Your selection of video topics is rare comparing to other scale modeling videos on RU-vid and goes into detail. You nail it every time. Love it & appreciate the effort you put into it. I don`t know if you care or not, but you surely deserve more views and subs... Keep up the good work Will!
You can get decals with a removable film which just applies the graphic itself. Why doesn't every company do that? And is there anywhere to custom order them?
If you have painted the model with acrylics use a cotton bud dipped in white spirit and with a lot of patience remove the excess film. You will be amazed how well it works. Try it and make a video with this technik
Thanks for the video, I have used this in my Eurofighter using future and it worked well enough for me, so next time I’ll try the aquagloss to see if i can make better
How did you get that Academy decal to settle? I've been having some success with high heat from a hair dryer. What's your technique? Did you cover it in an earlier video?
I have had decals that had that discoloring and there is in fact something you can do about it. I just took a razor blade to it and cut out everything I did not want that was causing the discoloring and then took some solvent to loosen it up so I could remove it, leaving only the part of the decal I wanted to keep. Your method will work well for that process since it sometimes does not matter how sharp your blade is it can deform the edge being cut and still needs a process to lay it back down.
Dang it Will. You keep costing me money! :-) I had to order some of the sanding sponges. Previously I ordered sprue cutters and tweezers you'd recomended. Love them.
Admittedly, I don't do as much plastic modeling as I would like to or should, so maybe I'm not as educated as I should be regarding my question, but... Why not shoot the entire model with a Gloss Clear prior to decaling, then shoot the finish clear afterwards? Or is this technique specifically geared toward fixing visible edges afterwards?
My understanding and experience is that a gloss surface allows the decal to lay better (of course still using a setting solution as well) and then the clear overcoat eliminates the visible edge.
It is a bit hard to understand how you manage to sand off (or sand down) the “film” edge of the decal without sanding off any of the “colored” part of the decal that you want to keep.
NOPE, way too much time and trouble for such a small bit of difference. The fact that the carrier film still shows so much negates any positive results you might gain. That was just a small area, so multiply the time it would take for an entire model times all the models we build !
guess it depends what kind of results you want. good results usually take time. as for the film still showing, you must not have been paying attention. that doesn't always happen.
