@@rickyfg17 you're welcome Ric! thank you for watching. Yes, will get an mXrevival Rider Discount on your new graphics kit when you reach out to DeCal Works. I left a link for you in the bottom of the video description 🔥 I also carry these completely different Yamaha body styles for just $500 and gas tank included! www.mxrevival.com/product-page/2002-2020-revolution-kits-replacement-plastics-yz125-yz250-two-strokes
I don’t even have a Yamaha YZ ( i got a 04 Honda Cr 125 two stroke) but that ain’t gonna stop me from watching your awesome content Charles! Bike looks freaking rad!
That thing is sick looking ! 😳😁 The steel frame actually looks great as a 2022 . Great video that was short and sweet, with the tips that only you would know as far as any fabrication to make it work good. Not into the restyle kits for Hondas, but the Yamaha stuff is great !
I agree, Ray! I wish they came like this. I might have to go OG blue frame when I build this one after seeing this... I'm glad you liked it & thanks for the feedback too
That is f-ing EPIC Charles. Once again you have knocked one out of the park. That looks so great! As always, take good care of Charles and family and until next time, cheers to all.
Thanks Robert! If you like it now, just wait till it's an actual build 😍😍😍 I was really pumped to do this body conversion video. Thanks for all your support!
It’s my pleasure! Going to be so fun to have your bikes match 😍 reach out to me for help anytime via my website contact link. www.mxrevival.com/contact
Great video Charles, one question I assume this would all work with a larger Acerbis gas tank? Since a new tank is needed it'd be nice to increase the volume at the same time for longer rides.
I just did this mod on my 21 and everything worked out perfect except the fuel line was about a 1/2 short since the petcock is more forward on the new tank. Easy fix though 👌
Right on dude! That is something I didn't cover in the video, and didn't even try. Good information! Don't forget about that decal discount, no matter what bike you own. That will always be there for you if you ever need it
I don’t like the new body styles in general. The side plates are getting smaller and smaller. Too much pipe hangs out from under and behind the side plates. However, the Yamaha still has a medium sized side plate and the body lines look good. Overall, I like it.
Totally agree! The KTM rear number plate keeps getting higher and higher haha. I think Yamaha did a killer job on making this look extremely proportionally correct. I also sort of like how the rear fender has a little bit of a concave, making it slightly curved like the old days. Not super sharp and sticking straight out like most of the modern bikes. I like that too, just something I noticed about the Yamaha though.
Excellent vid. Request. Doing this on my phone so it’s a little hard. Is there any way you can put a little (2) next to the parts that you need multiple of? That would make it easier on the Rocky Mountain parts guys. Thanks!!!
Thank you, I appreciate you watching. You're in luck... When you're using Rocky Mountain, and you click on the part you need... It will automatically have the quantity for that piece already. You can add or subtract from there if you already have some of those pieces at home, otherwise it will automatically assume you need all of them. It is always the exact number of a particular fastener that is on the bike 💪 So for example if there are four rear fender captive hardware nuts, and you click on that part, it will show a number four because that's what you need. Simply click add the cart and you are already taken care of.
Looking great! I have a 2002 yz 250 with an oversized IMS tank. Will the updated tank shrouds fit the old tank or would I need to update to a 2022 oversized tank?
Great Video I’m planning to do this to my 2006 125. Did the front number plate and fender bolt up or did you modify the holes to fit? Thanks for making this video!
You're welcome, and thank you for watching! 2006 should be the first year using triple clamps that work just fine with the most modern number plates from the four-stroke lineup. You may find that the number plate will not sit flat on the two mounting posts in the lower triple clamp casting. That's because the steering stem is longer on the yz, or two-stroke models. It will still work though, and you'll have the single mounting point, dead center for the upper mount. If you don't like the way the OEM number plate sits on the lower triple clamp, get yourself a Cycra Stadium plate instead. You won't have to worry about the lower mounting points as that number plate style zip ties to your fork legs. I think it looks a bit more Factory myself. Just be sure to put some decal material, or something to protect your forks underneath the stadium plate's front fork mounting, all the way around the fork tube. Because eventually the plastic number plate and zip ties will erode your forks kashima and wear into them. You will probably need to redrill your front fender. In a couple weeks, I will have the complete plastic kits for these bikes too! Email me anytime for help, Chris. 🔥 www.mxrevival.com/contact
Thanks dude! Finally got all the damn parts haha... Thanks for the feedback on the newer company logo look. I'm digging it too. The font is called "road rage" as are the numbers
I recently bent the shit out of my subframe (2018 YZ250) my buddy says he might be able to straighten it out, but if he can't I'm going to have to buy a new subframe and I've been trying to find info on if the 2022-2023 subframe will fit my 2018 and you answered it for me thank you. and you have a new subscriber
Hope you only bent your subframe, and not your ass too! Thanks for watching, Bobby. You will love this mod and it will bolt onto your bike so easy. The only "issue" is the cost for some people. But well worth it versus the cost of a brand new Yamaha. Hopefully the itemized parts list in the video description is helpful for you when you are putting your parts order together! If you decide that it is outside of the budget for now, I also have these completely different body styles that include completely different shaped gas tanks for the Yamaha two strokes: www.mxrevival.com/product-page/2002-2020-revolution-kits-replacement-plastics-yz125-yz250-two-strokes And either way, that DeCal Works decal discount is ready for you no matter what body style you're running or what bike you're riding! I appreciate the sub! Stay tuned, I have some pretty crazy Yamaha s*** coming up that you truly will not want to miss 🙏
Just watch this video again, and noticed that you have a aluminum skid plate. can you tell me the name and who you purchased it from? Thanks again love you videos keep up the good work sorry if my punctuation tsar correct LOL never was really good at spelling😅
Super sweat setup Charles ! I just picked up my 06 2fitty :) time to get this bad boy some modern looks , do I need a new seat to be able to rock your 22+ setup ? Thanks for answer. cheers .
Another great video, can’t wait to see this build. Also, I did a similar project where I installed 2005 YZ450 plastics on my YZ426 which gave it a new life,
gotta get a new fuel tank for my 05 and am pretty torn between the rtech restyle and trying to do this, the rtech has the price advantage but i do enjoy the thought of a lower seat height from the new 2022 plastics
For whatever it's worth, the Rev tank also holds about .25 gallons more fuel than the stock 02-21 tanks. The seat is ever so slightly lower feeling in the front area, to me, with the Rev tank. 💪 It's definitely at least half the cost of the 22 parts too! Hit me up here if you ever have any other questions about our Rev Kits! www.mxrevival.com/contact Thanks for watching! -Charles // mXrevival
I am converting my 06 yz250 to a 2023 as well! I am using the parts of my 2023 yz125 since the subframe is slightly bent and don’t mind swapping thing around some
After looking through the latest issue of Dirtbike, I was thinking about asking you about the R-Tech tank/shrouds you used on the thundercrackr. I've been looking to buy a kit for a few years but they seem to be unobtainable. Thanks for sharing this knowledge, and congratulations on being featured in the magazine as well. Nice one!
Hey thank you. I appreciate the kind of words and need to pick up that issue still. You can reach out to me anytime about the revolution kit: www.mxrevival.com/contact We ship them worldwide every week, and have been in stock no problem for the last few years. Hey man, in the video it looks like you swapped over the old model air boot into the new model air box, i don’t see the new style air boot in your parts description, but in the video you said “now that your 2022 air box and air boot are now connected” Just making sure I do not need to order a new model air boot, I can use the air boot from my 2017 with the 2022 and up air box, correct?
You're welcome, happy to do this video for everyone and I hope you give it a try. You can 100% reuse your exhaust. You only need to replace what is mentioned in the video on 2002 through 2021 Yamaha 2 strokes 💪 I also have these badass Yamaha body styles as well, in eight different color ways: www.mxrevival.com/product-page/2002-2020-revolution-kits-replacement-plastics-yz125-yz250-two-strokes They are a great option and a fraction of the cost of the 22 kit, although the 22 kit is amazing and cheap compared to buying a new bike. That's why I love the Yamaha 2 strokes, options for days! Reach out to me here if you have any questions and thanks for watching: www.mxrevival.com/contact -Charles // mXrevival
You just changed my decision for my near future yz250 purchase. Definitely gonna look for a good deal on a 2006+ now instead of a 22 and just do this exact thing, but in supermoto trim
Thank you! Ended up taking this bike a couple steps further…. 😁 Yamaha YZM500 Dirt Bike Build & Giveaway ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-svQ_3hbXOeI.html
nice work , did the pipe line up on the subframe ok as im sure motocross action said the old exhausts wont fit the 2022 yz250 , i put a doma front pipe on my 2022 but was not able to locate a silencer when i fitted it .
Thanks dude. No problems at all. Perfect Factory fit and finish. I wonder why they would say that? Nothing has changed about the engine or exhaust bolt/mounting since 1999. I did a fair amount of part number searching, and even sometimes that doesn't really tell the story. For example, based off part numbers I also ordered a brand new air boot. When it arrived, it had the exact same part number as the old one. No difference. So the part numbers in the description below the video are all you really need. It's all the main pieces, and a few small Hardware bits that will be used in conjunction with some of the existing Hardware you already own. So it's everything you need, as affordably as you can get it basically. No waste. Anyways, do your thing! You won't have any problem with the pipes.
Thanks for video..i have ordered parts needed. I have been waiting for someone to do this. I have a couple questions: The silencer bolts right up? What about louvers for shrouds? Will be working on a 2006.
Supposedly the bike feel is better with thinner styling than before. Have you ridden to feel the difference? That may be one justification, other than it looks much better. If doing a pre-2002 model (I have a 1999), you would need mods to the frame for the subframe, and a donor airbox assy from a 2002+ model, as well as either adapter brackets or custom tank mount brackets. The radiator mounts for the shrouds are different too. I am curious if the 2002+ radiators will mount up correctly on the 1999 with the new plastics and tank?
Hey Brian, I haven't ridden this bike yet. I don't think they are too much different in width and I believe the radiator shroud flare out is about the same, just due to the fact that the frame and radiators/ melting points are still in the exact same location as before the body swap. But the bike IS sleeker and there are less hang out points for your boots on the shrouds. Sometimes I would get my boot opening stuck on the bottom corner of my old YZ radiator shrouds. Overall it is just extremely streamlined and looks amazing in my opinion. For your 99, I haven't spoken about this much at all because it's not done, but I have prototyped it complete bracket kit for the 96 through 2001 Yamaha 2 strokes. It's in the rough draft stages but I've done it. My next steps of these are get the brackets sent in for 3D printing and make them look better during this process as they are all just loosely welded components at the moment. Once those parts come back for a test fit and they are confirmed to fit, and look better, I can send them back out to be created out of alloy. My intent is to get the 2021 body style on the 96 through 2001. The 2020 setup with technically fit as well, and I will definitely try it since I own all the parts, but I believe there will be a gap at the joint between the radiator shroud and the rear number plate. When the newer 21 Parts go on to a frame like yours, the nose of the fuel tank is slightly angled up compared to the 2002 through 2021 frames. I could see this causing somewhat of an unsightly gap between the radiator shroud and rear number plate since that is for the juncture is now. Definitely keep an eye out for it though! I wanted to do it for years and I am shocked that nobody has yet. 🤫 Thanks for watching! And reach me anytime via my website. Outreach from the contact link go directly into my email 📥
@@mxrevival I’m curious too if a little fab work where the tank mounts to the frame is a better option too. Since you already have to chop up the frame to get the subframe to mount. It’s just not a bolt on solution either way.
i just started to watch your recently I'm in the process of rebuilding an 03 I just restored an 88 Cagiva WMX 250 wmx 250 It came out great, yeah also curious on the price on every part cost to do this,? thank you❤
ok, I already put a comment in but I looked up on OEM subframe for that it doesn't look anything like the one that you have cuz it looks like the one you have looks like it had a has like a bracket welding on top for the seat so where can I get the exact subframe that you have you can help me out with that that'd be great thanks again your videos are awesome hope to see more in the future thank you so much
When I got this bike it had what appear to be wr450 forks on it, as far as I can tell. There's a piece of aluminum cast in one of the lower lugs that usually holds the speedometer bracket... Best fork swap is the 2006 or 2007 YZF front end. It hits the frame stops on steel frames without modification. Of course you get better looking fork guards more like these as well. All you need to do is press your two-stroke stem into the four-stroke clamps and you're good to go. Make sure to buy Yamaha clamps that will properly accompany the Yamaha forks. For example, two-stroke tubes have a 2 mm difference versus the four-stroke tubes, in the top clamp. Long story short, two stroke forks need two-stroke clamps and vice versa. You can go with 2008 or newer Yamaha forks if you want the newest style fork guard and bolt pattern, but then you will need to modify the frame a little bit where the triple clamps hit the stops. They don't quite line up and can cause your entire front end to over twist. If you don't want to fork swap, lightspeed carbon fiber used to make a fork guard that looked like these, but has the old bolt pattern that the 1996 through 2004 Yamahas had. It also deletes the long brake line. Have fun!
Unfortunately no, not with the 2022 and newer tank and shrouds. If you look closely at the completed bike, you will see that the new style radiator shrouds tie into the new style rear number plates. You’ll also notice on your 19 that the plastics are completely separate from one another between the tank and airbox plastic. BUT, we do have a gas tank and shroud option only for your bike that will make it look incredible. Here it is: www.mxrevival.com/product-page/2002-2020-revolution-kits-replacement-plastics-yz125-yz250-two-strokes
I heard rumors / talks of that but they are the exact same part number. Ordered one anyway just to be sure… new air boot arrived same exact unit as the 03 boot.
@@mxrevival but Rocky Mountain atv says the 21 and below is pn# 5NX-14453-00-00 And the 22-23 is 5NX-14453-01-00 It’s weird cause Motorsport shows it the same but Rocky Mountain says it’s different. Idk but good to know I could just use my 2018 boot
Can’t decide if I want to overhaul my 06 or buy a new bike. Would do a full engine rebuild, suspension rebuild, Hinson clutch, wheels/tires, THIS plastics swap….gets pretty pricey. Wondering if it’d be smarter to just sell the bike for 2k and buy a new one
If you have that much to do, I think you should sell. Buy the new one first though, and swap all the stock parts (non-body) onto your old bike. That'll help with your sale & in pics. In other words, keep your aftermarket stuff for the new bike if they aren't too beat up. Pipe, reed cage, FWW, stuff like that. It'll all fit, Yamaha hasn't changed a thing. No sense in buying ALL of it again. But the new bike... nothing like that tight & fresh chassis feeling. 😍 Damn, now I'm off to the dealership!
@@mxrevival I mean it’s almost 18 years old, I’d rebuild the whole engine. Clutch is fried. I could go without new wheels and just buy a new plastic tail(busted). My PC pipe is banged up, Vforce reeds are old, wouldn’t put in a brand new bike. Everyone acts like it’s cheap to “build” these things when it’s really not
You can use your original exhaust. Full parts list in the video description for you 🙌 basically anything you were truly needed is shown in the video, which is great because you don’t need any extras like exhaust pipes, etc.
If you take a closer look at the differences in the frames, bodies, etc. it will become easier to tell the difference regarding why parts will not interchange 💪
Your frames will not accept it or any of the new frame part’s without heavy modifications. But don’t worry, I’m working on a kit for all the 96 through 2001 guys that should hopefully be out sometime in 2023. It will allow you to run 2021 set up.
Tear it up! That will be fun. You can get these exact graphics from DeCal Works and of course, the discount! It's about $50 off the decal kit, which would go well if you wanted them to supply plastics and pre-install your new decals for you as well. So sweet!
Is the 17 airbox the same as the 22? I was able to slide the 22 subframe straight into the 17 and I’m wonder if there’s gonna be any issues? All bolts line up to the frame, so I’m just confused..
No confusion, my brother. You’ve got this! All you need is the exact parts I mentioned in the video, and nothing else. 😁 the airbox core is identical to the 17. but the airbox sides are not. That is what will allow your new 22 Rear Number plates to fit, the airbox sides. A.k.a. you need a 22 complete airbox because you cannot get the sides separately.
@@mxrevival I noticed after I commented but I forgot I was on here that day so I kinda just laughed at myself afterward, builds just waiting on graphics and I’m feelin 22’ 👊👌
