I received a free sprue of the British Cavalry with Wargames Illustrated Magazine this month, and I just wanted to say I am really, truly impressed with the quality of these new Epic plastics. They're all nicely detailed, sturdy and well proportioned. Once my Bolt Action Italian Force is painted (It arrived last month!) I shall definitely be saving up for one of the starter armies! Thank you for the video John and the Warlord Team :)
regardless of what people think of the scale - i have various friends who have 10mm and 6mm so say they wont go down the Epic path - i think the free sprue idea is masterful as without a doubt it will get people to start armies who wouldnt otherwise
Thanks John! I love your communication with the public / players! It is fantastic to see you doing Napoleonics so soon afhter ACW, but it's like you said, If the sales go well and the public wants it manufacturers will follow. I wanted to get into Napoleonics for some time now, but already have so much in 28mm that this format just speaks loads to me! Vive L'Empereur!
I can’t say enough how excited I am for this. I’ve been dying to get into Napoleonics and this is the ticket. Really appreciate this interview answering a lot of the frequently asked questions. Ummm Borodino????? Please!
We would have killed for this 25 years ago. We have thousands of ACW and Napoleonics in 15mm. However, seven years war would be awesome. Great work as always.
Im so looking forward to this, love epic lines, especially since they kinda fit well with Black Seas so mixed land/sea battles are possible. Hopefully this gets more support in not only Waterloo but the whole conflict surrounding it. Great work lads!
Thank you John for spending the time to answer the questions and explain some points about them. I have never owned a napoleonic miniature before and am quite looking forward to them!
The Peninsula campaign is more my bag... Or so I thought, now I'm all in for Waterloo, how did that happen? Really looking forward to seeing how the range grows too.
Exciting news! Waterloo is a perfect way to kick off the French Revolution/Napoleonic Wars/War of 1812 period. I hope that you will also do American, Austrian, Belgian, mid-war British and Canadian, Dutch, Revolutionary and mid-war French, German States, Indian, Italian, Native American, Ottoman, Portuguese, Prussian, Russian, and Spanish armies too so we can have Epic Battles across America, Europe, the Middle East, and India.
Thank you John, much appreciated. Very excited for this and can't wait to see this grow, and love to see what you have planned for the future. Bring it on!
Excellent product as always. Looking forward to getting more Warlord games next year. Ie Black Powder Bolt action Beach Assualt which I will be modeling as 2nd BN 2nd Regimen which saw service starting from Guadalcanal to present day. ( I served with 2/2 in the late 80s.
Very much considering picking some of these kits up when I've got more money at my disposal, I've been an ACW and Napoleonics nut since I was like 12-13. If you're looking for ideas for future boxed sets to do, I'd gladly recommend Leipzig. It's close enough to Waterloo that you could probably reuse some of the French and Prussian models from the Waterloo box, and the battle also involved Austrians, Russians, Swedes, Poles, Saxons and other Germans, just tons of armies big and small.
Very interested in these ranges, alas, i always end up noyt buying because i already do the period in another scale. ACW i already had two big armies in 10mm, now napoleonics, i have more than i can ever paint from your 28mm lines. my main interest for a set like this would be ECW, or a battle of Hastings like set!
Nice Q&A. You can never satisfy everyone all the time but great to hear plans and thoughts. Not sure I will buy in but great to see Warlord expanding the player base for Napoleonics with a relatively cheap and easy to collect range
Thank you very much John, it was fantastic to see what you have coming up and have planned. Thanks to the Black Friday sale I just bought my very first Black Powder supplements that Being Albion Triumphant volumes 1 and 2 in preparation for Epic Napoleonics. I was delighted to hear a Peninsular War sprue as this is still my favourite theatre of the Napoleonic wars. I was also chuft to bits to hear combining the Skirmish 95th with the Highlanders. Thank you for all you and the rest of the Warlord team are doing to bring us the great new era in gaming Napoleonics on a big army scale!!! I only had one question. Will the main commanders come in faction packs, British Commanders or French Commander s?
@@vanpallandt5799 - Can’t imagine how you could mistake Austria and Australia. It’s like confusing a grapefruit and a grape! Then again there are people who mix up Sweden and Switzerland... From your name, I assume you’re Belgian/Dutch - another annoying thing is when people confuse the adjective Belgian with the noun Belgium. Happens remarkably often.
@@vanpallandt5799 - Also the name of the commanders of several Walloon regiments in the 17th century. And possibly related to Van Bijlandt of Waterloo fame?
Amazing job on sculpting the details on these 12mm figures. Were I just entering Napoleonics I would gladly adopt the epic scale. Sadly I still haven't finished my armies I began 5 years ago yet, but there's always the future! Best of luck.
Thanks John, as you are backing up “That Article” with all the division commanders / Generals/ Marshals I’m sold. I would have preferred a smaller base for the sprue as 20mm would fit my Age of Eagles rules an probably 4 of your figures per rank would fit on that. 30mm would fit Dave Browns new rules General d’ Armee’. It would have suited a lot more players. About 15 years a well known 10mm manufacturer refused to produce a British Army with the 1812/15 uniform saying there was no call for it as Waterloo was only one battle. I wanted to paint british and French armies for the 200th anniversary. I would have had 10 years to paint them. To keep mysel happy I decided to change from news agent to Spar convenience store I sold up and retired in 2013. In 2017 he produced his first Waterloo figures. So you’re dead right about Waterloo. I’m just deciding wether to buy from the top en £££ or paint and go but. Those specials are very tempting so is the pub and the farm I also need more paint after painting SYW Figures. Living near Rhyl no shops after buying stock for 25 years you would think I could cope but things are changing so fast now. Any way I’m sold the 1” figures just fit and they are big enough to show detail and get twice the battle size than an 18mm army. Mike Leese
Four highland regiments at Waterloo, but only three kilted. 14th Foot also wore the old stovepipe. Belgian wings were distinct from those of the British, but you may get away with it in this scale. Brunswick troops at Waterloo sported two different types of shako, both of which were quite different from the Belgic or the French shako.
It’s not entirely clear how many Brunswickers wore the Russian-style shako. Some certainly did but in this scale you would barely tell any difference. More important are the carrot-shaped plumes for the line and light infantry and the horsehair tail worn by the Leib Regiment.
@@peezebeuponyou3774 - You say both types of Brunswick shako were quite different from the French shako? Sure the Russian-style Kiwer was quite different, though it’s not at all clear how extensively it was worn. The other type, however, is extremely similar to the French shako, and completely indistinguishable at 28mm, let alone 15mm.
@@sirrathersplendid4825 Hello Rather_ I'm not including the basic line infantry shako, which, as you've alluded, would easily pass for a Belgic. Yes, I should have stipulated 'non-line' troops. Light infantry shakos likewise, although how many had switched to the cap by 1815 is open to debate. It's the Guard and Avant-Garde hat I was referring to. Just to repeat so we're all clear on this- it is these two types of headgear which would need to be sculpted. The guards shako is an easy conversion. The AG hat not so much- given that these figures are pretty compatible with Minifigs, I'd just buy their version if you plan on using them on your gaming table.
@@peezebeuponyou3774 - I do in fact have Minifigs for my own AG rifles. Also have a bunch of HaT figures, which are unfortunately rather poor models, although they are currently restricted to the AG Light Infantry (not the Gelernte Jäger). The style of hat they’re wearing was known as Corsican. BTW, the ‘Belgic shako’ was used by the British. The typical Brunswick shako resembles that of the French.
Hi John, When will your personality figures such as Wellington, Picton, Uxbridge and Napoleon be available? What about Aide-De-Camp figures for the various armies? Look forward to hearing from you. Most impressed with your excellent figures. One needs Aide-de-Camps when using Dave Brown's rules General de' Armee. Dave Oman
Cautiously optimistic on this one and am glad they are a bit larger then Civ war to work with other lines of figs. Many have thousands of the metal figs and this allows them to bulk out more. Really want the Austrians though so may have to wait a while.
Epic Antares or Erehwon would be awsome. Historical is Fantastic, but going fictional stops all the stitch counting and that nagging feeling that I've gotten something "wrong" in my army...
The 95th wore the same uniforms as the Hanoverian lights and the Grubenhagen line regiment. The shakos varied from Hanoverian regiment to regiment, mind. The Prussians were late to the fight, them arriving late to Epic is rather fitting. When you do the Cumberland Hussars, you only need to show their backs! If you wanted to go truly epic why not 6mm? Not very good in plastic?
Haven't had a chance to pre order yet; my house sale is going through in a week or so and I want to be able to order the big collection when I can afford it. Hopefully they don't have a limit on numbers.
Please, please add Epic Austrians and Russians... please, please, please..... We want to play the entire Napoleonic period in Epic scale. Marengo, Peninsula Campaign, Borodino, Leipzig!!! We're in the USA and we love Napoleonics!
I’m already fully invested in a slightly larger scale, but this looks like a great move for historical gaming. And hopefully it’ll draw some people away from all the fantasy/Warhammer nonsense. Bravo, sir!
Will you release some "what if" Waterloo scenarios so the battle can be recreated under different conditions? Would be a nice extra for those investing in the starter armies.
am in paying for two box set but ill be buying the start set very soon am well in and looking forwards to more of this scale plzs keep up the good work guys
My question, Why the 100 days campaing? Why not the 1805 campaing? This campaing as more battle and belligerants. The 100 days is majority Waterloo. Buy a lot of plastic for Waterloo is a little expansive...
The whingers give me the irrates. They are such short thinkers . All of what you said John I thought was to come before in some way. God elp them if they had to run a company
Why, oh why ... is the senior management of Warlord Games so FLABBY around the waist? They don't seem to be naturally chubby or obese. So it must be over-indulgence of some kind. I think we should be told ...
