Gurez Valley can be accessed by road from Srinagar. This journey can take about 5 to 6 hours by road (Distance - 140 km). We visited Gurez valley in the month of June, which is the peak season time.
Note: Gurez valley is cut off from the rest of kashmir during winter time i.e. November to March.

Below are the activities / key destinations we visited on the way to Gurez valley.
Mahatta Homestay Srinagar - We started our journey early in Srinagar.
Tariff - Rs 5000 double occupancy. I did this booking through make my trip - I paid 10,250 for 2 rooms without dinner but breakfast was included in the package.

We took turn from Sumbal we traveled through these points-
Sunset Point Wular Lake is said to be Asia's largest freshwater lake. It is about 45 km away from Srinagar. The Jhelum river is the prime source of water for this lake.
Bandipora is about 65 km away from Srinagar, Earlier Bandipora and Baramulla were one district now these are two different districts.
Gurez valley falls in Bandipora district.
Tragbal is a breakpoint for tourists to enjoy some light snacks, there are about 8 to 10 eateries at this place.
Razdan pass is about 10 km away from Tragbal.
Razdan Pass is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 11,672 ft above sea level in the Himalayas of Jammu and Kashmir, India.
Kishan Ganga River - It is a major tributary of the west-flowing Jhelum River. It is also known as Neelum River.
Kaka Palace - We ended our day at Dawar and booked our room in this hotel. Dawar is the largest town of Gurez valley.
Tariff: Rs 4500 plus tax for double occupancy including breakfast and dinner.
Next day started from Kaka Palace Dawar, Gurez Valley.
CHC Dawar Hospital is a community health centre of Gurez Valley. Another primary health center is also there in Gurez Valley which is (PHCs).
Though Gurez has 11 ambulances, heavy snowfall in winter hampers their operations. It is not always practical to airlift patients. So they are referred to other hospitals in cities, even for minor issues.
Habba Khatoon Peak is the dominant peak in Gurez Valley. Habba Khatoon, named Zoon (meaning moon) by her parents, was a Kashmiri poetess in the 16th century. There is the Habba Khatoon spring near the peak.
After this we went back to Kaka Palace and ended our day there.
Note: This place has a challenge on electricity, some homestays like kaka palace have their own Generators but they are not allowed to run them after 11 pm.,
Timings when they run generator 7 pm to 11 pm.
plus they have solar setup but voltage level obtained from solar connection is low.
If you are looking at other options, then you may check this electricity thing with the homestay or guest house owner..
Taxi charges and driver name-
Showkat Bhai - you saw him in the video, he took us to Gurez and Gulmarg, he generally specialises in Offbeat tourism.
I learnt from locals then if you hire a taxi from Srinagar then you will have to hire a local taxi for Gurez sightseeing and charages for srinagar to and fro back 2 nights and 3 days is 24k.
Now this local taxi thing has not been validated, so its better if you confirm this with your homestay owner,
Showkat bhai is a resident of Srinagar but keeps on travelling to Gurez quite often, similarly there are many others who do this.
Showkat bhai can be reached on - 9906876232 , He is a good guy, sometimes because of existing customers with him, he may not take booking for himself, so in that case, you will need to check on the driver bcoz every one has different nature and different level of flexibility.
