Great topic. Maybe next time get a guest that works for a plate carrier company so that the information is more precise

For any other civvies out there looking for a spot to start, I would take look at the Hesco L210 special threat plates. You can get a carrier and plate set through TRex arms for sub 600 bucks, and stop 855 rounds out of a 20 in barrel at less than 11 pounds. As far as a balance of weight, cost, and protection it's a good entry point to check out. Super happy with mine.

Its nice to have just to workout in for that extra weight haha. Also I do conceal carry a modified ac1 with iiia soft armor or u210 plates depending on the situation. Usually soft iiia though in summer. Always use the carrier to carry my conceal carry in the cumberbund, along with a extra mag, pepper spray, and cuffs. Everything is concealed within my coveralls so from a glance you cant tell im carrying anything at all and it frees my pockets for tools. Always carry because im never know where I may be working as a handyman. Used to work maint at a hotel where i doubled as security which helped start my carrier use. Best to have it always concealed so noone suspects. Also have a spc carrier for range use, but dont use in regular day to day haha since I cant conceal it.

I have a carrier with cheapo steel plates just for running and working out. Damn thing weights nearly 18 lbs with nothing attached.

@@Kycirion Haha definitely get your money's worth pumping steel! I often double plate in the rear so that I can work my abs more so than my back given I doesnt make the carrier to imbalanced. Rucking achieves the same effect but sloshes around more than id like to precisely muscle focus.

Doesn't matter if you need it in the moment, if you ever have the potential to have to need it, which even though it's a SLIM chance we might, you'll wish you trained in one if you have to use it.

DKX armor. It floats and it stops 762x51. High density poly. It's pretty thick, @ 1" but it's lighter than most any other lv3 plate. +/- 4lbs. ea.

It was a good show, missing was sizing the carrier and plates. Not everyone fits a a 10 inch by 12 inch plate. Also the difference between # and #A the #A is pistol only while # plate is rated for rifle. Also some plates are rated for use with A rated armor under the plates.

Awesome topic. And no expert here but if anyone is new to this and is curious and your job isn’t an operator please please go for the lightest and minimalistic carrier to your needs. I know that’s a loaded statement but I’m becoming a proponent for plates and nothing else off one’s chest and running a belt for EVERYTHING ELSE. Lightweight is so much more important than SILO.

A plate carrier (or backpack) with armor is like a fire extinguisher. Do you always need one? Maybe not. But if & when you do, you’ll be glad you have it instead of not. Haven’t seen Chris since North Carolina years ago. “Hey bud!”

it’s a must if you’re 2A advocate, and train with it. i run mine during comps and workouts. i am civilian. helps by putting us in uncomfortable situations, and how to use your pistol/rifle. 😎👍

If you want to buy your first body armor you should also think about IIIa body armor for conceal carrying. Something you can wear while shopping or walking a dog without attracting attention. Also, it's not only about weight and and thickness. Plates are manufactured in different shapes, multi-curved plates are generally less annoying to wear at the cost of some extra money.

The T-Rex Arms crew does a much better job at going over armor and body carriers. They use newer products folks today would actually buy and are a lot more educated on this issue. There's a lot of half/missing info in this. Honestly. this was kind of a waste of time. Just head over to the T-Rex Arms youtube channel.

Since when does 3a stop rifle rounds?
@Honkers716
@Honkers716 Год назад
I love how most of you don't understand that yeah, the vest may stop the bullet, congrats, but the vest is not stopping the force that bullet has behind it. You think your lung won't collapse from the 2,000+ft force that a bullet can carry?

What are you guys going to do with plate armor, do you expect to get into a shoving match with an old lady at Walmart over a case of White Claw?

The a designation is for pistol rounds, 3A will not stop rifle rounds! Please do not think it will! Vortex, edit for safety reasons.. 3a is NOT in-between 3 and 4 plates, it's not 3&1/2.

Safety reasons? Lol
@robertpettus6037
@robertpettus6037 2 года назад
@@JohnMaxGriffin yes, level 3a is a pistol rated plate or panel, it is not rated as a 3 1/2 as stated by this guest. This could be potentially harmful if someone uses this information and wears 3a thinking it's going to stop rifles rounds. What's your issue with what I said?
@JohnMaxGriffin
@JohnMaxGriffin 2 года назад
@@robertpettus6037 I’m aware of the difference, but saying this should be taken down for safety reasons is a little over the top
@robertpettus6037
@robertpettus6037 2 года назад
@@JohnMaxGriffin they should atleast edit that part out. They spent the first 10 minutes building this guy up as an expert on armor and quick search would refute this but the issue is these guys are considered experts but this is bad info that nobody should rely on, and painting this as expert advice could lead those who don't do research beyond this podcast to either waste money or at the very worst use the wrong armor for their needs and find out afterwards.

@@paulnelson7384 So. A military veteran can be wrong about something. I know bc I'm wrong sometimes as well, just ask my wife, and she and I are both vets. He probably never needed to know the differences in armor, he had choices laid out in front of him and got to choose from them for the role he was in like most.
