We arrive Concarneau Marina after dark, around 10pm and docked at Concarneau Marina next to Le Ville Close, not too far from Chiquita. Sergey actually met us outside of the entrance to the marina in their dingy to guide us in! Incredibly kind of him! He also recommended a good burger restaurant just across the street from the harbour. After a 13hr passage, it felt good to splurge on some good, hot food.
The next day, we explored the famous citadel together, with it’s clock tower and Closed City, connected to the harbour by a bridge. The small islet of “Le Ville Close” is the medieval Citadel of Concarneau, dating back to the 11th century. The only pedestrian access is the old drawbridge or ferry since it is nestled in a cove.
Within the walls is the oldest part of the city, a city within itself, with restaurants, chapels, shops and living spaces. Very unique that people actually live in such a historical place! This closed city didn’t get it’s name from Covid, but the epidemic did give the name a new meaning. It’s usually a bustling hotspot for tourists with it’s shops, museums and plethora of gourmet restaurants lining the cute cobblestone streets, but today was not only Sunday, but more importantly the 2nd nationwide lockdown…we only saw a handful of people, and to our surprise, 1 gourmet chocolate boutique was open!! They must have known I was coming 😉 Of course, I bought some delicatesses.
The Port of Concarneau was once a great fishing harbour. Nowadays it’s a famous sailing port for prestigious sailing competitions. Even though the seas were stormy out on the Bay of Biscay, it looked good enough for us to sail along the coastline south. We decided to stick with Chiquita who were planning on sailing southbound the next day. We sailed together to Quiberon and saw dolphins along the way.
Sailing with Chiquita, for a short while, was fun and getting a nice video from a distance from them was a perk!

5:10 They can talk for hours about how stable, spacious, and safe the catamaran is, but still the main attraction for me is THE TRAMPOLINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Concarneau is a wonderful old citadel, with all its stonework and shops. It's the place to be when pirates are spotted out in the bay! Heading down the coast again, evading the squalls, I'm glad you have a buddy boat. Friendly dolphins coming along, too! Hard to get used to that heeling, I can imagine. Several nice horizon shots in this episode, and the closing scene is gorgeous.

0:49 I think you forgot to raise the main sail. 😀 No automatic furler, huh? 🙂
@SailingELANE
@SailingELANE 2 дня назад
Yeah, I think there was a reason for that, but It's have to ask Eivind... No automatics on this boat, no😊
@Maloy7800
@Maloy7800 20 минут назад
@@SailingELANE Well, it's a small boat. I forgot but I think it was 43ft. Those rarely have automation. 😞 An in-mast furler is $10-20k, and an in-boom starts at 50k and goes all the way to the top of the mast. I think the in-boom on Oyster 885 is half a mil. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAA 😞

2:15 Oh my! Living in a place this old must be quite a nightmare. I hope they have sewage and heating. And remodelling must be "fun" - getting permission for every nail. And France's infamous bureaucracy makes it a special kind of hell. The view is amazing though. 🙂

I know it’s a chore but if you could post videos more often that’d be grrrrrreeeeaaaat! (If you’ve seen Office Space, you get the joke.)

Thanks for your interest, @RebelRobin501 🥰😊 And, yes- I agree...both about it being a chore and that I post too seldom. I enjoy making these videos, but it's been a battle trying to find the extra time for it. I will try harder to prioritize it, though. The trip just gets more exciting from here 👌😁😎👍🏻

Ummm why is your latest video out of date by errrrr 4 years???
@SailingELANE
@SailingELANE 2 дня назад
Hei @arrivingone👋 Thanks for your inquiry. To answer your question, we didn't want to use time while sailing to post the videos (difficult to prioritize while out on the water with limited access to internet, also). So, I decided to make them when we got home again. I've been working on them in between raising 3 boys, working, studying and training for a half marathon. I apologize for the inconsistency. But, the videos will come more often this summer. 🤞 The best is yet to come as we travel on to the Canaries, Cape Verde and the Caribbean. 🌞🏝️
