The lady in the red tank top really angered me. I wish someone would have called her out in front of everyone. She's a visitor in their country and it's highly disrespectful to do what she did here. Other than that...thank you for your videos. I've really enjoyed them.
I agree, every time we saw a Maiko, that lady went right up to their face, she blocked the view from everybody else and that's extremely disrespectful.
People are running after them like they are Hollywood celebrities. No manners whatsoever. They probably don't even know what they're looking at. Geez. Put yourself in their place. Would you like it if rude tourists came to your town, hounded you and shoved a camera in your face? Look, don't stare. Be polite. Take a photo, preferably with a long lens, and let them go about their business. Dave, at least, is respectful of them and only films from afar.
Yeah.... It must be weird having someone chase you down the street phone in hand. I assume they are used to it but I would feel like an impolite jerk doing that.
I only do this because people love to see it. I get so many emails about people thanking me for showing this because they love the Geisha culture and they will never be able to come to japan and see it for themselves. Most of the people are actually elderly Japanese who are not able to travel from where they are so if there are those who take it as me being an “impolite jerk” then so be it. I do it for the others who are thankful and appreciate that they can see this.
@@DaveinOsaka I was actually referring to the lady chasing people down the street and just getting in the way. I think you were going about it the right way and just generally filming the goings on.
Geisha is artist and entertainer. When a woman wish to be geisha , she must enter the Maiko training school. Maiko is student before as to be geisha . They must study Japanese poem, traditional dance, siging , music instruments, how to wear kimono, noble and polite conversation, tea ceremony, and calligraph. Geisha must have culture. But almost foreigners are rude. Foreigners have no manners. Japan will accept only cultivated people.
@@moetpo4521 You can hear her speaking English in the beginning without a UK or Australian accent. 'Possibly' Canadian but most likely American because this is how we behave, unfortunately. It's bad enough in the US but it's amplified when you see how we behave as guests in other countries. I'm appalled by how the lady in orange behaved. It makes us all look bad. She didn't even look at these two young women as "people." She didn't smile at them when she was face to face with them, she didn't nod, give a little bow, nothing -- she didn't acknowledge them at all... then grabs her camera and races in front of them -- why? She didn't care about them before but it's a great 'photo op', like they're two Disneyland characters. And, sure enough... I went to this area and now there are no cameras allowed... for obvious reasons. Sorry for the rant but her behavior still infuriates me.
That girl in the tank top got me angry asf, she was blocking the maikos and like going infront of them just to take pictures, like couldn't you take pictures from the side, She a visitor there but highly disrespectful.
Maikos are pretty... So amazing to see... Even the geisha They really have a vibe of a star.. Shining.... Maybe this is how it feels to see one before.. Fascinating.
Hello Dave! amazing collection of videos you have here! Could i use a small portion like 2 seconds of your video (paraphrase purpouse) for another video I plan to upload in youtube, talking about Gion and Geishas? Of course I will give you credit for it! Thanks ☺

I respect you. You had the balls to accually go out to see one. I'm afraid it might be a habbit because I know it's gonna be a killer(awesome) experience.
Maaan if You want To see them, You have TO WALK IN THE BACKSTREETS .They avoid to pass by hanamikoji dori because is full of tourist that might slow them down. And second You shouldn't stay in The same spot You should move around into diffrent streets. PS: i'm a new follower from italy
+Lucia Gianquitto Hello, Lucia and thank you for watching. I prefer to film on the Main Street because I have more room to move and I can film them and see them coming from a distance.
Also, when you walk in the backstreets, you tend to suddenly run into them and surprise them and I don't like to do that. I like to stand FAR out of their way. I do not want to be like the tourist we saw in this video who I found very rude.
DaveinOsaka i understand You. I saw in other videos People Who stopped in front of The doors ,And The two maiko Who were going out were scared by them because of that
Maiko or geiko (geisha) cannot walk the outside in full dress in the daytime. All of them are just tourists experiencing maiko. There are some shops in Kyoto that rent costumes and help in dressing for impersonating as a maiko.
The most popular geishas have no specific period to work and they don't have only entertainments at night, they have comercial or photoshoot on the daylight.
Lois Lim There is a by-law that says you can’t take photos of them. It was supposed to last until the beginning of December. I haven’t been back to check if they have allowed photos again.
