As a Connecticut local who grew up with Wildcat, it's a childhood classic...that does indeed suck nowadays. I was legitimately concerned that I had sprained my back after riding it. It's between that and Maryland's Mind Eraser for the worst coaster I've ridden.
It’s terrible. I rode it back in the day with the PTC trains and before it was retracted and it was awful. It felt like that ride was going to collapse.
Unless, of course, you live in Connecticut, in which case this and quassy are kinda all you get unless you go out of state. Compounce is a fan favorite here
@@ItsSiebay Frontier City’s Wildcat actually runs quite well, they really just need a Raptor if anything, plus Wildcat works well for the lineup Frontier City has, but that’s just me.
On most wooden coasters, retracking the ride is seen as a plus. From what I’ve gathered, before it’s 2017 retrack Wildcat was rough, but not intolerable. AFTERWARDS, it supposedly became unbearable, meaning that, somehow, the retracking made the experience worse, which I’m not sure how that’s possible
We need like titan track or ibox track or gravity group rebuild the coaster from scratch. This thing beat me up so bad my doctor thought I got concussed. It was nuts
@@smuella somehow that's even possible. You'd think a retrack would make it smoother. Or if it didn't improve smoothness maybe get rid of some pot holes or jolting of the track to make better transitions. But no. Somehow it's far worse.
Not sure if it has degraded in the last year since this video but I had my first visit to Lake Compounce today and OMG was Boulderdash rough! A roller coaster shouldn't be so much work for me to fight back against it trying to injure me. It was so disappointing because all the while, I was thinking - this layout and aggressiveness is perfect! All it need sis RMC to smooth it all out. Wildcat was closed, but if it' even rougher, I'm fine with avoiding it. Other than that, the park is beautiful, the other coasters and flat rides were awesome, the music was great, and end of night fireworks was the perfect cherry on top. The park is also a manageable size if you have kids like me. I highly recommend anyone visit.
Boulder Dash is a huge fast jack hammer ride, rode back it was worse, front is almost as bad. I remember riding this when it was new, it was a pleasure, now it’s just plain painful. Needs new track and new train with round wheels, these square Fred flint stone ones got to go.
Wildcat is alright. It's definitely not the worst coaster ever, but it's definitely not the best in the park. Went on it earlier today, maybe they did more renovations in the past 2 years but I didn't find anything except for the end part particularly rough. Boulder Dash makes it look like a joke.
I wish it was easier to get night rides on Boulder Dash. Now that they stopped Haunted Graveyard, you pretty much have to visit on a summer Saturday night.
@@amusementnow4416I've always wondered, do you have to be a paying member of Ace to be able to attend those events? Or can you just show up? They are holding a conference at my home park, Lagoon this year, and I would love to attend it, I just don't really know how it works lol
thats crazy how you found wildcat to be so bad. I remember riding it right after the retracking and it wasnt that great but i thought it was fine. Sucks how its gone downhill. But you cant beat boulder dash absolutely amazing insane coaster I gotta get a night ride one of these days with how you described it.
Wildcat is on the short list of credits I've decided I will never get, until something is done about it. I've been warned. I'm over 50 and I can't take that. And it's a pity, because the thing is so iconic. You see it right at the entrance and it just beckons you. On the bright side, Compounce's Boomerang is actually not bad. (And the immortal awesomeness of Boulder Dash goes without saying.)
I'm also over 50 and just getting back into coasters after a 20 year absence. I can safely say that I rode Roar at SFA with a some trepidation because of the roughness at certain spots. My fears turned out to be unjustified. It didn't bother me at all, despite having suffered a herniated disc in the past. (And I found the ride more enjoyable than most, too.) Note: I have always taken a mobility-centric approach to my back issues. I never had surgery even though it was recommended at one point, but my outcome is BETTER than typically acheived through surgery.
@@phoenixshade3 roar is enjoyable and smooth as glass compared to wildcat, they really needed to leave the no divider buzz bar trains on it so you could bounce around on wildcat. think carowinds or kings dominion hurler right before they added the trim or current carowinds hurler but without the insane padding and with even more jackhammering
How could you not mention one of the prettiest Boomerangs in existence? That blue and those sparkly purple trains are AMAZING. And the ride was pretty darn smooth lol.
Taylor, what is it with you and entrances? First the Sea World entrance debacle and now Lake Compounce as well? I think we need to start a GoFundMe to buy you paper maps to use from now on. 😂😂😂😂😂
Sometimes these videos are updated and reposted with current date…as a small suggestion, at the beginning of the video or in the synopsis about the vlog, maybe you could include the exact date (and day) that you were there. I enjoy your videos but as I watch, I am interested to see the days you went for certain parks and what the crowd sizes were like as you go on the rides.
I was at Lake Compounce a few weeks ago on a college tour trip for my younger son, and I was excited to ride Boulder Dash with my older son who was too small to ride the last time I road it. Unfortunately, Boulder Dash was closed that day, and we rode the Wildcat instead. Terrible ride, particularly the ride restraints. They were against my lower abdomen rather than my hips, and by the time the ride was done, I was afraid I might have organ damage.
Didn't try a night ride on Boulder Dash when I road it in the past, so I can't compare night vs. day, but I will say that my Boulder Dash rides in the day were my favorite experiences on a wooden coaster, because it felt like we were going over and under tree branches for almost the entire ride ( except for the bunny hills outside the woods at the end, which give really nice air time ), and you the trees kept you from seeing what was around the next day. Boulder Dash is one of the few roller coasters that can't be replicated anywhere else.
Taylor, You mean Wildcat (here) is worse than other really rough coasters you've either mentioned or ridden! (Wildcat at Hershey Park; any Vekoma SLC except for Great Nor'Easter, Great American Scream Machine at Six Flags over Georgia, etc)
You need a pain reliever comparison... Pick one really rough coaster, take Tylenol, see how many times you can ride it. Next day Advil... And so on. The one that gets you the most rides in Wildcat/X2/ whatever wins.
Great Vlog! Wildcat Is definitely my least favorite coaster for sure, a good description of it is driving down a gravel road and your tires are falling off. Boulder Dash is amazing at night!!! When was this vlog filmed?
I rode Wildcat and Boulder Dash in 2016 before the track work... I was just grateful Phobia was there and there was no line. The triple up on Boulder Dash was extremely painful and all of Wildcat felt worse. Went back in 2019...the double up replacement on BDwas the only enjoyable spot but Wildcat still ranks as my worst. Boulder Dash needs major re-tracking by Amuse.
Lake Compounce is my home park but I just went to it for the first time a couple weeks ago. We rode wild cat right after it opened. We weren’t expecting much cause we heard it was awful but we had a little bit of hope after hearing it was re tracked. This first section kept this hope high and then it gave our group such awful whiplash.
You can see the track work on Wildcat is downright unacceptable from the station and while in line on that bridge over the track. The track doesn't align even close to itself and there's huge gaps between pieces of track. Just riding from the station to the lift hill is awful. Whoever retracked it should absolutely never be allowed to touch another roller coaster again. This is a small ride and it nearly busts your spine. Image if they retracked a larger coaster how bad it'd be? It'd be worse than son of beast was.
I was blessed to be able to ride Boulder dash the day it opened. Rode it 13 times and it's what got me into coasters. A night ride is a religious experience. Also RMC needs to help Wildcat js
Wildcat was my first ever roller coaster. It scarred me mentally so badly that i was afraid to go on roller coasters for like 15 years cuz i associated them only with pain...and this was well before the current retracking.
went here a few years ago and stayed there with our camper for like a week or something i dont remember exactly how long, but it was 100% worth it absolutely insane rides
Wild Cat used to be WAY smoother, idk what hapened but it got CRAZY rough in the past 15 years. And the old school PTC trains rode that course so much better
Even with Millennium Flyers and retracking, the ride still sucks. Living in Connecticut I rode this back in 2008, and then came back to Lake Compounce in 2019 with the retrack and it was one of the worst experiences I have had on a roller coaster ever.
I didn’t get jackhammered as bad on wildcat when I sat front row and no one else was in the train. The more full the train was the worse it got. But yeah never again. I was more sore after the day after Lake Compounce due to Wildcat than a half marathon.
Yeah, Wildcat needs some serious TLC. Haven’t bothered riding it in years. Wouldn’t be mad if they tore it down and built something completely new or RMC’d it. But if I’m being 100% honest (I’ll probably get a lot of flak for saying this) I wouldn’t be mad if Boulder Dash got RMC’d either. That lovely coaster is starting to get very rough as well. I still wouldn’t be mad if they left it as is either, it’s that good of a woody.
Lake compunce is my favorite park cuz its my home park i go there so much btw you should go back wildcat was reatract and boulder dash got some titan track i love boulder dash and phobia is very fun great park
Wildcat at lake compounce is the worse roller coaster that I have ridden. It felt like my shoulder was going to pop out of my skin, and my neck was tossed around. That was if not, the worst roller coaster experience ever!!!!!!
Hey that's my home park and yes Wildcat sucks! It's very rough and not that great I was hoping it would improve with the Millennium Flyer trains replacing the old PTC trains but it's still way too rough! Wish they would RMC it but I don't think Lake Compounce has the budget to do that unfortunately. Boulder Dash in my opinion is one of my two favorite wooden coasters the other El Toro at SFGA!
I've only gone to lake compounce two times because six flags new england is closer but i went this summer and i waited in line for wildcat but i left because it was too long, but I'm glad I didnt ride that... go ride thundorbolt at six flags new england instead.
