Hopefully, some of you can find this useful. The ability to lift heavy objects with three poles and a hoist can come in very handy in a variety of situations.
Chain Hoist I have in this video

I also recommend a strap.

This is how I hoist move, load and unload huge boulders into my little truck after they tumble down the mountain onto the logging/fishing roads. I use a logging grapple to pinch the boulders. Works great!

It would be safer to have the chain above the block looped over the three legs, that way everything is in compression. With the block hanging off the rope you have introduced a tension element ie the rope can break.

Yup, just made one to move some boulders and did exactly this.

I'd probably have used some sort of stake, stakes, or stakes and a brace, to keep the legs from slipping out. Getting by with no brace depends heavily upon a specific soil type, moisture, compactness, rockiness, and level slope, etc., and a good deal of luck. A more general solution would involve various types of bracing. Even a quick and dirty solution, like a 3-4" branch brace and a 1.5-2" stake on either side. Not complex. Spend 5 minutes on safety to avoid or reduce the risk of a possibly fatal, disabling, or costly accident, to me, that's worth 5 minutes every time.

The only thing to spoil the video was a new hoist - i expected an old fashioned rope block and tackle.

That si what i thought , toooo wide, wrong angle, but good idea. I am going to rig a cable between the tree’s and use a snatch block
@TrustinTimber
@TrustinTimber 3 года назад
Yeah, good idea. I’m doing vertical posts so I needed something I could centre and hold steady, but I think I’ll rig something like you described for some of the higher horizontal pieces.

Hey man! Love your videos, it’s been awesome to see someone else also putting effort in production value ❤️‍🔥 And thanks for the headpiece idea how to get some control with the hair 😂
@adventurepawsdogtraining436
Great video thank you. What are the horizontal timbers attached between two trees in the background used for? They’re above head height.. curious me. Thank you

@@TrustinTimber I posted a comment for you just 15 min ago Please look at my you tube log cabin building-step by step laying up the logs and the log cabin building-tour My logs were much heavier then yours and my crane would really help you Feel free to contact me if you have a question dave

@@davidlange7916 Hi David, I watched you video. Great minds think alike. I had actually designed something similar for a crane. I talk about it in my cabin model video. I was going to make it but I though I would try this first. It looks a bit sketchy here on my first trial run but it’s been working pretty well for me. I’m building post and beam so my fill logs won’t be very heavy as yours.
