I know this is an old video, but I’m relatively new to the channel. Fantastic collection you’ve accumulated. Having the right tool, for the right job, is invaluable. I used to store all my blades, in the same fashion, for many years. Was always very conscious of the blades, but wouldn’t you know it, one night, I buried a #11 in the meat of my inner forearm lol. Ever since, they all lay flat in a Plano 3700 tackle box. I glued a block of extruded polystyrene into the end of the tray, on the blade end , to avoid the tips hitting the hard plastic. Only takes a fraction of a second, for something dumb to happen 🤷♂️
Your monologue at the end touches on a key aspect of life (especially within hobbying) that a lot of us forget about- you can always make more money, you can never make more time so anything that saves you time without sacrificing outcome is worth your money.
Tools are a big part of the enjoyment in models making. Finding the right one for the right job is priceless and make the hobby more fun. I love your dedication and thorough explanation, keep it that way.
Most stuff from pound shop Sandpaper stick = Lolly pop stick custom to your size : Double sided foam tape ( from wife's card making supplies ) and some sand paper grit is up to you. Lolly pop £1 @100 sticks : double sided tape £1 for 3 tape roll and 3 square pads : sandpaper £1 10 sheets various grits. Scribe tool dental pick £1 .A ball end tool = knitting needle and beads of various sizes plus glue. doing these got me started and I still use these. I also custom make tools to my specs. The sandpaper stick if you need a more supple ( floppier ) use plastic strip instead of lolly pop stick. What works for one person doesn't mean it'll work for all. Beads try thrift shop that sell jewellery they always have stuff you can modify to your needs.
Another great video Will ! I'm in the Dental lab business and a modeler and was amazed at how many of my favorite tools and thought processes we share. Keep them coming !
Thank you, this was really helpful to me. I shall be using this vid (and others by you and some other modellers) as reference for when I re-start my model making hobby. Thanks again :)
I'm a new subscriber- found you via my recomended channel list. I'm new to scale modelling also. Fantastic chanel and this video in particular. Found some items and brands that I may get based on this tour! Love it!
Took me three days, but I managed to get through.Glue loopers now on order. Funny to see how many things we have in common and differ from completely.Good stuff bud
Place corks or balsa offcuts onto your knife blades, one day they are going to bit you ! stay safe, great series I love your in depth coverage, model building has become a science with so many specialised products, white tak is my saviour for my old wobbly hands to holds things in place.
Nice video. I like tools too. I have that same light. Love it. Everyone has there own concoction of airbrush cleaner but the only thing I clean my airbrush acrylic paints is alcohol (91%). I only have to use very little of it and then rinse with windshield washer fluid. I found the washer fluid doesn't clean as well. I get the alcohol for just a couple of bucks at CVS and other places that sell pharmaceutical stuff.
Old vid, but for sanding tools I cut of the brushing parts of an old toothbrush, then glue some foam or polystyrene to it, then glue some grinding paper to it, this way I can make them from 80 grid up to 2400 if I need to. Making your own sanding tools the way the store sell them isn't to hard either, same procedure.
Yes, model master paint bottles are HORRIBLE. I need a pipe wrench and cheater bar just to get the top off and I have to pulverize the globs of metallic pigments at the bottom just to get it to spray. Glad I used my last bottle. Vallejo metallics are da BOMB!
I use sharp pointed tweezers to get decal with paper backing out of water but find they are too sharp to push the decal around on the surface especially if they are old
I know my comment is late. Thank you for your insight on Alclads non aqua clears. I used their semi gloss on a P51, and I couldn't figure out why it was still tacky days later. I assumed it was lacquer, but it's enamel. Those bastards.
Hey, fantastic to see your cave in details! could you tell me what exatly is that multi jar opener that have lots of dents in what seems to be 3 diamethers? does it opens smal and bit tamiya / gunze jars?
first of all great video.. I have been trying to find the xacto blade handles and can never find just the handle. I know you said amazon but i can't seem to find a box of just handles with out the blades.. Link?? THanks
Lol, I’m just seeing this 5 year old video, but I just left a comment, about my #11 blade puncture wound, as a result of using this method for too long, and having a moment of complacency
Two words. Just Awesome! Thanks for taking the time to create this video Will. I'm not sure how I missed this, as it's a few years old and I thought I had caught up with most of your videos. Extremely informative and insightful. I picked up the bag of pipettes from Amazon, along with several other hard to find items, like the Alec scrapers. Have you tried either the Alec or Ustar scrapers? Handy tools I use frequently for seam work. Easy to control without wrecking a lot of adjacent detail.
Hey buddy great video love your vids. i've bought many of the tool's you've showen and love them but am unable to find the right buffing wheels like you use they all have bad review's could you please send me the link to them. Thank's Matthew
I'll do that. I tend to use the smaller metal files than the one you showed and those things cake-up super quick and nothing I do seems to really clean 'em out well.
With love, I don't think that kind of camera is a particularly good choice since it shoots to interlaced format, which makes absolutely no sense on RU-vid.
you can buy all that crap directly form china via for example aliexpress - you save 50 / 60% $ , shipment is free obnly downside is that you have to w8 2 - 3 weeks. that exactos he has are like 1,5 - 2 $ , tweezer from 30 cents up , snips less than 2$ , that pencil holder with chuck is 3$ with bits.
You should spread a little glue on your upper lip, and why don't you just glue needles to the inside of your eyeglasses while you're ripping your arm or finger open. Don't be a primitive Pete points down please. you're scaring me. other than that good video.
If you know that you're incapable of dealing with the points being up without damaging yourself then good on you for self-awareness. But some people actually don't have that limitation.
