out. For me, this means no more than maybe a 1/4 tsp. a day. Many indigenous people, even those primarily on an animal based diet, will eat at least some tubers or berries, or other vegetation, and get their fiber that way.
@GregariousAntithesis
@GregariousAntithesis 2 года назад
Well apparently Doc i need to enlighten you as well about how wild carnivores get fiber. Its called fur and feathers as well as the grass ruminant from zebras and deer because they eat the entire animal from head to tail. I have watch plenty of youtube videos of Lions eating entire wild boar including intestines and stomach and the contents. I have seen wolf and bear scat and its always loaded with fur from their prey. So while you may choose to not eat fiber i will continue with my cruciferous vegetables primarily but also sugar free psyllium fiber because i believe it feeds the gut biome and if not it keeps me with my regular daily constitutional and i like a regular movement. I was crapping every three days on meat snd fat heavy diet and even with 4 cups of decaf still not regular. I have no gas because i don't have an over abundance sugar/carbs anymore in my digestive tract. It is the sugar and high glycemic carbs mixed with the fiber that causes gas, yeast over growth, fermentation in our gut. This you are completely off base on this. Since eating mostly meat and vegetables eliminating all the sugar, statch, grain and most fruit i can easily eat things like broccoli now without digestive issues because i dont have a over abundance of sugar and sugar based carbs to ferment the fiber. Im no doctor but having a daily movement is common sense more healthy than a 3 day. Amen

A colonoscopy recently showed I have colitis in my colon. I went carnivore for five weeks, my stomach swelling reduced, but I didn’t poop much. Over Thanksgiving fell off the wagon all my joint symptoms my bloating, my foot problems and many others returned after two days. Believe me I’m back on carnivore..

Oh my word~ such a painful, scary route getting here for her! So glad to hear your wife's issues have resolved, seriously~ that is no way to live at all. To be that miserable day in, day out is consuming & affects everything. My husband has been dealing with the same for about 20 yrs, & I just can't stand it. He's better now, after over a year on mostly carnivore, but he had been "low carb" per his doctor's "under 150 carbs a day" recommendation for many yrs prior-errggh! After we married in 2012, it took a few years before I truly understood how bad it was, & before he was comfortable sharing the worst of it~ which is understandable. Immediately I began researching everything I could, trying various things until we finally found keto, then carnivore ~ whew =) When you care so much for someone, there's literally nothing you won't do to alleviate their discomfort. Now retired after 34 yrs in the military, he gets his favorite steak several times a week, enjoys his beloved coffee w/out pain, & is a very happy guy~ which makes me even happier=) The key is to not stop until we figure it out, whatever "it" is, right? Life is very good. ~The Whitson's in AZ

@@RV-there-Yet What a lovely story. Thank you for sharing. Yes, this degree of IBS is very debilitating, and can actually affect personal relationships because of the constant state of discomfort the person is feeling. 150g/day of carbohydrates is not low-carb 🙂... that is what the "researchers" who are biased to veganism are pushing, because they are still under the misguided belief that exogenous carbohydrates are essential for human life. The problem is people will follow those guidelines, because they think that the pharmaceutical companies, the doctors, the researchers and the government, are responsible for their personal health. It is when you realize that you are the only person responsible for your own health, that you can really begin to heal.

It doens't mean "carnivore" extreme all meat/animal food fad diets that contain absolutely no healthy whole plant-food intake to be healthy, just because an extreme elimination fad diet that removes virtually every food-group and unhealthy processed food offered symptomatic relief. Any good dietician would be trying to work out why such an extreme plan that isnt safe to follow for health long-term offered relief, was it a food allergen that was removed, was it grains containing wheat/gluten etc. Its much the same as the extreme fruitarian fad diets, which remove virtually every food-group and of course many of the fans who try these diets have instant symptomatic relief. Doesn't mean eating a diet of only fruit or meat/animal foods is safe, nutritionally complete or healthy though, let alone optimal for preventing disease and promoting longevity.

@@Meritumas Must be like those people who cook abit of vegetables for 2 minutes and you're done Simple lol It doesn't mean we should now box ourselves into an extreme dangerous diet of just meat because its easy to buy or easy to cook, and start consuming no healthy whole plant-foods ever again. You might aswell just start dining at the heart attack grill following these carnivores and at least enjoy the refined burger bun, chips and condiements that you are depriving yourself of just to binge on an all meat dangerous fad diet thats going to result in likely early mortality and disease promotion anyway. I suspect your average junk food western dieters will radically outlive most of these carivore fad dieters because even individuals eating a typical processed western diet for 40-50 years often don't have as poor blood work as the liks of Shawn Baker and the carnivores do after just a year or so eating this way lol

As a WFPB (aka vegan) I had ever worsening IBS-C. The last 8 years or so I looked 4-5 months pregnant, developed an umbilical hernia (surgically repaired), diastasis recti, and was having trouble breathing, all from the intra abdominal pressure. 3 days, THREE DAYS, on keto diet with of course greatly reduced fiber intake, and all symptoms 100% gone. I'm stuck with the diastasis because that's structural damage.

@@margomoore4527Thank you. I did see a PT for other reasons, urination/prostate, and in the course of treatment she did ultrasound of my abdominal muscles while I "braced" as if to lift weights; I got to watch in real time for instant feedback. It turned out that my transverse abdominals were doing almost nothing and my obliques were doing all the work. And indeed, at rest my obliques were about 4 times as thick! So she slowed my way down and I worked at home for several weeks retraining and waking up those sleepy transverse. Now I have almost no diastasis and what little is there vanishes when I brace during exercise.

Thank you for this information and I personally know people who have so many of these problems, me, I have been on the Keto way of eating now for 12 mths as I was diagnosed with Hashimotos Disease back when I was 53. I am now nearly 70 and although have lost weight, the bloating went, bouts of Diverticulitis have stopped, do have more energy not wanting to have a sleep in the afternoon etc and although I have not seen a Dr for nearly 5 and half years feel that seeing a general Dr will not understand this way of eating as being beneficial at all. I have not found a Keto Dr but am following you Dr Cywes and you have given me hope that I am probably in remission now of the Hashimotos. My mum had problems with Irritable Bowel also other health issues but unfortunate she was diagnosed with cancer and passed when she was 84 that was in 2003. My sister had a check on the bowel with a test and had to have a small section cut out found polyps and she is ok now. My brother-in-law has Crohns disease and is managed by diet at present. What is frustrating is that the more you find out about how fiber is not needed in our diet and try informing your loved ones this and they just dont believe you! I have even sent a video explaining all this but most of the time they wont take the time to watch it. I look after my well being and every now and then may go out to have a meal but I am so choosy about what I consume now as I know that all those added bits and pieces they put in our food will irritate my gut and I pay for it at the other end the next day 🤨🤨.

@@shar7508 Alex, look into Eat Right for Your Type by Dr. Peter D'Adamo. There he lists veggies (and all food categories) according to what a person needs based on what blood type someone is. I helped my sister recuperate from surgery and loose over 100 pounds by applying what he has research and taught there. If you are blood type A (she was)... your meat sources should be chicken, turkey, and fish (not all fish... he gives a list)... but your BEST source of Protein is soy (tofu, soy milk, soy "meat," and soy beans [in all forms]). Soy meat is so inexpensive! I made that for her often, and she ate it as you would use ground beef (not for burger patties, though). I would diced (mince) tofu and put it in her yogurt. Knowing something about cooking and how to play around with his to use and combine different foods is helpful. Most people don't know what to do with a loaf of Tofu. So it requires learning (online research), experimentation, trial and error, and patience. If you are blood type O, your focus should be on sources animal protein (which D'Amato also lists)...if you are Type O, Carnivore is the way to go, or "Ketovore" (some people need some veggies [which D'Adamo lists] but just the 40-20 carbs or less. Just remember that each person is different. Also, Dr. D'Adamo wrote his books before the idea of Kero and Carnivore were "out there," so he does not speak using those terms. Also, if you are Type O, go to RU-vid and look for Laura Spath (especially her recent "Costco Haul), and also Kelly Hogan (or it might be Logan) at "myzerocarblife"). Best wishes for a healthier, happier life!!! ❤

@@shar7508 We have basic red meat, consists of steak, lamb, chicken and pork. Have bacon and eggs for breakfast every day and Veges Broccolini and broccoli, cauliflower, beans basicly. Sometimes we will have a deconstructed burger which is Cos lettuce and on top of that a lamb burger with tomato and melted cheese on top and onion we will have this for lunch. Today we had a huge field mushroom, cooked onion, bacon, and grated cheese melted on top and Sriracha hot chilli sauce on top just small amounts that is, for lunch. Fruits are blueberries, strawberries and Raspberries with full fat cream on top for dessert if we feel like it. We were also having Monk Fruit with erythritol but found it left an after taste in your mouth so what I do now is if I want a sweetener I use strawberries or blueberries to sweeten. Only use about 1/3 of a cup and just mush it up a bit if its fresh fruit or froz I just cook it for about 5 mins till its not froz but warm. Once I stopped having rice, wheat, grains, sugar, potato and any other veg that can be too high in carbs and only have what I mentioned and cook with lard or olive oil. No more diverticulitis!

To be correct, no mammals have the enzymes to break the saccharide chains of cellulose down into digestible sugars. All require the assistance of a gut microbiome to make use of cellulose. Even more interesting is that mammals also digest the metabolites of these microbes, which supply fatty acids, as well as the microbes themselves, which supply protein. So when a cow, or horse or gorilla gets large and muscular while eating grass and leaves, it's not the forage that does it. The plants feed the microbes, and the microbes feed the mammal!

This explains why a high fiber diet absolutely WILL NOT WORK for a human the same way it works for other primates. Humans have almost completely lost our cecums and the capacity to effectively ferment cellulose in the hindgut. This means we cannot foster the necessary gut biome, which effectively feeds other primates

Who cares about nutritional balance afterall, all you need to do now for health is binge on rib-eye steaks and animal foods, its the cure for every disease seemingly. Just makes sure you dont even eat a bite of a single healthy whole plant-foods such as berries, they contain mystical "plant toxins" that make you too healthy lol

I was "diagnosed" with IBS after having some issues, the Dr said my intestines were very inflamed, and asked if I use ibuprofen often, which was actually something I rarely used. My diet was pretty much trash, so the standard American diet. Addicted to carbs, sugar, junk food and fast food. Going on 30 days doing "ketovore" and aside from the usual mentioned "keto flu" bowel movement symptoms, my overall gut has been tremendously better. I have cut my antacid use in half, the inflammation in my left leg has gone down considerably, and I've lost 29lbs, 2 pant sizes and 1 shirt size. It's incredible what can happen in 30 days. Happy to have found Dr. Cywes, as several others putting out this info.

While on keto, I experienced severe problems with my bowel movements. Went days between them and when my body was finally ready to go, I had to push extremely hard to make it happen. When I had regular fiber, my movements were every day like clockwork. At age 67, I think my body was trying to tell me something. I have gone back to eating green vegetables and I am much more regular and on schedule. I agree that in theory your body can do without carbs, but not sure my system is ready for it.

I am experiencing exactly what you said about being infrequent, and having to push extremely hard. To me, there is no blueprint diet for each and everyone to follow. We all have to see what works for us. However having said that, I am always curious to find out information from others, hence watching these videos and reading the comments. Could I ask, what kind of green veggies do you eat now ? Kind regards.

One proven use of fibre seems to be protection from fructose overload in the gut (by lining the gut or something). So fibre is needed so you can eat fructose rich fibre foods. Or just don't eat fructose rich foods, works as well. :-)

Dr. William Davis (author of Super Gut) rates fermented foods very highly for gut health. Regular pickles and olives are not, strictly speaking, fermented foods. Dr Paul Mason said that adding fibre to clear constipation makes as much sense as adding more cars to clear a traffic jam. I had a day of exploding diarrhoea when my intestines started to clean out all the bad stuff I'd been eating all my life, a week or so after I stopped all carbs except a very small quantity of non-inflammatory veg once a day. After that day of withdrawal symptoms, my belly deflated and now looks and feels normal.

@Meritumas 2 года назад

@evidence-basedhealthuk5271

Evidence is solid? Its mostly a bunch of individuals lying who are still eating and cheating with some intake of fiber containing plant-foods behind closed doors, yet trying to make out to their fans they are living on a dangerous extreme fad diet of nothing but meat/rib-eye steaks and some animal foods. The individuals who actually do dilligtently try to follow a no fiber diet end up constipated in days on carnivore until the point they cannot function without reintroducing plants back into their diet aka the vast majority of these individuals from Rogan to the rest. A diet completely void of all dietary fiber and whole plant-foods is just a complete recipe for early mortality and disease promoton, not even safe or healthy to begin with. So you've got the long-term carnivores literally having to overload their liver with saturated fats until it causes an IBS style bowel movement or resorting to laxative supplements such as magnesium just to do a bowel movement, all because they are generically terrified of all dietary fiber, even prebiotic fibers which support the beneficial gut flora and scared of plants usually due to a variety of nutritional factors they don't even understand the science of correctly.

A lot of people are fascinated by my keto/carnivore journey, and one of the biggest talking points is this topic - how I don't eat fiber, and how I only poop once or twice every 7 - 10 days. The most common misconception I find is that it is NECESSARY to poop once or twice a day (3 times, for some people). So when I ask them, "Why?", the answer I most often get back is, "Because we just have to". There appears to be a disconnect between how we eat, and why we poop. So when I explain that poop is waste (food that the body has not been able to absorb), and not pooping on a keto/carnivore lifestyle means that you have no waste, I stop for 30 seconds and let that sink in... if you are pooping so much, it means you are not absorbing most of what you eat. But if you poop little and have no bowel obstructions, issues or complications, then that should mean that you are, indeed, absorbing most of what you eat, non? Isn't it better to absorb most of what you eat, rather than less? When I 1+1 it for them like this, they start to get it. But even then, it's impossible for them to wrap their heads around not pooping twice or thrice a day... that somehow, pooping twice or thrice a day is part of a healthy lifestyle, as if creating waste constantly is a necessity to human life. It's the oddest thing 🙂. Once again, great video, Doc! Thank you!

Thank you for taking the time to write this. I myself have recently changed up my diet. To describe my diet style I would say it is low carb, I mostly eat eggs and Sardines, with the odd veg such as Celery and Bell pepper. I found your comment very interesting because I also now poop very infrequently. However, when I do have to go, the poop itself is so dense, it's like pushing a damn table leg out my ass, and usually just as thick (excuse the graphic mental imagery). Do you find your poop to be extremely dense ? Mine literally blocks the toilet, everytime. The trouble is I suffer with haemorrhoids, so these big dense poops usually disrupt things in some way. .... I'm writing this now wondering why I'm sharing this info ?! Can you relate at all ?!
