After travelling full time for an entire year, we've gone from zero to "nearly" hero. We discuss what a year of life on the road is like, what we've learnt and touch on some of our favorite places in Australia which are not to be missed!
We are Hannah, Chris and dog Archie, setting off on a 12(ish) month trip around Australia - our BIG Staycation, with the whole of Australia as our backyard! We've quit our jobs, rented the house and gone from never towing a caravan, to touring the country full time with one! We're learning as we go! / staycationoz

I am sure this video will be really helpful for anyone planning on embarking on a trip like yourselves. Lots of very helpful information, -you've already done the legwork so it could save people lots of planning time . Having had camper vans for many years, and understanding completely about having to learn how everything works, I am full of admiration for you both in undertaking your trip never having towed a caravan! You definitely had to be quick learners ! But what an amazing year you had !! X

As I've watched your channel from the beginning I can see you've had an incredible learning curve and adventure! Wow, what a great informative video. Lots of meaningful and useful info. We really related to it all, as we've done that 5 month trip. We really like & appreciate your presentation style about highlighting and showing what this country has to offer. That inspired us before our big trip. You mentioned that you planned your trip & itinerary for executions etc from checking out RU-vid & then finding the spots on Wikicamps. I saw a video where someone said wikicamps had been bought by a conglomeration of caravan parks and they're taking all the free camp info off surrounding areas where caravan parks are. I hope not but I wouldn't be surprised these days.

Hey Brett. Yes, Wikicamps was bought by Gday Parks, but my understanding is that Gday parks said that they wouldn’t be changing the business model of Wikicamps

Hey Cath. Great question. We didn’t have too many issues in that respect fortunately. There were a few big walks that I wasn’t up for, and so Chris went off and did those on his own while I pottered around the campground. When we were in Freo, Chris drove down and did Busselton Jetty (as it was closed due to wind when we were there), and I did the shipwreck museum and round tower. We don’t take offence if one of us needs a bit of space, and so we did things independently if we wanted. Didn’t happen very often though ☺️

Hey Nat ☺️ That’s a really good question. It took a little bit of getting used to. We did set some ground rules. They were: If you’re not desperate and you’re at a caravan park, use the public loos, especially for #2s. When you do use the caravan loo, put the tv or music on, and keep the bathroom sliding door closed both during and after. Make sure you open the bathroom vent and turn the fan on, use the provided chemicals and give the bathroom a spray with odour neutralising air freshener afterwards, and also if anything starts getting whiffy, empty and rinse the toilet cassette at the next available opportunity. It was good that we were both aligned on these point and so there were really no issues 🚽🤩 Hope that helps!

I am such a traitor, i got episode 40 and then somehow got led astray by wild camping videos and channels on youtube!! But i am so so confused, didn't you finish your lap a year ago?? This video suggests you have only just finished, have you done loads of travelling since but not made videos? Please enlighten me, i have obviously missed some critical information... Btw I think the caravan deserves a trip to new zealand :)

Brian, how could you???!!!!!! Total traitor 😜 Yes, we did finish the trip a while ago and filmed all this back then. But I got working again, and video editing went on the back burner for a while. Now my job doesn’t feel quite so new, I’ve got the headspace to get back to thinking about travelling, so getting the editing from the lap finished, and we’ve started filming some new content too…….
