ABOUT US
Welcome to Grand Adventure, a RU-vid channel that focuses on RV-centric outdoor activities including not only of course camping, but also mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, skiing and more, nearly always filmed in stunning 4K.
We're based in Salt Lake City, Utah, and invite you to come along as we travel all around the western U.S. My wife Patricia and I, and our dogs Zoe and Maggie are avid boondockers, so you'll seldom find us in RV parks or even dry campgrounds. Instead, we're usually camped in some of the most remote and beautiful spots that you could ever pull a travel trailer into. And unlike most other RV channels on RU-vid, we're not RV dealers or full-timers -- we're weekend warriors just like you!
We'll provide tips and insight on equipping and maintaining your RV, trip planning and travel videos to make your next adventure a grand one indeed! So, subscribe to make sure that you catch every episode, and remember...life is nothing but a Grand Adventure!

I was lucky enough to have the privilege of hiking down into the Grand Canyon and camping at the bottom. It was a once in a lifetime adventure I will never forget. Can’t wait to visit Sedona some day.

Yes Mike, I'd love to camp down at Phantom Ranch. Friends have done the Rim to Rim hike and stayed down there. That must have been memorable.

We recently visited the North Rim. Much more enjoyable and a fraction of the people. Beautiful hikes and ways to see the canyon in private!

We're thrilled to have you here, Tim! But please check out some of our more recent episodes if you haven't done so already. This was only our third attempt, and sometimes these early videos absolutely make us cringe compared to what we're doing now. 😉

It was. It was not under consideration during our recent visit to Sedona as it was still snowed in a couple of weeks earlier, and thus would've been a bit sloppy.

Hi Marc, new subscriber here. Thanks for the great boondocking tips. I used to live just north of where you were camping during this video and rode those roads all the time. Next time you’re in the area of the Grand Canyon, go to the north rim instead. Awesome places to camp, fantastic mtb trail along the rim, and no crowds. You’ll have a completely different experience than what you had on the south rim while still having breathtaking views. Also, if you ever make it back to Oregon, head to the Steens Mountains/Alvord Desert area in the far southeast of the state. Side trips to Malheur National Wildlife Refuge and Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge will add to your enjoyment. You will not be disappointed.

Excellent tips, thank you! We'll definitely file those away for the future, although the North Rim was already under consideration.So glad you found us - welcome!

HA! I’m glad my sisters and I we’re not the only ones to be underwhelmed by the Grand Canyon South Rim! Our first trip to AZ was to visit Page AZ, all the way up in the boonies. I researched all the places we can to go and we chose Antelope Canyon, it’s a slot canyon, however we drove up route 89 and loved the changing landscape, like we went off planet 🌎, but it wasn’t until we turned the corner during the sunset and there it was in all her beauty “Vermillion Cliffs” we pulled over to take it all in and all we could say is “WOW” our mouths dropped, the emense beauty of it was breathtaking! We stayed a few days in Page to explore the area !AWESOME! That’s all I have to say....then when we went to see the Grand Canyon we felt like a deflated ballon, it was like Ah! It’s ok! So yeah! for some it’s the bomb... but for others not so much! Seen a lot better & yeah the crowds are awful! My sister and I went back to Page a few times, however the drive to Blanding and going thru Primitive Gulch was real nice! Now that’s land you can set your mind free! Keep it wild and keep it safe in ur travels!
@GrandAdventure
@GrandAdventure 4 года назад
Thanks for sharing your experience! The Page area is indeed spectacular. For us, what left us wanting at the South Rim was that there are other places with similar (but not as large) views, without all of the people. Folks say we need to get to the North Rim for solitude, and one of these days we will.

Enjoyed the video .. I believe now It is really hard to see the Grand Canyon without a lot of people around. I hope seeing it in the off season helps. I was there in August of 2010 and don't even remember the crowds …. I stay in the Canyon with my son and it was a wonderful trip. I believe the numbers of people visiting has skyrocketed. I did pick up tips on the other places you visited, which is why I watch. Thanks so much.
@GrandAdventure
@GrandAdventure 5 лет назад
Thank you so very much for watching and for your comment, Susan! One day we'll try the North Rim to see if we can escape the crowds any better over there.
@sonofabutcher7003
@sonofabutcher7003 5 лет назад
You missed the boat if all you did was stay above the rim at Grand Canyon. According to Park Rangers only 5% of visitors to the Canyon drop below the rim. That’s where the crowds aren’t. The hike down to Phantom Ranch and/or the Colorado River is pretty extreme however, that’s only one of hundreds of hikes you can take below the rim. If you ever decide to return there I encourage you to try hiking to Indian Gardens or Ooh-Ahh Point (both are rated 5-star hikes on AllTrails) or one of the many other less strenuous hikes available for the taking.
@GrandAdventure
@GrandAdventure 5 лет назад
You raise an excellent point, Gregg. We definitely will, although I'm fairly certain that we'll do so from the North Rim where we have a bit more peace and quiet up on top. Although this was admittedly a whirlwind visit, the crowds on the South Rim really turned us off.

Yo dude! You were trying to go too fast. When you’re at the South Rim you have to walk away from the people. Then there is a shuttle you can take back. We didn’t see people for long periods of times and saw much better views. We spent the whole day there. A day a Wapatki. And a day at Sunset Crater. It works much better!

@GrandAdventure
@GrandAdventure 5 лет назад
Thank you Jesi! We just prefer more solitary experiences than the GC was able to deliver. We really didn't show the masses of people but it was just nuts, especially at the Devil's View Watchtower. Had we hiked down into the canyon I'm sure that it would've been less crowded, but nevertheless still busy. By that point, though, we were pretty turned off to the whole experience. We'd much rather visit places like the "Little Grand Canyon" of the San Rafael Swell for similar views but just a wide scattering of other people.

Mark, I agree with you that The Grand Canyon was indeed underwhelming to as well although I only saw the south rim. The bus was so loaded with tourists from China and other middle eastern counties that it was just too crowded for my tastes. Give me less popular sites and quiet time to absorb the ambience.

How was the Dugway in your rig? We'll be in Valley of the Gods next week with our 20' GeoPro and Chevy Colorado ZR2. We did the North Rim of the GC last year at this time, then Valley of Fire, NV.

Not that bad, Gary, as there was very little other traffic. Still, we didn't realize that our GPS was routing us that way until we arrived at the top, realized where we were, and that it was too late to go back around. Have fun! VOG is absolutely spectacular, North Rim is on our list, and we love VOF.

RIck, we honestly don't do much, and we talk about it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3751kg4jhts.html . We lock the door to the rig, and put a small deterrent lock on the trailer's hitch. We cable lock the generator, solar panel, etc. -- things that are valuable yet walk away easily. Less valuable things are pretty much left unsecured, and we thankfully haven't yet had any issues. We've been asked this so often, however, that we may well do an episode just on this subject.

At 9:59 in the video you're sitting on your chair . Can I ask what kind of chairs those are and where do you get them ?
@GrandAdventure
@GrandAdventure 6 лет назад
Depending on where you buy them, they're either called moon chairs or club chairs. We bought ours at Camping World for ~$50 each www.campingworld.com/search?keyword=club+chair , but in the video description under "Our RV" I've linked to nearly identical ones on Amazon (at an admittedly higher price): amzn.to/2P72ZFB . Either way, they're ridiculously comfy!

Absolutely you could. It's a good road, just a short steep and winding grade.

LOL! Thanks for your candor! To be honest it's not my first choice either, but a) we've got to pick something that most people can deal with (kind of like cooking food blandly to suit the most sensitive palate in the bunch), and b) we've got to be able to afford to license the music.
