Shownotes: talkingscripture.org
01:10 - Jesus came just in time to save the righteous from death.
12:20 - The sacred relics are no longer in the stewardship of the chief judge and are taken away into the priestly line, perhaps indicating the beginning of societal breakdown.
20:23 - Trust that Jesus will fulfill every whit of every promise He has given.
21:11 - Once you have light, beware of the temptation to doubt it.
24:59 - Some of the Nephites start to defect and massive wickedness starts growing just 4 years after the sign.
26:00 - Commentary on 3 Nephi 2.15-16. The marking of cultural separation was removed when they began to have faith in Jesus.
28:01 - Utter destruction of a people can happen by taking away their religious values, identity, and culture.
28:59 - The letter to Lachoneus illustrates some tactics of the adversary to get us to walk away from our covenants: Flattery, sowing seeds of doubt, threats, boasts of strength, guilt, fake sincerity, acceptance into a group.
36:31 - The ways Lachoneus and his people defend themselves is a type for our day: They don’t take council from their fears, cry unto the Lord, gather together, build fortifications, set guards round about, repent, follow their leaders, protect the family, and are strong with armor of God.
44:18 - Avoid being the aggressor in war and initiating the conflict.
46:20 - In 3 Nephi 4.7 the Gadianton robbers were girded about with a lambskin dyed in blood. They were taunting their enemies or perhaps even mocking the Nephites.
48:01 - What is the Greek name Lachoneus doing in the Book of Mormon? Eric Cline, professor of Classics and ANE studies demonstrates cultural mixing from Greece to Palestine in 1177 B.C.
52:25 - With just 5 years left before Jesus comes again, there are few righteous among them. We should be careful to not lose blessings in the final moments.
1:02:08 - There is no inequality in God’s kingdom.
1:07:03 - Mormon describes what it is like to be a scribe and also a prophet. He promises that God will restore and gather his people.

Love the Christmas story!! Wow, such a beautiful way to adapt this to our families. Super application of the letter from Satan and the many ways he tries to tempt us! In the strength of The Lord please continue this great effort! Thank you also for the insight about this being their ark of the covenant treasures. So many valuable insights!! Thank you so very much!

In this discussion, starting at chapter 5 verse 1. You are discussing their righteousness 15 years prior to Christ returning after his resurrection then going on to how they came SO close but they turned back to their wickedness. Did they know a timeframe of Christ’s resurrection like they knew of Christ’s birth?

So I had a thought while pondering this weeks CFM, and I shared it on another CFM lesson, and was curious what you two know and think. Pondering the idea of being cursed and having “dark skin” being righteous and having “light skin” I simply googled (dangerous I know🙃) the meaning of the word skin in Hebrew and found this: “Psalm 104:2 says, “The LORD wraps himself in light as with a garment.” The actual clothing of God is “light.” The Hebrew word for “light” is also pronounced ore. רא “Ore” Strong’s 216 - light רע “Ore” Strong’s 5785 - skin” So my thoughts are it’s not the actual skin as we interpret in modern language that becomes dark or light, but the “Ore” of God within us all that either becomes bright/white in our righteousness, or dark as we are cursed and separate ourselves from God and therefore the light/“skin” Ore goes dark. Just my random pondering thought? Not critical to my faith and can totally put this on the “to be revealed” and understood later shelf! I also remembered that as a child I could see, particularly in Sacrament meeting or other Church worship, a light outlining and surrounding people. By 9 or 10, I could no longer see this “aura”(Ore?) and wondered why. Just curious, not essential to my testimony. Just wondering if you have any thoughts or insights.🙂

Amy I like this, we certainly have a pun happening in the Genesis narrative where Adam and Eve are clothed in light, only to be then clothed in "skin"... words that sound the same. There is a tradition that both Adam and Eve were clothed in light prior to the Fall. To me, this tradition fits because the Garden (to me) represents our home before we came here. We lived in God's presence, as Adam and Eve "walked with God." So the garment of light fits, hence the punning (or at least half the pun, our Bibles have been edited heavily). Here is some commentary on this: Similarly holy, according to the Zohar, was the Garden of Eden. We are not to imagine that prior to the "garments of skin" made by God for Adam and Eve, they were utterly naked. On the contrary, their original garb, like that of Aaron in the Tabernacle, consisted of light, in consonance with the purity of their earthly paradise. In Hebrew the words for light and skin are homonyms, both pronounced 'or but spelled differently, light with an alef and skin with an ayin. That linguistic kinship enabled the Zohar to soar: by sinning, Adam and Eve had their garments of celestial light replaced by "garments of skin," which merely protected but no longer illuminated. Indeed, it was not their exterior but their interior which had mutated. Beyond paradise, there was neither comfort nor security nor wisdom (Zohar, II, 229a-b). The ethereal light that made everything humanly comprehendible had dimmed. You can read the rest of the commentary here: www.jtsa.edu/the-garments-of-adam-and-eve

Talking Scripture Thanks so much for the extra insight. It’s been very “enLIGHTing”😉 There’s just sooo much in the scriptures to understand, and it really requires the Spirit of Revelation as we learn by study and faith.
