The loss of any of our fur friends hurts, That said remember all the good times and know the love for you was unconditional. as for the prop blasting can be "fun" regardless of the medium used. Take your time and keep the nozzle moving to prevent drilling holes. It is looking good so far.

Sand blasting takes a huge volume of air. Gotta keep stopping to let the pressure build back up. Also, before putting on epoxy, clean with acetone. I see you keep running your fingers over the surface, leaving body oil there.

We've lost several cats (and dogs). We recently adopted and older calico. We have been giving her the best we can so that she can enjoy her golden years. Her biggest health issue was poor dental hygiene before she came to us. She is also very timid. But from the day she came to us, she has purred immediately when we pat her. She joins us anytime we get into bed (we're old and make frequent nocturnal visits to the WC. She does it even in the day. Under our bed is her "safe place". Yes, we try to give her the care and love needed so she has a happy life. The day after tomorrow, I will need to get her into her travel carrier (which she hates) to visit the vet for some more deep dental cleaning. Fortunately, the vet has given me some 100 mg capsules of gabapentin that is a sedative for her. She has begun to suspect that I will be up to something - i.e. another travel carrier episode! Memories of your cat joining in your projects will live on.

@@TheDigitalMermaid - Our 15 year old, recently adopted by us, needed some oral surgery due previous poor dental care. While there, the vet identified a dermal mast stem tumor. At the moment things appear "okay". Waiting for the biopsy. But the dermal tumor has been there since she came to live with us 18 months ago. Knowingly adopting an older pet that will eventually have health problems, our goal has always been to enjoy her company while giving her the things needed for her to enjoy life each day. Eventually., that day will come. We hope to stave it off for a very long time.

I would try to restore the prop blades with a tin or with tin-lead(antifouling effect) solder. In addition, tin coating protects well against corrosion.

I thought about lead after someone else suggested silver, but then, adding lead will make it harder to deal with, shaving it down to profile. I'll probably stick with the epoxy, if only for the science of it.

One thing about epoxy... Most produce a waxy covering when they set ("amine blush")... Paint on this and NOTHING sticks you can wash it off with detergent. (We had to deal with this when we built Befur's hull)Which is strip-plank with epoxy cladding.

As others suggested look at renting a bigger air compressor, regading the silver solder that may be too hot as you're ment to heat the metal enough that contact with the solder stick will melt. What about electrical or plumbing solder if the epoxy doesn't work out? My deepest sympathies for Mr Tatter may he have longer life with an equally kind and good servant ❤ on his next journey

For the prop pitch matters. lower pitches like 14 is for torque and 18 is for more speed I seen pitches go all the way up to 23. Find what pitch gets you to the speed you need with extra so if you have a current against you, you can still move forward.
@TheDigitalMermaid
@TheDigitalMermaid 2 месяца назад
Aye, exactly. The tests I plan to run will run the boat up to 3, 4, 5 and 6kts on the 5kw and 10kw motors (well, I doubt the 5kw will reach 6kts). I'll monitor the motor/prop RPM, input power and the time needed to reach the target speed. I'll also be doing these with 2.5, 3, 3.5 and 4 to 1 pulley rations. Very much excited to make those graphs! I'm hoping to be able to really dial-in the ideal.
@dc1544
@dc1544 2 месяца назад
@@TheDigitalMermaid You know those props tht you reverse then switch to forward to get overdrive pitch all that is is a higher pitch which lowers the engines rpm's. I bet 16-18 will be a good pitch for you. Remember you want to use as little battery as possible to move your boat. So test it to see where you reach 5 knots at least amount of kw used. go the same distance each test. This is not about time but about distance. It is time but you want to know how far you can go on say 5kw of battery used with no solar coming in.

Sorry about the kitty! ❤ Compressor - you should blast/pause/blast/pause in a rhythm so that the compressor sometimes turn off. Then you have the good pressure. Two motors: is the added complexity worth it? Can you add the second one, later maybe? I’m thinking - why not do a one-motor setup to start with, to learn from? You’ll probably redo something anyway, after some test runs 😊

@20:20 If you can still hold the metal, it's not hot enough to affect it's temper in any way. Unless you're a superhero or someone with nerve issues. 🙂 And, yeah.. walnut shells are great for removing paint and light-to-medium corrosion, but it won't affect the metal at all. Sorry. If you decide you want to do more sandblasting, an auxiliary tank can give you a bit more work time. Of course, the recharge time is longer, too, so you'll have to judge if it's worth the extra $40-50 for the tank to get another minute or two per pressure charge.
@TheDigitalMermaid
@TheDigitalMermaid 2 месяца назад
Aye, I figured just that; I was holding it, so it couldn't be too hot. If I decide I am going to do more, like with the hull work, then I'll bite the bullet and buy the Makita one that does 6gpm at 90psi, that should be enough to let me run continuously, thought it's like $700cad. Still though, my neighbour needs a tank and he helps me all the time, so I can give it to him when I move out of the house and I'll know it'll get lots of use.

i hate to preach, but, i really hate anything wire brush, i find them to be rubbish or end up rubbish after just a short time of use, and that's from normal wire brushes to rotary, they end up so bent up and distorted, and most folk think that pressing harder and harder will make them work better, and then the odd piece of wire flicks off, and sometimes into your face, hence the invention of safety goggles i am a true convert to the Nylon Filament Wheels, they are nylon as suggested, and have a wire fleck wound round each nylon strand, use in a power drill for speed, AND DO NOT APPLY so much pressure, these work best at speed and less pressure, they are great for sanding around rivets and anything light/soft and metallic and WILL NOT wear the metal surface away - i used to restore old Land Rovers and aircraft and the normal practice was to sand everything with an orbital sander and then drill out all the damaged rivets and replace with new, such a waste - at least with a filament wheel, you cut that process out and you can use these wheels very safely on soft metals, brass, ally, copper, bronze etc etc without wearing metal out, primarily these are very good for polishing and will save you so much in the end, they make mincemeat of paint and underseal as well as rust and corrosion but remember use at speed and not pressure, if you press too hard the nylon strands will bend, distort and rapidly fly off which is why a lot of people think they might be rubbish, and for safety, you can run over your hand without serious injury, over the years i have seen some nasty injuries
@TheDigitalMermaid
@TheDigitalMermaid 2 месяца назад
Can't say I'm a fan of wire brushes either, though this nylon one seemed to do a decent job. I didn't have to apply much pressure, which is shown by the simple fact it didn't get toooooo hot.
