Van Morrison is great, Moondance is my favourite album of his. And It Stoned Me is my favourite song by Van the Man. That’s awesome you got to see him in concert, sorry to hear about your grandfather.
@whatthejim there's a lot of great Van albums out there. If you've never listened to the Tupelo Honey or St Dominic's Preview albums then I'd go there next!
Great video and insight. As a fellow Van Morrison completist, I agree with you that almost every album has exceptional material on it. As he pushes 80, he’s still pumping out album after album and I look forward to hearing them. My introduction to Van Morrison started in 2015 when Duets came out. Since then, my collection and appreciation for him has grown. Thanks for the video Sam.
Van, like many artists, is popular because of his talent with a pen. His personal politics don’t usually land him hits. “Hymns to the Silence” is one of my favorite gifts from you! (As to my brother, your uncle, he still has a few of my CDs and a couple of cassettes that he borrowed and left me with the empty cases. He can keep the cassettes.)
Excellent video Sam. As much as I love Van's music, I need to listen to him more, especially his 80 and 90s work. Astral Weeks and Moondance are masterpieces. Tupelo Honey isn't far behind. Three of my favorite songs you mentioned are Real Real Gone, Precious Time and Why Must I Always Explain. Wonderful story about your grandfather and the Van concert. Great stuff. This series is awesome.
Thanks Rich, that story will forever be associated with Van. You definitely need to jump into more of his stuff, there's so much of his catalog to explore! Thanks my friend.
Also since you highlighted as a favorite "Beautiful Vision" if you don't have a copy get "Inarticulate Speech of the Heart" Mind blowing beauty that slipped away with little fanfare.
When i saw the thumbnail i was excited to view this because i really enjoyed the video's you did on Dylan, The Beatles & Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - they were all great! And though i owned 'Astral weeks' & 'Moondance' after finding your channel nearly a few years back now! - i fed off your enthusiasm and got back into him now ive got 8 or 9 albums (most recently a vinyl copy of 'Common one' which i look forward to spending some quality time with soon!) i'm a big fan of 'inarticulate speech of the heart' & 'Beautiful vision', 'Into the music' is very good - like you say - a fascinating artist - great video Sam! Cheers!
This is a really great video. I am a big fan of Van and am always perplexed when someone tells me they do not like him. My mom hated Van, as I have mentioned previously. That was mostly about the track TB Sheets 🙂
Great video. Thank you for the mention and sharing your stories about your beginnings with Van and how he has sustained interest. Your mom has great taste. I jealous of being able to see him in concert and the heartwarming story. I think that I have all his studio albums and collaborations. I don't have any hits collections and there may be a live album that I am missing. I do have his worst album as well and there are a couple songs that I can listen to if I pretend that they are about something else. Wonderful series.
I was waiting for your comment Randy, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Mom definitely has great taste, I've seen many, many concerts with her. I'm sure I'm missing more live albums.

Great video Sam. I'm always starting video series then forgetting to carry on with them. It took me years to come to Van. I come and go with him a bit but do enjoy him quite a bit.
@jamesgriffithsmusic hey thanks for joining James. It's funny, I have a list of artists I want in this series but then don't think I have enough to say, apparently I was wrong! Take care!
Hi Sam! I first found out about Van Morrison when he was with THEM! A fantastic 60's band, have their first 2 lps on the Parrot label. Love the both of them!..Lol 😊 And of course his solo work is stellar as well! Thanks for your insight on Van. Take care and enjoy the rest of your week, Allan
Hey Sam, while this isn’t really my genre, I do have his hits album and it’s a nice calm spin. I love when you talk about your favorites like this as you can always feel the passion you have towards them. Great work Sam. 🤙🏻
Nice TB sheets is awesome Is 70s output is just fantastic all the way up through wavelength Is 80s output is pretty good he faltered a couple of times but not too bad When he got together with the Irish band The chieftains was kind of unique Kind of now though older elder he's still really good how do I have and bought too many of the later of the albums I do have the later double album
@@samstjohn1994 it sure is how you can write a song about tuberculosis Of course I always like when Martin Scorsese you always picks great stuff for his films pulled that out for the Nicolas Cage bringing out the Dead.
Great overview Sam on Van the Man! His musical muse is timeless and every time you go back into his discography it always sounds current, and his politics are truth. BTW Dylan's 1974 Tour box set in 2 weeks!
Why I love Sam: 1. Smart young fella 2. Easy going good bloke 3. The hair 4. Solid politics 5. Wears a suit well Why I hate Van: ...I'll be nice & leave it at that except to say Van is the opposite to the Sam top 5.
Hi Sam, i never like Van and still dont, his utter contempt for paying audiences by turning his back on them during concerts is disgusting. i thought his comments during the whole Covid-19 pandemic were ill informed, you mentioned his politics are 'insane' do you mean the whole covid thing or general political views, if so what are his views as i know nothing about that side of him other than he wanted peace in Northern Ireland during The Troubles. that said, i admire your love of his music, - Lloyd
Hey Lloyd, Van doesn't do the back to the audience thing anymore. He went through a phase of intense stage fright and that's probably why he chose that route. I'll try not to get too political, but what he was saying about lockdown was ridiculous. Thanks Lloyd!
