We leave Namlea and sail north. The idea is to tuck in to a little bay before the wind comes up and send us back south again.
Unfortunately, the weather changes and we have no choice but to continue around the top of Buru Island. We hope to stop along the way but there are no suitable anchorages and so we sail through the night and continue around to the eastern side of Buru and the little village of Tomahu.
We head ashore and check out the hillside village.
We explore the shallow waters, surrounding one of the nearby islands, in Peanut and come across an amazing sight…

Clear waters and vibrant colours, lovely contrast, I get the impression this is a place that is not in the usual guides.

Hi Steven. You are absolutely right. Tomahu was in northern Indonesia and we ended up there due to weather. It had a small village where we anchored with a further two small villages nearby. The steep terrain I’m sure prevented the villages from expanding much. The water was crystal clear and the coral untouched. We were told there was a crocodile around so we didn’t snorkel and perhaps that added to the pristine condition of the coral. The starfish were amazing! A wonderful find. W.
