Once you hear about the Nevis Road joining Cromwell and Garston the seed is planted and it will niggle away in the back of your brain until you ride it. The road is the highest unsealed public road in New Zealand, offering good quality easy enough for a road bike, but I’ve never tried crossing streams with road tyres so probably would recommend 50/50 tyres. The views are humongous and very spectacular. The Nevis ride has a special feeling about it that’s better left for you to experience your own way. Enough said. Thanks in advance for watching. If you enjoyed it please click the thumbs up and if you want notification when I upload my videos, give the bell a click too.

Thanks for the great video. I am planning a trip down that way at the end of February. I live in Geraldine and was thinking Mackenzie Pass - Black Forest Station to Benmore Dam - Little Omarama Saddle to St Bathans - Omakau. Thompsons Gorge Rd to Lindis Crossing and on to Cromwell and over the Nevis. Queenstown to Mt Nicholas Station and up to Mavora Lakes then on to Milford Sound - TeAnau - Manapouri and Old South Arm. Then out to the coast at Te Waewae - Cosy Nook - Riverton - Invercargill - Catlins and follow the coast as best I can to Tairi Mouth. If I have time then I will go back inland via Waipori and Old Dunstan Rd and visit Lake Onslow, Manorburn, and Poolburn Reservoirs then on through Patearoa to Kyburn. Over Danseys Pass and home. Got 10 days to do it.

Welcome to the channel Lester. 'Wow' you've done your home work and have chosen quite an epic route. The time spent researching will pay off big time. I wish you good weather and a great ride. I've been planning my February down there and checked out Adventureguide.co.nz and was blown away how many tracks and adventures I can download. Worth a look for your next adventure. By the way what are you riding?

'Jeeze' Steve I must be doing something right. It is gratifying for sure. I'mleaving for the Sth Island tommorrow morning 4th March. Pity you arn't accompaning me. I spent 4 solid days on a shovel digging Dan's 3 bikes out from beneath 2mtrs of river silt. It was tragedly heart breaking and sad. Sad because the BMW 650 was the bike he was going on the trip with me. He also had a Ducati Darma 900 and a Ducati Multistrada v twin in gorgeous order. The last place you saw me wasn't far from his house in Eskdale Park. The whole valley was levelled and what remains is 1.5 to 2.5 mtrs of river silt. Cheers mate will catch up with you upon my return.

The locked gate at Clyde takes you up to the Fraser River reservoir ... the Hawksburn is a right turn up past the lookout.

I have watched a few of your videos now and have subscribed. Would have come down earlier this year but could not trust the ferries so I keep on working. Hope I catch up with you one day.

Hi B F. Thanks for subscribing and welcome aboard, I appreciate your support. I think you were wise waiting until the ferrys sortedtheir crap out. I had two mates that left their bikes in Nelson and flew back north.

Going down the South Island mid March to Milford Sounds and back. Don't think I can fit in a Nevis ride. But think I'll put this as a target for next years South Island visit. Great video Darryl.

You will never regret it Howie. I am ok in Napier but my friends who were going to accompany me down south this March lost every thing. I spend 4 days on a shovel digging out 3 motorcycles all completely buried in river silt. A Ducat Dama 900, BMW 650 which was the one he was going to accompany on and a Ducati Multistrada. The carnage was unbelievable.

@@kiwiadventurer a 900SD? 😭😭😭. That’s a solid classic right there. Luckily stuff is replaceable, but very saddening seeing it all on the news. After our chch quakes, I know the feeling sadly. Hope your friend gets sorted out soon.

@@eastpeak74 Thanks Howie. The Darma was insured for 6g's but Dan said apparantly they're worth 30g's. He didn't know. The Ducati Multistrada had river silt forced through the air filter system. All the heads have to come off and gearboxes checked for water so they can be filled with cheap oil until so they can move on to other priorities. Its incredible where the silt under pressure goes.

@@kiwiadventurer ugh that’s the worst. I think it should be on insurance companies on classics, but that’ll never happen :( That’s crazy! You’d think if it went through the filters and beyond, it’ll be toast. Hopefully it’s a write off and replaced. Is it the V4 or V2? Either way, expensive :(

How many kms have you done on those tires already?
@kiwiadventurer
@kiwiadventurer Год назад
Can't answer that but I know I treated them with kid gloves to get me home even before I started. I got 5833kms out of the Anikee Wild and was totally shot when I got home. I get 7000km from Mitas EO7'S.

How much is 500lb? Hold on I'll get the calculator :- 500 divided by 2.205 = 226kg approx. That's a lot of weight to be lugging around mate, I'd be cautious crossing the fords as well. Anyway the scenery is certainly not getting any worse that's for sure.

Hi Mothership. Loose lips sink ships, I should tidy up that throw away statement becaust my bike fuelled up weighs 240kg. I'm 80 -85kg ready to ride and all my luggage at a guess is 30kg. Total 355kg. Look at it another way, that's nearly 180kg per foot print which isn't bigger than the palm of your hand. That's 783Ibs all up.
