Gardening with my miniature schnauzer in the home kitchen garden and our UK allotment plot.
Liam and I took a cheeky little mid-semester mini break away to St Briavels on the Welsh border - and to our surprise it snowed! It was pretty magical and I couldn't help but share, esp as we spotted lots of foragable goodies while we were out and about inc. more scarlet elf cup mushrooms, jelly ear mushrooms, wild garlic... Plus it was just beautiful 😊
When I get home though it is time to check in on all the seedlings - a long purple aubergine (eggplant) has finally come up and the strawflowers are starting to germinate. The chillis look good. The peas and broadbeans continue to feed the resident mouse, while the ranunculus start putting in a showing. The lettuce has been all but decimated by a slug who apparently isn't so keen on rocket. On the plot, I get the first grass clippings delivery of the year and so I mulch one no dig bed and also bring some home for the hotbed which is beginning to heat up now.
Sowings for this week: marigolds, more lettuce, candytuft (iberis) and physalis (cape gooseberries) are on the agenda for a mid-week lunch break. All of these require light to germinate so I am surface sowing with a small covering of vermiculite.
I also get the dahlias out and this year I'm doing something a little bit different...

Addition - since filming I've come across @bohoflowers1who has a lovely short video on the plastic bag method for dahlias as well as another on how to take cuttings. Keeps it nice and simple. A recommended watch 👍
