These looks really cool. I also love this idea of creating small box sets around specific and reusable situations for gameplay. I could only image someday having a shelf of options to just pull from depending on the adventure situation.
I picked this up at my FLGS, and was not disappointed the Dragon is large and very detailed. You could probably get away with just a couple of washes to make the details pop from across the table. I plan on painting the whole thing though and adding some gems to the base, as well as picking out things like swords and shields to give the treasure more variety. The booklet for the encounters is great as well. I think I’ll end up buying this whole series, so I hope they do lots.
@@TheGallantGoblin I’ll share my work with you, no problem. The only roadblock I have right now is I need to pick up some brush on primer as I don’t want to overspray onto the treasure.
@@TheGallantGoblin It seems like an unfortunate choice by Steamforged, to make the golden base non-removable. Those who want to paint the mini will either need to awkwardly mask off the treasure hoard, or prime over the gold color and repaint it.
Painted mine came out pretty good for a first try at painting bus as said the tresure is a pain had to force the black base to pop for more angle but i could not remove the tresure so i had to prime it and repaint it but if you look closely it is not only gold in it there is sword ac shield helmet anf gems so i had to prime anyway
That's our DMs Guild supplement The Gray Merchant of Asphodel, which contains over 100 magic items inspired by Magic: The Gathering and Greek mythology for the Theros setting! You can get it as a digital supplement or a Print on Demand hardcover: www.dmsguild.com/product/315634/The-Gray-Merchant-of-Asphodel-100-Theros-Magic-Items?affiliate_id=1398733
@@josephskiles they just killed it. And kinda put the blame on the competitive scene for killing the game instead of making changes to fix some of the more negative experiences in it. The last year or so it seems their focus has been on licensed board games instead of what brought them to the dance. I loved Guild Ball and I'll still use the models wherever they can because with a few exceptions they are great.
@@jeremymagsamen3265 man that sucks, I guess at least I didn't invest a bunch of money into it before they dropped it. That the biggest problem with fledgling games they can be truly innovative and look like they are amazingly fun to play but gamers are often like me , ie leery to invest in something that might go bye bye after a few years, still I thought GB had a big enough fanbase it would be around awhile. Having been raised up a farm boy of course the farmers were my favorite guild ( though I liked butchers guild a lot as well), what guild did you main bud?
@@josephskiles it had a huge base until about a year, year and a half ago. Definitely enough that it shouldn't have died but even before they killed it, it felt like it had been just about abandoned a few months before covid happened. And I have everything except for the last 3 captains and the Shepards. My main were Butchers. They just fit my play style. But I think from a visual point the Hunters really hit the spot
@@jeremymagsamen3265 well maybe enough fans will get together and the game will see a revival once all the craziness totally goes away, would be a damn shame otherwise.
Not really in the book included in this set, but in the Kobold Queen book the red dragon encounter is pretty much fully set up. You shouldn't have any trouble linking the two. -Theo
I have this figure, and I think it will be nearly impossible to do so without destroying the base. The claws are curled on the gold in such a way that you can't see how it is attached. The bottom of the black base has larger circles directly under all four feet, which makes me think that the feet have solid plastic pegs that sink all the way through the gold pile and glue to the base. If you have a replacement base of the right diameter, I guess destruction could be a choice. Or figure out how to (awkwardly) mask off the gold pile while you prime and paint the dragon. Final choice, just prime the whole darn thing and repaint the gold pile. If I ever decide to paint this thing, I will probably take the last option.
just tape it off or brush on primer, or just paint it up. Varnish helps more than primer for keeping paint on (according to some Goobertown Hobbies videos)
Look forward to the next boxes. My most memorable games of D&D came from NPC'S who were original in the ways they acted, I learned a lot about this from the various supplements released for 2nd ed Ravenloft , I highly recommend any who who like to make your villians truly unique check out the Vanrichten guide
@@TheGallantGoblin if you guys have never had the opportunity to check them out I highly recommend them as my all time favorite supplements. I believe drivethrurpgs has them for download since the originals and the compilations go for a hefty price these days but I can honestly say they taught me more about how to be a good DM than anything else I have ever read ! But since there were so many different settings in the 90's they all had to do something special to set themselves apart from their siblings.
@@TheGallantGoblin I would also add Theo, one of the guides deals solely with hags, I know from your videos you love them as much as me so I think you would definitely appreciate it because the guide does a wonderful job in making the reader have pity for them because of the awful transformation that gets forced upon them.
