Ep76: It's taken 14 months but I've finally done it!!!

Gardening with my miniature schnauzer in the home kitchen garden and our UK allotment plot.
This week starts with a lovely, sunny day at the allotment plot where - finally!!! - I dismantle those old compost bays in the spot where the greenhouse will be going. I say "I", but I had a lot of help! First though, I plant the raspberries (Polana variety, autumn fruiting) and give up on those brassicas that never did get planted out. There is a garden centre visit this week where I buy hellebores as well as a few other treats. We do a little greenhouse and home garden update and end by looking forward to all the March sowings that are coming up.

Lovely video again! It's the highlight of the week to see your enthusiasm for the gardening and Dorie in the leek bed. 😃 This weekend I'm rearranging my living room and kitchen to sow tomatoes, beebalm, welsh onions, garlic chives and St. Johns Wort. We still have frost coming here in Norway, and I don't have sun yet on my east facing terrace/balcony for more than an hour mid-day. But many of these I can try later outside if I fail inside. Still a novice, learning by failing. 😉 And watching gardening youtubers.

Oh what a lovely message! That's a keeper 💕 Yes, I think it is finally tomato time! And yeah, inside here too. I can move things out once they've germinated - like the lettuce and marigolds - but the rest is still cosy indoors! Learning my failing is the best way! But I'm also glad you're here watching! 😊

Steady on Clare. Right, let's see - yes to globe artichoke. Sunflowers, no - I'll hold off on those. Brassicas yes. Beetroot yes. Calendula - I probably should actually! Sooo much in this pile to sow this weekend and that's without thinking about tomatoes - which I really do need to think about!!

Hi Kerry, Shifting soil is hard work...but clearly chocolate is a great motivator!!! The hellebores and cherry blossom are just beautiful....I had noticed that the hedgerows are in blossom now, but not only that... it is officially the first day of spring today! Hi Annie. Haha - the chocolate definitely helped!! It is the first day of Spring - I was filming this morning and mentioned that - and don't you worry, lots of sowing coming up in the next vlog (hopefully being released later today...)

I still have to catch up on the beginning. I want to do much more drying of herbs and things this year. And yes, that's a lovely thing isn't it - your saved seed taking root all over the world. Just lovely.

I planted a few bare roots and bulbs yesterday - aquilegia - dahlias - lilies and agapanthus 🌼🌺🌿 the sun came out at teatime 😎 love from a windy but lovely Whitby 💙

I love aquilegias - I can see them popping up in quite a few places. There was a brief bit of sun today but another rainy one. Tomorrow is supposed to be nice (Sat) so got another plot day planned.

Hellebores are stunning 😍 the new and existing ones in your garden. It felt good to be back on the plot and actually seeing some progress. It's felt static for so long. I am a hellebore fiend. One of my top 5 plants for sure. You have a lovely week too (and don't overdo it either!!)

Thank you Linda. Haha - it's funny, some of the raspberries I put in last year have properly spread, others just died a death. Hoping this has filled in the gaps and I'll get more of a showing this year!

The mouse 🐭 doesn't seem to like the salad leaves 🥗 as long as there are beans 🤔 I've sown a lot of salad seeds yesterday. The ornamental cherry is so beautiful 🌸🌸🌸 and you have a great collection of hellebores 👍 I became a fan of those plants after my last visit to the nursery. Greetings Heidi 👩‍🌾💕

It was funny - i was really like, oooh I'm totally on top of things and then BAM, oops. Charles D is in warmer climes than me down South, so it prob better to plant a little later anyway - that's what I'm going with!!

Those compost heaps were a massive job. Well done to you and your cousin. Her fledgling vegetable patch is going to be amazing. It’s huge! Salad bar is looking great in the greenhouse. Everything is so healthy. Your hellebores and the ornamental cherry.. just stunning. Your poor tulips but the compost looks ok. Love all the hats that made an appearance in this video. Hilarious about the calendar 😂🙈

It did look big on the video - she's managed to fit in 13 pallet collars - but it is quite a small space really. Haha yes, I did have a bit of a hat cat walk this week!

Thank you Pammie. It was definitely back breaking - or at least back aching for a few days afterwards. So glad it got done though. Will be finishing it off this week and then hopefully can get the greenhouse up over Easter. Exciting!

Oh you're totally right - it's always something ridiculous isn't it. Usually for me it's getting out of bed wrong (somehow!). I know my triggers though - long drives, standing in queues... the gardening helps in the long run, I'm sure, but sometimes I overdo it. But yes - it will be a gamechanger. I've got so many tomato varieties this year - I'm going to need more undercover space!!

Those hellebores are just gorgeous. I bought my first 3 varieties the year and I’m going to try and save the seed and grown some. RU-vid says they take two years to flower, but at least £20 a pop I can wait. Have you tried collecting seed from them?

I haven't tried saving seed yet - they're supposed to self seed and spread but not seen much evidence of that so far! There is a hellebore looking like plant popping up in a spot I definitely didn't plant one! Note that growing from seed means they're unlikely to be true to the parent plant - but I never really see that as a problem.

Alliea showed how she uses the rings to suspend her trays/ guttering in her vlog today. Very useful. I cover my trays at night time with a high dome propagator lid. I take ot off in the morning as the mice are only about in the night. I still haven't been able to fathom how they get in, lol! Raspberries are shallow rooting and shouldn't be planted deeply. The first roots from the stem being no more than a couple of inches below the soil surface. Hope that helps Kerry. Beautiful hellebores. Love the really dark one! Happy gardening 😃

Yes, I need to watch Allie's video! It will be my tutorial! Hope my raspberries will be ok - I don't think I planted them too deep... lol. I knew it was one or the other. The dark hellebore is stunning isn't it. I don't know which is my favourite.... Oh and I think another has just popped up from a self-seed - I can't be sure yet, but it definitely looks like one in a spot that I've never planted one. Love a self-seeded plant!!

I finally am!!! She says... well, one step at a time lol. I think it'll prob be some toms but maybe the stuff that needs less constant picking, like the melons?

@@dogontheplot exciting tho lol i tried n failed at melons last year got some foilage but no fruit lol but i just ordered okra after watching you grow some never tried or eaten them before so fingers crossed i like it lol and also still trying to grow my isotope chillis theyre still real tiny Liam at isotope says i might be watering them too much and need to let em dry out so they spring back to life lol but i think its my grow lights not being too good so ive ordered mini propagators with their own lights built in see if i fair better ,lol but on the up side all the flowers im growing are ace and i normaly suck at flowers lol dahlias and poached eggs are really doing well im on my third sowing now

@@thewitch69 chillis do take a while to get going and then they shoot up! At least mine have now. Okra or oca? I'm doing both! But haven't sown the okra yet.

@@thewitch69 well they are two very diff veg! Okra are green bean like pod things good in curries; oca are little tubers and taste like lemony potatoes. 👍

Yes I moved everything out of the greenhouse this afternoon to get rained on - the best kind of watering! Now it's all back in and tucked up for the night (ready for the mice 🙄) - honestly though, it was so great to see you on the Live. Hope you do it again!

I don't think it would help for long - another little monkey would just move in! I'm ok with them in the garden- i'd just like them to leave my broadbeans alone!! 😂
