Hard work there Simon. I had a late run 24-25lb Tyne fish last season, I'm 58 and it took me 1hr 15 to net it. Unhooked it and it swam off straightaway. Started fishing again and thought "I actually don't want to catch another" So I packed up and went home. Epic battle and an epic fish, well done !
Catch and release seems to be working on the river in recent seasons. Well done. Haven't seen a fish of that quality coming out of there since the early '70's
This is the size of my biggest Salmon 24.5lbs i Lost it one day, i was using my 15ft double handed rod and it snapped my leader after 20 minutes, next day I was fishing for Sea trout in the 9ft rod with a 6lb leader and I caught the 24.5lb Salmon 45 min fight as it was the lighter gear! Got my leader and fly back from the day before lol Thanks for sharing great video

@@Simonc262Ah Simon ! I never laughed so much ! As I pictured what neighbours would be thinking if they heard you without seeing you !!!! 😂 but on a more serious note ! Fair play to you ! That takes some doin .... Fair play 🙌! He was huge.....did u get photos?? I hope so 😊😊
Woah! Excellent! Congratulations and well done! Not easy on your own, loved the sound effects from yourself....think that you were more exhausted than the amazing fish!
So nice to see a video showing the rod and rot tip in action. Most fishing videos only show the reel and hands reeling and the rod does not the most important part of fighting a fish.
He done right to put it back, unless you can't afford to eat then return the fish. There are people out there that are raping Irish waters and keeping everything they catch.
Brilliant fish, many congrats. Good to see Britsh made Bruce and Walker rod being put to good use. I do, however, hate to see someone struggling to get a net ready whilst they have a fish on, as it is so easy to lose fish when this happens. I wish they still made the extra large Whitlock salmon fold over net with extending handle, as fold overs are far easier to deploy.
Well done catching the fish of a lifetime and getting it all on film! I was wondering if you actually felt the take or if you just started stripping line at the same time as the fish took the fly? From our viewers' perspective it looks like it was a soft sneaky take which probably went unnoticed until you began to strip. Congrats!!
@@Simonc262 Thank you , well maybe its like brand new as i cast it maybe 5 times an gave up but maybe i should try it with your set up and give it another chance ,you can give me your contact details if i decide too
I just can't understand how you don't prepare your landing net beforehand. I see this in so many YT videos. This is simply the elementary school of fishing. Still, good video. I liked.
That is the most calm and nice 24 pounder i have ever seen in my life, it did absolutely nothing what so ever, just dropped with the current a few times without a single run. Did you pour sedatives in the water before you started fishing?
@@Simonc262 I live in Norway and i have landed 2997 Atlantic salmon with the largest at 54.6 pounds and trust me when i say you cant hold a 24 pounder if it wants to run. It didnt even try to run and as i said it did absolutely nothing.... Extremely calm and nice fish indeed.
2997 Wow,thats almost 300 fish a year for 10 years or 100 fish a year for 30 years. 54.6lb wow .I must start counting my fish.Theres a thing called a clutch on my reel when you tighten it it makesit harder for the fish to make that clicking noise when he runs. You should try get a reel with one of them.
@@Simonc262 You are forgetting something, an Atlantic is a fair bit stronger than the baltic and if that fish WANTED to run there would be NOTHING, you could do. I am 6'3 and 220 pounds and i dont play with the fish but there is a HUGE diff between a fish that turns and give it the beans and a fish angling a little on the current and letting the current take it some meters downstream like that one did. I have seen 15 pounders flatten a 16 feet 12 rod stripping 200 meter of line in one single run many times and you cant stop them. Not going to happen. I have also landed a 32 pounder in 3 min so it all depends on how the fish behave and if you hook an angry one that just turn and burn downstream i promose you it wont care about your heavy gear for baltics for ONE sec. I doubt it beats a 16 feet 12 weight anyway..
@Pete_Gribs A ludicrous obsession with getting a photo of a fish, which was already on video. I'd be very surprised if it survived that ordeal. Just really painful to watch, i'm afraid 🤷♂️
@andrewmaccallum2367 absolutely, I am a carp angler and I'm obsessed with fishcare. Trust me, that fish would have been knocked around a lot worse on its trip upriver to mate.
nice fish couldn't make out the make of your reel what kind is it my fave is the hardy silex but I really like the sound and look of your reel as well. are you guys ever allowed to keep a salmon from the river??
@@Simonc262 thanks is it old and where is it made if you don't mind I really like it want to find out more cause I want 1 I'm on Vancouver Island B.C. Canada if you find yourself here anytime and want to fish for are salmon and steelhead you are more then welcome.
