Very slick production. I can't believe Halifax has such a wide freeway. I never knew.

Nova Scotia Highway 111 is a partial beltway in the metro area of Halifax. It circles 13 km starting from Halifax crossing the Halifax Harbor with the A. Murray MacKay Bridge and encircles around Halifax's neighbor, Dartmouth.

The video started off on Pleasant Street in South Woodside. I grew up on Brompton Rd during the eighties. That part of the road used to be called the "bear trap".

Nice piece of roadway. I think the best we have in Calgary is a 8 lane section of freeway. That could change in the next few years with the new freeway being built on the west side of Calgary.

Where I live in Fairfax Va in the US, the capital beltway gets up to 14 lanes wide (it surrounds Washington DC)

Aha here in Winnipeg all roads are full of cracks, and really bad bumps. Also, the roads are terrible, there so tight and narrow in intersections, and due to Winnipegs enormous population, highways for some stupid reason haven't been built in Winnipeg....

Also I forgot to mention MicMac Mall is also reasonable. I am not sure what will become of the Bay there although it is spacy to walk around. Only in the mall otherwise we visit the watch shop where we know one of the guys who works there and fixes them well

I live in Halifax in the centre of the city although I like Dartmouth to sometimes cruiuse and shop because I like Burnside for the shops, and the Dartmouth Crossing and the Superstore in Cole Harbour area is better than the one on Quinpool Road and the one on Barrington is not much good for selection of products. Jo Howe is not a bad one though. The Penhorn Sobeys is also reasonable. No Sears anymore although will see what goes up there. There is also a few good used stores - Value Village near the Woodside Terminal, Goodies in Burnside and a Thrift store in East Dartmouth. Happy Harrys is another store there in the Burnside area and all these are places my dad and I go. I also like the Costco as its less busy than the one in Bayers Lake, aswell as the Home Depot which is less busy and offers somewhat better deals on things we buy

It's empty! Where is everyone? I live in Toronto, I'd kill to drive on a highway that empty!!

This was on a Sunday morning so that's probably why. I'm not from Halifax but I assume it can get pretty crammed on the 111.

As a Haligonian I'll fill you in TJ, Morning and afternoon rush hour can see medium and even heavy traffic, moving in both directions. However it has a slight bias, let's say 60/40 split towards Halifax, this is of course without accidents on the bridge or highway afterwards. If there is an accident you can expect significant delays, sometimes you're better off driving around the entire harbour.
@HalifaxHercules
@HalifaxHercules 7 лет назад
As a Halifax native, from my experience driving on the Circumferential Highway, the 8 to 10 lane sections between Exits 4 and 6 can have heavy traffic volumes throughout the day, especially during weekday rush hour periods.
@HalifaxHercules
@HalifaxHercules 7 лет назад
I'm originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia myself. I agree that traffic levels on the 8-10 lane sections of the Circumferential Highway can have heavy traffic volumes, and lane switching can be very difficult as other motorists have a tendency to get in the way. Highway 118's Dartmouth Crossing corridor is especially dangerous as their highway layout is a little confusing.

The widest motorways you get in the UK are 8 lanes wide (4 on each side with a hard shoulder).

The widest we have in the U.S. Is maybe 12 lanes on each side it gets hard to count though once you get past 5 lanes per side

Nice and NS Hwy 111 seems to be 4-10 lanes wide like I-5 in San Diego and LA metro area and northeastern US highways like I-93 Concord NH, to Boston, MA I-84 Hartford, CT area I-95 Florence NJ to Boston, MA via Bronx, NY New Haven, CT & Providence, RI. Not Sure if you are going to film highways in the United States particularly NH,ME,MA & CT those states are 4-7 hours from New Brunswick via Houlton, ME border crossing start point of I-95 (NJ Turnpike NYSTA New England Thruway NYSDOT Cross Bronx Express Way MD SHA / Del dot JFK Memorial Hwy Delaware Turnpike Penndot Vietnam Veterans Highway NHDOT Blue Star Turnpike & Maine Turnpike)

+Freeway Tim it's ironic that the Canadian city that is the most well known to non-Canadians, Toronto, is probably the least covered. We've got road videographers living in New Brunswick, Quebec, Manitoba (myself), A few guys from Alberta. But not so much from Southern Ontario.

Trans-Canada Highway...Each province also has its own Provincial Highways...In Nova Scotia the 100-Series highways are the freeways/highways that take you around the province. Ontario, for example, has the 400-series highways, which are a similar thing.

Nice one, Tim. One thing, though, is that Dartmouth and Halifax aren't separate cities anymore. Dartmouth is officially a community in the Halifax Regional Municipality. It's cool seeing somebody else's video from the area :)
@FreewayTim

I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for letting me know. I've done a bit of research
@keisuketakahashi8194
@keisuketakahashi8194 8 лет назад
There are a lot people who grew up in Dartmouth still think of Dartmouth as being a city rather then a suburb of Halifax, it's a small part of the whole passive agressive feud between Halifax and Dartmouth.
