For Arab people who have learned English in their childhood they see English letters as Arabic because they can understand as soon as they see the word unlike Chinese for example And for the dates, they’re not caramelized and nothing is added to them. They’re basically compressed for several months to get their juices out “Dates molasses”. We can actually make it at home. The sugared apricot mostly seen in Ramadan. And we don’t usually eat it by its own. We cut it into small pieces and melt them in hot water and refrigerate it till Iftar You guys are so awesome🤣 You need to try more of these, there are a lot more tastier traditional candies you haven’t tried yet. This is how dates actually and naturally look like. It is usually pressed after being harvested and the caramel on is nothing but the natural juices of the dates itself. Bear this in mind, dates is very very high in Iron and other nutritions meanwhile it is very low in calories that what makes it perfect companion with our Arabic coffee
actually the English letters looks normal to us it’s like a second language, almost all the banners on street written in Arabic and English, and when we talk we mix a lot of English words with Arabic so yeah we don’t relate to how you feel when we see English writings lol

22:40 is a traditional drink in Ramadan .. yeah drink as we take this roll and put it with water and sugar on a low heat and stir from time to time until it is all dissolved and boils for a while.. the drink is somewhere between thick and thin when it comes to the amount of water.. just eyeball it.. it can be eaten like this too as it's like a fruit roll-up

The caramel sauce that on dates is actually a date 😂😂😂 we remove the seed and put the dates on the oven to make something we call it (debs - دِبس التمر) so it’s just like maple syrup 💚💚
The date should be eaten with a very bitter coffe to cover up the extra sweetness of the dates.... you sholud try it for once. SUCH A GOOD COMBO FOR MORNING
There isn’t a syrup added to the dates, they’re just compressed so much that the natural date nectar oozes out onto the sides, most Middle Eastern countries package dates like this because we have such an abundance of them And they’re a house hold staple (If the dates ever seem on dryer side just rehydrate them with boiling water) 🤗

Hi. I’m a Saudi girl. It felt so funny that I know every single thing in that package 😂. My favs are flaming cheetos/the last chips you ate (puff) /caramel logs//maamols/loco/the salted peanuts/ the jenny gum and of course dates (there is several kinds of dates that I prefer them to the one she sent to you). P.S like half of the things are old like we eat them to remember our childhood. Glad you got the chance to try our snacks .
I always watch foreigners trying arab sweets but they all get sweets that aren’t common among us. But this is actually good sweet picks this is what i get regularly 👍🏻

Actually, schools in the Arab countries start teaching children English from the very beginning like kindergarten or something, so it doesn’t look very foreign for us. Love what you’re doing btw✨
What you tried at 23:00 is actually apricot juice that's been condensed and dried, we usually dilute it with water or we make in a custard. Usually consumed in Ramadan as it restores your sugar level after a long day of fasting.
Omg love all these snacks specially Oman chips and sunbites, as an Indian living in Dubai, nothing is spicy for us lol we find arabic cuisine really mild and subtle yet full of flavors ❤️ love everything here, alhumdolillah for having lived in this beautiful city
Gamar Aldeen is not food itself but it kind of drinks. You have to put it in some water and mix it. Also this a drink is not everyday in KSA but usually in Ramadan. I’m so happy when I see you trying KSU’s snack ♥️♥️☺️🇸🇦
As for the dates, the variety you get in the UK is probably the fresh ones (dry and separated) just as they come from palm trees. The one in the video is the kaneez (stored) they take fresh dates, compact them after harvest with high pressure until they macerate and release date molasses which is the toffee like consistency/flavor you taste

The main difference between just a dried date and the dates you tried is sugar. What you tried is commonly referred to as a "sugared date" which sweetens as well as helping to preserve the fruit.

Considering that the USA is not that old when compared to other countries. I just find it hard to believe "It originated" when other countries might have been making the same thing or similar thing before another country. After just a little bit of research (Not Wikipedia) An old legend holds that immigrants from the Canary Islands brought a recipe for chili with them when they settled San Antonio in the early 1700s.
