With as much passion as I have for our natural world and all the animals in it. I focus on providing the most up to date information on reptile and amphibian husbandry as possible, in the hopes of providing captive animals the most natural life possible.
Legendary comments lol. So much different strains of Mary you could grow with your grow op bro. Totally legal. Poison toads and frogs and weed operations lol.
1 hour 10 min to plant 7 plants,.. +10 min more to add springtails. Insanity. I love every minute. It will grow in nicely. How about a live stream for 2 min to add the frogs,.. and a 1 hour 30 min of live viewing the frogs?
In tanks with the sponge mat bottom, do you still add a substrate barrier/substrate and a clean up crew? Or do you just put the leaf litter right on top of the sponge and forgo planting on the "forest floor"?
Troy does straight leaf litter on top of it. I typically put some substrate on top of it because I would like to be adding plants into the substrate that are heavier root feeders.
@@MikeTytula Thanks for your reply. Can you use a clean up crew if you don't have any substrate (for example, can you use a clean up crew directly between sponge mat and leaf litter?
Hey Mike! I have been setting up my first vivarium with the filter foam and substratum method, and had some questions about planting into it. I recently planted a sonerila into my foam, and just cut out a hole of the filter foam and stuck the root ball in with some milled sphagnum. Do you have any tips for planting these longer root plants in the foam? The substrate mix you added in this video seems like it would make it easier, but you don’t seem to have a substrate mesh to keep it out of the foam. Does the heavy misting not push it all down and give you a sloppy mess fully of bacteria in the bottom of your tank? Thanks!
The filter foam itself should act as the screen filter. Of course you can definitely add a screen mesh overtop of it. Perhaps I will on the tank that I am building tonight on Livestream!
Cool Vivarium, appreciate seeing this step by step ( FUEGO ). Also have you thought about making one that's bioactive? Like a drainage layer then a more natural substrate with a clean up crew? (Isopods & Springtails)
They can be harmful in longterm to the springtails in bioactive vivariums, also make sure you tell your viewers not to dump the treated water into drains
Thanks for the heads up! I had a lot more information in the video but had to make it less than a minute for a short. I thought it might harm the springtails after some time, but I didn't notice much of an effect in our tanks.
Great reptile room tour video. Sorry im just now watching this. I've been watching you for a few years now. I am so very very sorry for your loss of Striker. I know how much it hurts to lose a reptile friend. Unfortunately i am facing something similar. My leo boy Willy is 22 and slowly starting to fail. Weight loss, decreased appetite and other things. He's had many vet visits recently. I know his time is approaching. He also like Striker, has no nails and lost some of his toes. Again, i am deeply sorry for your loss. Know you gave him the best life you could and instead of being selfish you were selfless and ended his pain and difficulties. Rest in peace Striker.
I gave the tarantulas to a friend of mine when I moved out of the province. they are all still alive and growing big! I show the cat I currently live with and my GFs dog occasionally in the room tours.
I know this video is old but this is such a lovely build! And dune geckos are definitely punks lol, my 3 strut around their 18x18x12 all night and look at me like I'm interrupting something every time I check on them. Awesome little arid species
Ya they are awesome little geckos that I strongly recommend to people! Since posting this video Dayyan and Adam have made these guys pretty popular little pets!
That Thai cat snake was a ripper, all her stuff was insane! Got a blood python from one of the vendors there, not at the expo. Have 3 boas bci bco bcc a beautiful jungle carpet python as well. Its like a part time job now lol my 1st, bci is a strict ambassador I wouldn’t be here if she wasn’t so intense. Even when handling she squeezes so hard you feel it in your bones she acts like a bonafide bcc. Love her so much shes putting on more size than bco and bcc on slightly less feed, all 3 boas females.
