I got my first bearded dragon when I was 8 years old, and I said goodbye to her a few months ago. She was 22 years old, endured all of the care mistakes I made when I was a child, and was with me all the way up to having a reasonably stable career. She had a myriad of issues at the end of life, but in the end, malabsorption and rapdily losing weight is what finally signaled to the vets and I that it was time. There is something special about having a creature that sticks with you for that long, especially from childhood. I miss my girl more than I can describe. I hope that in the coming weeks and months you find some measure of peace and know that you gave Striker a long life. It's a rare thing to have a reptile that's as old as that.

Sorry to hear about your beardie. You put it perfectly, they endured everything but unfortunately we have to say goodbye at some point. It truly was the hardest day of my life and the room still isn't the same without him. Thank you for the kind words. Hope you are doing okay without your beardie as well.

I have a large axolotl tattoo on my forearm of my girl, Persephone. She had a very rough start to life, and was one of my first axolotl rescues. She was with me almost 9 years when she passed last year. It never gets easier, and it's strange, but the tattoos really help. Seeing them and smiling makes it a little easier. I'm very sorry for your loss. He was a special little guy ❤️

Striker lived the best life you could’ve given him. He was happy, healthy, thriving. You can put yourself at ease with that that. I lost my first reptile, also a leopard gecko. I bought her from a Petco as a baby, I didn’t know any better back then. She was likely bred from a mill and was born with a congenital disease that prohibited her from gaining weight and she lost her appetite, along with metabolic and organ issues that I’d didn’t know about. I did rehome her to a rescue I trust and worked once she got so sick so radily and my means of taking care of her were unobtainable. She died in their care. I had her for about 16 months, the rescue had her for until March 5th of this year when she passed away. I help myself by telling myself that I did everything I could do, gave her the best home I could, and gave her to people that would give her all she needed and wanted. Her name was Ducky. I currently have a couple crested geckos, I give them the best lives I can possibly give them. I made a vow to myself to never buy another living thing from Petco. All your animals look amazing and the care you have for every single one of them is inspiring. Keep going Mike, we are all so proud of you. Striker more so. We love you

So sorry Mike. Striker is an icon. My parents bought me a boa when I was five years old and I no longer have him(Fred) anymore but he's the reason I now have a lifelong passion of working with various species and I think of him all the time just like I know you will with Striker.

Unfortunately everything in life has a price and comes at a cost. Many of us are fortunate enough to share our lives with animals but the price we pay for that is the pain we feel when they pass. Unfortunately I know that pain all too well, but one thing that can bring us some respite is knowing we did everything we could for them and that they were loved. And as loving owners we take on and deal with their pain so that they don't have to. All our animals are priceless to us, which really makes us the richest people in the world. Striker will be with you for as long as you remember him ;)

I was obsessed w leopard geckos as a kid bc one of my closest childhood friends had one named Darwin named after Darwin from Gumball and that got me super interested in them tho I never got one sadly. I really loved your videos and you were def my favorite RU-vidr when I was in like 4th/5th grade. I hope you’re doing ok man, losing pets suck bc it’s pm losing a friend. Great reptile room tour video. Sorry im just now watching this. I've been watching you for a few years now. I am so very very sorry for your loss of Striker. I know how much it hurts to lose a reptile friend. Unfortunately i am facing something similar. My leo boy Willy is 22 and slowly starting to fail. Weight loss, decreased appetite and other things. He's had many vet visits recently. I know his time is approaching. He also like Striker, has no nails and lost some of his toes. Again, i am deeply sorry for your loss. Know you gave him the best life you could and instead of being selfish you were selfless and ended his pain and difficulties. Rest in peace Striker.

Most ferns are very finicky especially when being repotted and/or moved. The one miniature species 6”-8” I’ve had the most success with is called “Fluffy Ruffles” (from Kartuz Greenhouses, California.) They reproduce by spores and (especially) by runners and I’ve had to thin out their terrarium every six months or they’d completely overrun it. They’re also very sturdy and trample resistant once established and would definitely do well in your setups growing up and rooting on the cork walls. I once had a beautiful, full Rabbit’s foot fern for about 12 years suddenly collapse for no apparent reason and die alarmingly fast (perhaps it’s their life span?)

with the ants, they hybernate, so you'll notice less activity or maybe even death during winter, this cant really be changed because they dont hybernate based on temp, rather by a biological clock of sorts. other than that, you'll definitely want to keep the actual nest portion covered and dark, they're very very sensitive to light, and that can make them not thrive, hope that helped!

I was having some local hard ciders from Downeast cider house, if you asked me how I felt about a pineapple cider I probably would’ve gagged but they’re single handedly top 2 alcoholic beverages of all time. Plus they have a lower alcohol content so you can sit there and chug them if you really want

You are both an inspiration to me. Condolences for striker he lived longer than my younger brother be proud of yourself. I got a female Colombian boa for my first reptile after moving out, not knowing how rare they are in Ontario. I then got a female Argentine, a female Suriname boa fell on my lap because of her feed response became too much for the last keeper. I now have a male jungle carpet tryna get a female to breed. Trying to get a python brongersmai. I’m a lucky man but I’m getting into breeding jungle carpets feel like there aren’t enough up here at all.

@@MikeTytula appreciate it I have been modeling myself after you and your gf. You are incredible people. A lot of people straight up do not like reptiles let alone the larger boas and pythons. I’ve faced the “consequences” from family to gfs even some friends have cut me off. I started with female anery Colombian boa, thought it was this giant world. Figured I would just keep the jungle carpet litter. Hopefully breed boas once I seasoned w carpets. Having litters of argentines and jungle carpets all to myself…🔥

@@MikeTytula It’s the least I can do for people who are keeping the industry alive up here. yes I got into boas as soon as I was on my own gave them 3.7 f by 2f tall 2f clear bins as babies. I’ve been getting setups done for adults for two years 6- 8 f clear bins with added locks. Also 8f pvc and eventually a vision cage for passion enclosures. Not dissing my big snake breeders since I’m only keeping boas carpets and short tails I have dozens of huge palace sized tubs for them and grow outs. I’m just starting with one pair not using 1 male to 2 females so I’m not buried to the neck in jungle pythons. By tubs I mean big clear bins set up arboreal. The breeding is just a dream for now for many years.

Honestly, I don't think I do anything special, but humidity and air movement are two critical factors.

Losing a pet it sucks. No matter what the pet is. a dog, cat or a gecko. or a snake. or whatever you have, it sucks. But this is how I look at it. You'll see them again in heaven. At least he won't be suffering there. He will be the same old gecko in heaven. I'm sorry for your loss. It's hard. to lose a pet. but at least he got to spend 18 years with you. 18 years old. Geez, that's a long time for a gecko to live. I know it's hard. but take comfort knowing that he won't be suffering anymore. that he will be with Jesus. and that he will be. not will not be suffering any more. I can tell how much you loved your little gecko. May he rest in peace.

Agreed, loosing any pet is terrible. He was 20 when he passed, and hopefully lived a great life. Fingers crossed he's in a better place. I love him to bits.

Did she put the ants in diapause? Also, check for mites. Camponotus, especially the pennsylvanicus, are usually pretty easy.

I don’t have any plants to hold moisture for my leachie enclosure so I have a bowl of water in there with him and he decides at least twice a week to take a giant pinky size turd in the little dish for water so I feel your pain on that one BIG TIME
