Thermal specializes in detection via thermal signature. Image intensification (nvg’s) is better for positive ID and being able to see in limited illumination settings

@@chrisakafrench I just want them to try lol. I can’t imagine if they made a halfway decent pvs-14 that cheap even for 2k that is a Gen 3 thin filled. how many they’d sell.

@@chrisakafrench the cost to manufacture is high, however demand is growing and will continue you to. I’m not the guy, but I’m sure there is a Henry Ford of NVG’s out there that can figure out how to drastically lower costs of tube manufacture. Problem is tube manufacturers don’t want to lower the cost, because of how high demand is.

@@JL-pj6kk no company is going to invest in a stagnant analog technology that is tough to produce, doesn’t get easier the more you try to make, and the quality of the resulting product has as much to do with luck as it does with experience, technique, or process. The elephant in the room of course is that like literally ever other analog technology- be it vacuum tube sound amplification, film photography or movies, or vinyl sound recording- it will only take money and time before digital solutions are able to surpass the performance of tubes. No one short of a fetishist would think of using film to record the nightly news- and storing and replaying information stored digitally not only allows vastly improved degradation of the source material’s quality but it’s also far less delicate an operation. For the moment- because the use of night vision was so limited in scope- digital technology still lags far behind the best gen iii analog tubes- but with increased consumer interest coupled with investment in the development of digital night vision by traditional optics firms- with apologies to Steve Albini-fukkk analog the future is digital. Nonetheless, having just bought a Sionyx I’m not driving a proverbial Tesla or even a Prius. I’ve got the equivalent of a golf cart from 1983I insist on driving on the road because it’s adavanded human mobility technolog!

it matters what you want to see and it takes way more money for thermal to do cool things. eat more carrots theyre still cheaper.

@@anotheryoutuber_ I run a couple of thermals for hog hunting in Texas and I’m looking at getting a night vision setup so I’m aware of the cost; I would like to hear a few pros and cons. Thanks for the advice of eating more carrots though.
