Māori singer-songwriter, Pere Wihongi (Te Rarawa, Te Aupōuri, Ngāpuhi) was only a tender 13 years of age when he tried to commit suicide. Fed up with the constant barrage of bullying because of his sexuality - he wanted a way out. The events that were to follow, and ultimately Pere choosing life, however, isn’t always the case for many indigenous men struggling themselves to come to terms with a sexual orientation some sectors of society sadly frowns upon. This is Pere’s story.
