In this interview I am joined by Buddhist teacher and doctor of Tibetan Medicine Dr Nida Chenagtsang and author and Buddhist teacher Justin Von Bujdoss.
Dr Nida and Justin discuss the esoteric Dzogchen practices of trekchö and tögal, and comment on their application to inner emotional disturbance and to times of external conflict and war.
Dr Nida and Justin extensively discuss the mysterious practice of dark retreat, in which the retreatant seals himself in complete darkness for days or weeks at a time, triggering powerful hallucinations which can be worked with using special techniques for spiritual advancement.
Dr Nida and Justin discuss the history of dark retreat, compares the differences in the various schools of its practice, warns of its dangers in terms of psychosis, and considers the potential it offers for attaining Buddhist enlightenment.
Dr Nida and Justin also explore themes of fixation, nationalism, translation, and spiritual trauma.

In living memory on our planet, the countries who declared themselves neutral in WWII were respected as places of peace. And Costa Rica disbanded it's army and spent all it's military budget on education and health and despite being surrounded by violent countries has never been invaded. They are the only country to have a University of Peace. It seems when you lie down. the fighters go away. Like the demons of Milarepa when he invited them in

Does Nida dismiss the importance of the Tibet v. China conflict as casually as saying "it's just two big rocks coming together" as is his opinion of Palestine v. Western colonialist Jewry?
@jamesogre6397
@jamesogre6397 9 месяцев назад
His comment is not dismissive. He’s explaining the practice of trekcho and that it should be used to transform our experience and the world. There are many stories of practitioners transforming the atrocities of the Chinese invasion using Dharma. This is the purpose of Dharma, to transform our perceptions, intentions, and experience in even the most difficult circumstances

My suggestion is to check the facts of history before naming Israel as Western colonialist Jewry. Also check the facts of History about what you call and refer to as Palestine. What about the Hamas Terrorist? I guess in your eyes they are legitimate freedom fighters, right? Please check online un biased sites to learn more about the history and facts of the Middle East. I guess you are not living in the area and you just fed from the news. You don't call this conflict Palestine vs. Israel but rather name Israel as colonialist/apartheid country. It sounds like you already established an opinion and you are biased. So just so you know: your accusation that Israel is an apartheid state is incorrect and malicious. It’s intended to demonize and delegitimize Israel. An honest look at the facts utterly destroys the Apartheid charges: Arab citizens of Israel enjoy the same rights and privileges as Jewish Israelis. Also as per calling Israel colonialist, better to check the historical facts also here. Israel has control over certain regions of the West Bank, but this is due to historical conflicts and in response to threats posed by groups like Hamas. The situation is complex and Israel retains the right to operate militarily in all zones for security reasons, especially given situations like the Hamas takeover of the Gaza Strip in 2007. Different regions are under varied levels of Israeli and Palestinian administration. You are welcome to explore the complex dynamics of the Gaza Strip, its tumultuous control by Hamas, Israel's peace efforts, and the challenges of life under Hamas's rule. www.ajc.org/news/tough-questions-about-gaza-answered

And for example, if Im aware of senses and recognise that there is only sensations aware of themselves (no me, no Big Self) there is only empty cognisance, like I cant find any I but I cant reject that knowingness of things, does it make any sense in Tibetan Buddism conceptual framework? Jhanas are conditioned concentration states. Rigpa is the direct knowladge of ones own basis, the recognition of the nature of your mind.

Thank you for sharing :). Interesting information, I’d have appreciated hearing in 2020 when I had only experienced a few five and seven day dark retreats and was in preparation for a 93 day kayakalpa dark retreat in India. Haha due to past karma or what, I’ve very much connected strongly with darkness and since then I’ve had another 89 day kayakalpa last year, a 49 day kayakalpa earlier this year and some smaller several week longs etc over these years. Though I consider myself very much a novice and definitely not a teacher, after last year’s 89 day I thought to share a few videos about my experiences, insights, best practices, cautions etc. Haha I intended a few videos but it turned into many. Here is that playlist if anyone is interested. Much Love ❤😊 ru-vid.com/group/PLytLvPVhgJlX_tXzKEW3oo1rrz7beBGYt&si=0rZT6sLIMXyODlUf

It's better not to discuss politics, or at least to conduct thorough research and educate oneself about the actual situation and how people truly feel and think. Otherwise, it can come across as merely eloquent Dharma teachings that don't apply to the harsh realities of people facing death, violence, and abuse. It's questionable whether advising victims of violence, such as those facing assault by Hamas-ISIS terrorists, to adopt a river like (not rigid/fixated) mindset is appropriate. Similarly, teaching Dharma to terrorists, like those from Hamas who have pledged to kill all Israelis as part of their ideology, seems impractical. In situations where over 200 people, including civilians, children, women, and the elderly, are kidnapped, it's challenging to suggest they practice Trekcho while being held captive. Or to their families and relatives... Also on Gaza, for those who are not terrorists actively fighting, still a war is over your head, hard to practice anything. BTW - This reminds me of a story where Buddha foresaw a murder on a ship and pre-emptively killed the would-be murderer to prevent the crime. This suggests that sometimes, the use of force may be necessary to avert greater future suffering.
