This video has been needed for a long time. Couldn’t find anything like this when I first started. Newbies rejoice, your lives just got less complicated. Nice job, CD!
Great! And thank you! I agree with you... When I first started in FPV I could not find anything that explained stuff in simple terms since I was starting from ZERO. Hopefully this video series gets more people into the FPV hobby.
You're amazing Captain Drone, every time I have questions related to fpv drones and I type it in youtube, your video always is the #1 result, We fpv beginners are so lucky to have you, Thank you and keep posting videos like this.
You do very well Captain Drone!!! I don't have enough time to always watch your videos directly now, but I like them a lot and try to watch them all👍👍👍. A lot of people are going to thank you for this series, of course! Great👏
Very informative, Iv just started getting into fpv after years of wanting to, just got a controller to use on a simulator before building a drone which has a lipo battery, tbh lipo’s put fear in me they’re going to burn my house down! I will be getting lipo safe storage bags for battery storage. It’s amazing how far ahead I was researching only to go backwards to learn about battery’s and charging. You really simplified how to understand lipo battery’s. Thanks 👍
I’m brand new to this fpv world I’ve been so confused on the battery situation. This is by far the best video I’ve seen on batteries thank you, I now get it!😂
I am really enjoying this series. I am a camera drone pilot and been wanting to break into the FPV world. this helps so much. Ordering my stuff as you go along with the series. Thanks Steve.
Rick Britton, Wow,CAPTAIN DRONE, that was great information, that really help me understand, thank you for taking the time to help ,first time drone hobbyist. Sincerely Rick from Mo and God bless you and your family
Hi Captain Drone I really like how you simplify everything in your videos, I’m a big fan. I also enjoy how much effort you put into teaching what you know about FPV flying including the many different drone types from small to large. Thank you for helping me decide to get back into flying it’s been a while for me due to the demands in my busy life. I’m also hoping to retire @ the end of this year woohoo!
Charging bags are just LIPO storage bags. If you are near the charger, you really don't need them for the charging process. If you watch my series on CAPTAIN DRONE'S FAVORITE THINGS you'll see how I store my lipo batteries since I have over 75 of them.
@@JK-ug7rm Any product that you find that is listed as LIPO BATTERY safe will work. Please note that such bags are not fireproof, but they will certainly contain the fire for a significant period of time allowing you to toss the bag or put the fire out.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 I have money to burn so I got a 6s. But I also am learning using a Inductrix FPV Plus which I have crashed a bunch of times. I actually ordered a new frame for it because it's cracked in 4 places. I am hoping that little drone will help me fly a bigger more powerful drone better. I guess we will see! These videos are great!
I have really enjoyed your series on FPV. It is definitely something I should have ventured into a while ago. But Covid has killed my disposable income and sorry to say all my external hobbies. Therefore I live the dream through you and others... Thank you.
nice vid again steve ive got a mate thats just come into our hobby ive sent him to watch you fpv vids to save me some time and it is working now i get capt drone says this capt drone says that lol love it have a great day steve
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 so true its the best im in the middle of building an x class at the moment 13 inch frame f7 fc 60amp 4in 1 and some big ole 2810 750kv motors things going to be sweet
Great FPV beginner series. It would be helpful for a first time purchaser that you recommend an Analog or Digital FPV setup to start flying (FPV drone, controller, google, etc). I personnel would pick analog to keep the cost down. Enjoy your channel.
I always get batteries from Hobby King when they go on sale. There is always a $30 shipping charge and I order extra gear to the max weight limit, another plane and tools, some rolls of 3D Print PETG or PLA when on sale also.
loving this series - specifically this video, just got a second hand FPV kit and was wondering what the hell the information on the battery packaging meant
This already answered a bunch of questions. But I still have one, which I wouldn't mind seeing a review: how long does a battery take to charge up? This influences the amount of time you can fly the drone. Each flying session you go alone or with friends, for how long do you fly? You replace batteries every 5 minutes? Can you have a set of 10 batteries, plus the charger, and recharge 2 while you're flying, and then reuse those?
In the RC Hobby, you can select the time a battery takes to charge. Most people will buy quality batteries so that they can charge them much faster when necessary. Now if you are used to Camera Drones that come in a box with a supplied charger, then your mind may be thinking that you are stuck with waiting hours for a battery to charge.
I wish you all a nice day! I think this also shows the essence of the batteries perfectly correctly! You get a huge like in every picture! I wish everyone more successful video recordings and flying strength, health to everyone!👆🌞👍🎮🥽✈️
I think its pretty straight forward with the awesome explanation you gave on how to set the charger up correctly for your lipo. I'm new so just to be clear for me, I have a SMC 6s 22.2V 4000mAh 120C lipo, so for the amperage I would input 4 amps? I have that Gens Ace charger (from your other video) which is awesome.
Correct. 4 amps is fine. Since your lipo is 120C you could even go higher like 5 or 6 amps if you are in a hurry. Just never leave such a large battery unattended when charging.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Awesome, thank you! Now as im learning more and more about lipos and recharging them i've seen a few videos saying that if you go lower on the amps to slow the charge rate it helps preserve the lipo? Whats your thoughts on that?
Hey cap.. do you ever look at your collection of drones and cant decide what one to fly that day? What is your absolute favorite. Not best... but favorite.
I wish I watched this before I bought my battery because I ordered a emax hawk pro 6s ,the battery 🔋 I ordered is 1050mAH 120c I would have ordered a 1300mAH battery I hope the battery 🔋 I've ordered will still work.👊 I love the channel so educational the reason why I bought the emax hawk pro is because I watched the video on this particular drone
Great video, thank you. New to FPV and just ordered a GEPRC CineGO (4S battery). The battery connector is an XT30. Can you provide a recommendation on a 2-channel smart charger for XT30 connectors? The majority appear to be XT60. If that’s my only option, do I simply use an XT60 to XT30 adapter? If so, can you provide a recommendation because I know there are a lot of options (wires, no wires, etc.). Lastly, I prefer not to use a parallel board. Thanks in advance!
This is a Beginner video series. Items like Battery Sag are items not required until someone knows how to fly great and then wonders why the drone lacks performance. There are too many Beginner FPV Videos on RU-vid that are just terrible because they include so much information from the point of view of an expert pilot.... Just scrambles the brain of someone learning everything for the first time.
Sleeping Bear is it hard because I want the dji stuff in it. Thinking titan x5 or dc3. The googles and remote I can get for 800 dollars from banggood. If I buy it in Sweden 1300 dollars 👎🏻
@@fopp1 in America bangood takes a long time. Plus we have allot of options.. and I've heard other parts of the world banggood is the best. Dji backs there products. That's a big price difference.. I've always got what I ordered from banggood. But as far as warranty issues. I wasn't happy. But wasn't a reputable product i bought. As far as the bird..I would build. Your going to have to learn how to solder sooner or later. But I do understand why one would want a BNF too. So on that note. The 5 inch titan is way better! And easier to fix when or if you have too. If haven't flew much.. you'll break the DC3. And those small stacks ( flight controller and esc) are hard to solder on. So 5 inch way better. It's not hard at all to solder.. but I work construction so good with hands. But I could teach anybody how too. Any other questions just ask. God bless and have a greatday!
Sleeping Bear ok thx haven’t order yet from bangbro only tech from AliExpress and happy with there products. Ok I will order the 5 inch but will wait to January when I have the cash and hope the prices will drop when it’s of season
That sounds like a plan! Until then watch videos.. get to know a few pilots that fly everyday.. I go though 30 pacs a day. Sometimes 50 these are the guys who fly. And know what it takes..have a few friends from your country. Oh with that in mind if you find a local group of guys?? That's the best help! 💪💪👊👊
Great Video!! If i have a 1400mAh 22.2V 6S1P Lipo Battery Pack with XT60 Connector, could i use DJI FPV AC Power adapter to charge it? DJI FPC power adapter is the one i use to charge my DJI FPV drone battery. Please advise. Thanks.
I'm new to FPV, still learning, and find your video is a lot easier to follow and informative. Could you talk about parallel charging if I want to charge multiple batteries at the same time?
Hi Steve. Thank you for this video. If a drone has the option for 4S and 6S, should I choose the 6S version when ordering? And should I start learning to fly with 4S batteries, then move on to 6S when I am more experienced and want more power/speed? Thanks again for all the time and effort you put into these videos.
I would recommend to beginners to select a 4S drone and fly with 3S batteries. 6S drones have much lower KV motors and they do fly well with a 4S battery but I do find that the 4S is too much for a beginner and if you put a 3S battery on a 6S drone it sometimes flies strange, so that is why I would recommend the 4S drone with a 3S battery. Your choice.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 All right, will go with the 4S version then. Any suggestion on the Lipo battery brands? I see you seem to like the Ovonics, but there does not seem to be a lot of them in the 3S voltage (found one with 80C, 1800 mAh on Amazon.ca). Most are 50C or even lower.
Very awesome and informative video, thank you for that ! I have a quick question regarding "c rating" of batteries... if you are a quad racer, you normally use a high rated "c" lipo... If you enjoy long distance slow flight for longer flight times, you use a low "c" rating... In regards to long distance slow flight for longer flight times, can you use a high "c" rating lipo and use low throttle on the quad to get the same flight time as a low "C" rating lipo ?
The "C" rating on the battery is also equal to the price of the battery. The higher the "C" rating the higher the price. This is why if you are not racing a drone or doing crazy freestyle, then a low "C" rating is fine and you save money. You can certainly place a high "C" rating battery on a long range drone but if you never use the extra power "punch" it has, then you are spending more money for little effect.
Awesome video! Now me as a beginner wondering why my charger stopped charging my 5000mah battery at 3000ma? I have not configured any limits on the charger but I did the mistake only setting the charging current to 2A…
I know this is old, so not super confident in a response, but here goes. Do you have a breakdown of how much you can push Amps based on C ratings? What the recommended safe min C is for fast charging (10A a 5000mAh , for example)?
C rating is not the best item to go with as most are false. However, modern battery technology is very good construction wise. Now if you have a 5000 mAh lipo battery, you’d need a really good charger to push 10 amps. But to answer your question, if you wanted to push 10 amps into a 5000 mAh battery then it would be best that the battery was 50c or higher.
Always charge the batteries in Balance charge mode. They way that was demonstrated dose not use the balance cable. When using the Balance charge mode the battery is charged and balanced at the same time.
Hi Steve! Have a quick question. I have pulled the trigger on a complete digital setup thanks to this series of videos (thank you and great job) but my question is what is a good rule of thumb or how do you know when it’s time to land before you ruin a battery? Do you watch the voltage in the dji Google’s? Thank you for taking the time out of your day to respond.
In the DJI GOGGLES the VOLTAGE turns RED in the bottom right, which means you are sucking too much power or it is time to land. If worried about batteries, then get yourself a tiny timer that you can stick on your radio and set it for 3 minutes. Land at 3 minutes if unsure. The worst that can happen if you fly for too long is that the LOW VOLTAGE CUT OFF will engage and the drone will drop out of the sky, or you diminish your battery and it swells up and becomes unusable.
Great video series! I'm just getting into the hobby. Where do you recommend buying batteries and what makes a good battery. Also any recommendations for 18650 batteries for goggles and radio?
Buy your batteries at your local hobby store or on AMAZON. For 18650 batteries, again buy from AMAZON or from the link I posted under the Episode I did about Radios.
When I buy 18650 batteries for my Jumper T16 controller which mAh size should I purchase? There are several sizes on Amazon and I don't see any specifications in the paperwork. Would the same size of mAh apply to to my new Fat Shark Attitude V5 that I just bought as well? Love the series! Thank you.
Great series of information. Can you please tell me, if we arrange batteries in parallel. The volt will remain same and ampere will increase? If so the motors will fry? I am bit confused here. Kindly put some light on this issue.
On an FPV Drone... why would you wish to use multiple batteries? On tiny whoops, there are many that use two 2s batteries in series to create a 2S battery (twice the voltage), but I've never seen anything higher than this.
I always place links to every product shown in a video within the VIDEO’S DESCRIPTION. If you don’t know what that is… look at the video, then look below it and you should see a Down arrow or an option to SHOW MORE to EXPAND the bottom of the video (below the title). Every video on RU-vid places import information here.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 thanks - I've checked and checked -- I see the list of some tools to remove screws and props, gear you use for your videos, software, Vlogging cameras... lots of other stuff. Just can't see any listings for the chargers. I found them in your other video: Episode 6. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ERtlxV1hgv0.htmlsi=MFHkg19uMLRblKbe if anyone else is looking. thanks for all the info!
Somewhat relevant. Just do a search on my RU-vid channel for battery chargers, then pick the one that has the features you need without being too complicated for your level of understanding.
Great video Captain 😁 Can lipo batteries be left in storage fully charged or do they need to be discharged. I read that DJI batteries self discharge because they're smart batteries?
If you watch my series entitled MY FAVORITE THINGS you'll see how I store my lipo batteries.... spoiler alert, they are in Lipo Bags which are inside AMMO CANS. I always charge up my lipo batteries for FPV the night before I head out to fly. If I don't use all the batteries, I just store them in the item noted. If I won't be using them for a week, then I place them in storage mode (discharge down to storage). Lipo batteries are at their most potential to cause an issue (fire) when they begin to bloat & are fully charged, if damaged from an FPV Drone crash, and if over charged. Lipo batteries are more safe today than in the past which is why they are in pretty much every electronic device you own & shippers like postal service, courier service, will accept them for transport, and in addition you can take them on a plane with you. So for your own piece of mind, store them in LIPO BAGs at minimum.
Update: Captain Drone inspired me to buy a Mavic Mini. So my phone wasn't compatable. So I ordered a galaxy S6 that I will use for just the drone. I just recieved a set of Yagi silicone brass antenna boosters, and silicone prop holders. My s6 arrives friday as well as a new grey camo skin.. oh AND today I just ordered the aluminum replacment joysticks.. they look amazing... I'm going accessory crazy haha. .. BUT until the new used phone arrives I thought I couldn't fly the mini... I was wrong. U can use controller only. By powering both on and holding the sticks diagonal down and in or out. It is limited in its height and range for the time being but seeing that I can't see the cameras view live right now I wouldn't want it to go out of sight anyway so it'll hold me over for this week I'm just basically flying it around really close to me using controller only to get the hang of it my S6 will get here along with the skin on Friday and I'll be able to take it out for real but I highly recommend the latex prop holders and the yagi boosters I feel like I have all the accessories I need to make this thing amazing I just wanted to say thank you to Captain drone for his educational videos because they not only help seasoned veterans out but they help the new guys out as well and it's a much-needed thing to have a friendly face that you can trust thank you man
simple and fast, but how much can you push the charging amprage in relation to the C number of the battery? I know that if you increase the charging amps it will take less time to charge. thanks Steve.
The higher the "C" rating, the more you can push. So if you have a battery with a "C" rating of 100, you'd be very safe charging a 1300 mAh battery at twice the normal charge. So jumping up from 1.3 Amps to 2.6 Amps, which would potentially charge the battery in half the time. Only do this if you are in a hurry and never leave the battery unattended.
Yes because this is a BEGINNER series. In ever episode there are easily over a hundred more things I could speak about, but I don't because I want to keep this at the BEGINNER level and not scare people off. Unfortunately if you check RU-vid you'll find that each time someone tries to explain the FPV Hobby, it gets bogged down with too many rabbit holes talking about to many unnecessary items that the total beginner does not need to know until such time that they are in the hobby and enjoying it.
Oh I absolutely get that and honestly I'm watching your videos because I am one of them. I ask only because balancing your batteries, in my opinion, is not a "nice to know" topic and more of a safety concern. Seeing that the topic was charging lipo batteries for newbies, I thought it may be worthy of a quick explanation if nothing else. I was really hoping it was simply an oversight. Thanks again for all your hard work. To do these as well as you do must truly be a labor of love and it's appreciated.
Kurt Simmons Sorry, I thought you were referring to charging multiple batteries with a parallel board. When you charge a battery on these chargers the cells are balanced... you do not have to balance the separately like in the olden days. The only thing you will do with a charger is Charge or Store. The 3rd item of Discharge is rarely needed. If you watch my review on any specific battery charger I show and explain how all the different options work.
Disagree Steve.. building a drone is best. You'll have to fix sooner or later. And for the buck you can build better and cheaper.. soldering is easy.. little practice you'll be good.
@@sleepingbearffg5008 Unfortunately not for a BEGINNER FPV series. Just imagine.... Episode one. Buying a soldering iron. Episode two... Buying the right type of solder. Episode three...
