The stunning Rainbow Road runs for 112kms between St Arnaud and Hammer Springs. It is a wilderness riding experience and runs though the private Rainbow Station and is accessible to 4WD vehicles and adventure bikes for a small fee at certain times of the year.
Following the Clarence River it has stunning views the whole way from tussock lands and screes to Beech covered mountains.
This was our first proper water crossing and we royally mucked it up! The good thing about starting with zero skills and experience is that you can only get better! Each crossing a little more confident in what our bikes (and ourselves) were capable of ...but you really do need to look where you want to go and not where you DONT want to go!
Following the Rainbow road we carried on through the Lewis Pass on SH7 to Springs Junction and then carried on to Murchison along SH65.
BIG day BIG SMILES!

I've Ridden the Rainbow Road on a MTB (mountain bike) My understanding is the southern end (to lake tennyson) is a public road, the Northern end is Private through Rainbow Station but the road is open in winter to allow access to the Rainbow ski field, thanks for sharing
