I like how the eldest immediately caught what Tolkien wanted people to see -- that Sam is the main hero. I also liked how they kept cheering for Eowyn.
He was talking about Gollum. Which kind of makes sense. After it's finding, Gollum took the ring and hid it successfully for over 500 years. Then, lost it at just such a time as for it to be found by Bilbo, a best case scenario for the forces of good, since he's both resistant to it's corruption and good friends with Gandalf. Then, Gollum leads frodo through secret paths, and turns on them just in time to see the ring finally destroyed.
Tolkein absolutely did NOT "want people to see that". In fact I believe Tolkein has specifically talked about how much Frodo gets overlooked by people. He never intended for Sam to be the "main hero". He meant for ALL of them to be Hero's, all had different parts/roles to play.

“He is the main hero,” Indeed my friend! Sam is the main hero. A simple, true friend who only wants to help and with no guile or greed in his heart- and he was the key to defeating the evil in the world. As is the truth for us all.
And it's shown very truthfully so in the books, especially once he takes up the ring temporarily... and the ring tries to offer him power through visions and ideas of a land of beauty, flowers in bloom - ruling and enforcing the creation of such beauty. And same just pondering it for a moment, smiles and shakes his head. The ring just cannot seem to offer what Sam actually wants. He doesn't want OTHERS to do the work, He is a simple gardener and he wants nothing as grand as power and to turn the whole world beautiful. It has no meaning if it's not done with his own two hands. I'm paraphrasing a bit here of course, bt it's one of the most powerful scenes and shows just how different hobbits are to regular mortal men.
Babu said to pop the spiders eyes. This is actually what happens in the book. He damages the spider eye and the light from the glass gets in and blinds the spider making it retreat. Sam then stabs the spider . So Babu was correct 😊

The Ring tempted Sam with the deepest desires of his heart. But his deepest desires were to return to gardening, so he saw all the Earth covered in gardens, which is ridiculous, so he could give away the Ring with less efforts than others. Also, because he carried the Ring for a bit, his soul was tainted, so at the end of his days he could jump on one of the last White Ships to the endless land, to meet Bilbo and Frodo again and heal his soul. All that is from the books, it is not shown in the movie.
Gardeners like to garden. In the book he saw armies of slaves tending vast gardens. Meaning Sam wouldn't actually be a gardener anymore. Defeating the temptation.
It's called the endless lands just because the elves live there(.................their vast armies would have been QUITE helpful in some major battles...sigh, w.e) and it doesn't actually mean whoever goes there will live for ever, idk if by the time Sam gets there Bilbo would still be alive.
@@joshuaortiz2031 "sauron failed to understand gardeners" that pretty much sums up one of the messages of LOTR in-between lines. When you look at Ents vs Isengard, your are looking at nature vs industry. The ring (Sauron through it) failing to understand the deepest desire of a gardener is in the same thematic : whenn you have a mind made for thinking about power, machine and eternal consumption and industrial growth, you can't understand how someone can be happy with a simple life in his garden growing vegetables, trees, fruits and flowers. Things (as the ring is a craft) vs Lives (what plants Sam want to grow). Greed and selfishness vs altruisme and self-sacrifice. Destroying, subjugating, dominating and killing vs growing life, harmony, providing and sharing food, drink, health and beauty. In that matter, Tolkien was clearly criticizing the society of consumption that had kicked off in the early 20th century and was already in full motion post WWII, and not only in its books ;).He would probably be quite depressed or devasted by the nowday situation as there are Sarumans and Saurons among us and we are unfortunately taking a huge toll on our nature... not realizing Earth doesn't need humanity, our planet history will continue weither or not the human race is alive.
I love when Gandalf covers the Palantir and turns around ready to scold that "fool of a Took!" like he usually does, but the second he sees the condition he's in his entire demeanor changes and he rushes to help him. You can really see just how much Gandalf really cares.
@@jakobfromthefence It's not the same ability though. Aragorn heals Eowyn using an herb called kingsfoil or athelas. Athelas was brought to Middle-Earth from Numenor, and it's healing power was forgotten by all but the Rangers of the North by the time of LotR. He even uses kingsfoil on Frodo after the Weathertop, but that piece of morgul blade was harder to fight than just the backlash Eowyn and Merry felt after stabbing the Witch-King, and even Faramir is supposed to be saved from that Orc poison by Aragorn using athelas. The books don't have Gandalf muttering a spell to heal Pippin, he just tells him to "come back" and he does (which could just as easily still be magical, I'm just saying).
Indeed. Gandalf knew that Gollum was with Frodo and Sam, which is why I think there's 3 eagles when he goes to get them off Mount Doom. Peter Jackson really understood the character to add something small like that.
@@rhysproudmourne1646 It is interesting that there were 3 eagles sent to recover Frodo and Sam. There's a few possible explanations and I don't think Tolkien ever explained which one was true. One possibility is that they were there to get Frodo, Sam, and Gollum. It's also possible that Gwaihir has an honor guard since he is the King of Eagles. The other two (Meneldor and Gwaihir's brother Landroval) are there to protect the king in case any fell beasts (the dragon-like beings the Nazgul ride) remain alive. It could also be that Gandalf rides Gwaihir while Landroval and Meneldor pick up Frodo and Sam. Either way, it's a nice thought to believe that Gandalf meant to pick up Frodo, Sam, *and* Gollum.
@@kaludgo5811Not only a decent man, a great man. Gandalf himself remarks that the blood of Numenor runs almost true in him, and says he's far beyond someone like Theoden of Rohan. He was such a great man, that he resisted the corrupting influence of Sauron completely, something not even Saruman, greatest of the Istari, could do. In the end, he was driven to madness (and even then, he wasn't corrupted. Only falling to despair) due to the constant barrage on his psyche combined with the deaths (or apparent death) of his sons, but nobody else would have been able to hold on as much as he did. Not even Aragorn I'd wager.
I love some of their insights like "it is important for a son to have the respect of his father" because all Faramir ever wanted for his father to accept him, working out the what Gollum was planning , and saying things like "God will always help" because although God isn't mentioned in the books, Tolkien was of course a Catholic and he said Illuvatar which was what God was called in his books did play a part in some events, like perhaps making sure Gollum fell into the fire so the ring would be destroyed. If that sounds cruel, Gollum cursed himself when he swore on the Ring not to harm Frodo but broke his own oath. Also when Sam carries Frodo "he has proved his true friendship" and "that bastard is still alive!"! when Gollum reappears. Some of the best reactions ever.
Good choice in watching the extended versions. Was a great treat to watch these guys experience the LOTR trilogy for the first time. They're sharp too, they picked up on more than I did on my first watching all those years ago.
The extended cut for the Fellowship is amazing but Return of the king i have mixed feelings , Saruman's death is nice and mouth of sauron is okay but the rest of the added scenes suck .

I'm a huge LOTR fan. The Villagers reacting to the Fellowship of the Ring is what brought me to this channel only a week ago. Since then, I've binge watched most of the reaction videos, and I must say, the Villagers are kind, charming, intelligent, interesting, intuitive, and wise. Their pearls of wisdom will keep me coming back to rewatch these videos. To finally get to the Return of the King, I was so excited! My favorite movies made even better by their reactions. It's funny that Raeen always says he's not smart, because he seems like a very insightful guy and always has interesting comments on things. I think he is very smart.

I would love to see them react to some of the behind-the-scenes footage. I want to know what they think of how Viggo (Aragorn) and Orlando (Legolas) both had broken bones, and still kept running for the 'chasing the Orcs who took Merry and Pippin' scene, or Viggo's many close-calls including breaking his toe on the helmet in Towers, and barely deflecting the thrown knife in Fellowship. The whole cast was so very dedicated to ensuring that their work would be worthy of Tolkein's writing, and the Director, Peter Jackson should be commended for managing to create one of the only successful book-to-movie adaptations
@@seaztheday4418 They would definitely enjoy the behind the scenes. Raeen is clearly highly intelligent but they are all perceptive, appreciative, highly empathetic people with a great sense of wonder, fun and curiosity. I hope they get to see at least some of the making of process.

Facinating watching people living in a village reacting to a movie, where the heroes and central characters are people who come from a village. Villagers who are pulled into a gigantic story, and finally are victorious, using the virtues of village life, friendship and fellowship.
Tolkien himself said as much. While Frodo carried the Ring, it was Sam carrying Frodo both figuratively and literally which enabled victory. Sam is also one of the few noted to be able to resist the pull of the Ring in the books. It fails to tempt him with anything.
I disagree with this, Frodo had a far greater challenge than Sam ever did. No one could have gone as far as Frodo did, while several people could have been Sam in his situation like Aragorn for example, but none other could carry the ring as far as Frodo did while also suffering from the Witch King's blade and Shelob's venom.

1:04:02 - hearing Raeens voice crack really shows how powerful Tolkeins writing was and how well Jackson filmed it. This film get you feeling so many emotions. Happiness, laughter, anxiety, grief, triumph and admiration
Probably one of the biggest changes from the Book is the Steward of Gondor. In the movie he is deceitful, cowardly, paranoid and mad. In the book he is strong minded, just and not evil. He thought a war with his own Palantir against Sauron, a war of the mind. He could withstand Sauron's influence.
@@tevildo45 I'm going to assume you mean the films ruined Faramir and Denethor as I'm not sure how the books could ruin characters that the books actually created.
Their getting excited about wearing rings since they started watching these movies is adorable. This series has been one of my favorite reactions to the trilogy that I've seen. I love their enthusiasm and sense of wonder. Very fun. Also interesting that they seemed to be sympathetic to Denethor for a while, despite the way he's clearly intended to be unsympathetic.

One of the greatest messages of LoTR is about the importance of the personal struggles of regular people. Even when massive battles rage across nations, everything depends on whether a tiny person can pull through the tremendous struggles that were laid out before him. And he couldn't even have made it to his goal without the personal sacrifices of friends who loved him. And after he was there, he ultimately failed - until fate intervened - in the form of a completely corrupted Gollum who haunted and helped him... These are the kinds of people who Tolkien was writing about. These guys, who we watched watch the film, just like us. I'm wishing them all the best through whatever this life puts in their way.
I think Gandalf in the first movie, while they're sitting and talking in the Mines of Moria, mentions to Frodo the importance of Bilbo's pity in sparing Gollum's life, in that he feels that Gollum may yet have a role to play in the fate of the ring. And subsequently, Frodo's later pity towards Gollum, while unintentional, allowed for his own succumbing to the ring's power in Mt. Doom to be interrupted by Gollum in the end. So it wasn't necessarily fate intervening at the end, but rather, the result of Bilbo and Frodo's pity, that helped to turn circumstances around at the end.
I like the ending with the hobbits in the tavern by themselves. They have nothing in common with the other hobbits now because of the trauma they have been through and can only relate to each other. It's a good take on PTSD and how soldiers cant really relate to times back home after war and only have each other. J.R.R. Tolkien was a soldier in World war 1 so he probably had some trauma from the war and used his personal feelings and experiences in his story.

People I've watched with haven't understood the power of the ring and it's influence on characters actions but these three never missed a beat in that regard. They have a very thorough understanding of greed corrupting mankind. Was awesome watching the highlights of the LoTR trilogy with these three. Enjoyed all the teasing when the youngest was falling for Eowyn and Arwen. Great, fun attitudes from all 3!
I've loved to see Raeen getting more and more invested in the movies, you could see he truly loved them! That passion was real and was a pleasure to witness!

Seeing and feeling the Rohirrim Charge was one of the most epic theatrical experiences ever...Chills forever...You know it is a masterpiece when you don't want a 4 hour film to end.
The lighting of the beacons was also one of the most epic scenes of the series. Love it always. But feel for the poor bastards that had to live on top of the mountains just waiting for this
J.R.R Tolkien is the author and Peter Jackson is the director. The director was a massive Tolkien fan and as a youngster he really wanted to see a movie adaption of the Lotr. He never imagined that he himself would be at the helm of the movie or ever commit to such a huge undertaking of doing the books justice. But I personally think he did. (Also really funny that the director demanded that every actor and technical team was to read the books before they started shooting the movie not after thats dedication. Most of the movie scenes were also shot in New Zealand)
And while the movies gloss over a number of things in the books, that was a wise decision. Movies rely very much on a smooth flow of events, so having to make such pragmatic adaptations is needed. They also didn't have to do all the extra stuff needed to flesh out the world of Middle Earth for these movies given just how well regarded the Lord of the Rings is and how many people have already read the books.
i just got laid off from my workplace and this was exactly what i needed. rediscovering one of my favourite stories through the eyes of these amazing dudes was a great experience, and helped me cope and escape for a bit. thanks a lot for the work you do, please keep it up. we need more.
I would love for them to watch the 'Lord of the Rings' extras. They are so great and will answer their questions like Babu asking how they got so many extras (digital effects), how they created Gollum, the city on the mountain etc. but also give some background on Tolkien.
The place Frodo sailed to at the end was called Valinor: it was like Paradise for the Elves, and was also where Gandalf lived! The Elves lived there forever. Frodo would eventually die because he was mortal but he could choose when to let go of his life. He also went there because the wound the Witch King (that horrible thing that the girl killed) gave him was a spiritual wound and that was the only place he could be healed. In the book it says Sam eventually went there too when he was very old and saw his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
I have watched thousands of movies including almost every classic known. But nothing equals the impact this trilogy has had. To let these wonderful people enjoy seeing such an epic is fantastic. Without this channel it’s likely they would have never known. Bless them and your channel. ❤
An amazing conclusion to these LoTR videos. And I'm SO glad you picked the Extended Version! I love how moved Babu looks when seeing Sam's wedding. The overdose of happiness leaves him speechless. 1:13:26 Although, I wonder if they understood what it actually meant to go on the ship and sail "into the West", to the undying lands of the Elves. Because the undying lands is where Elf souls go when they die. It's both a physical place as well as a "heaven" of sorts. It means that Frodo actually dies the moment he stepped on the ship, he free of all his pain from bearing the Ring, and the stab wound he got from the morgul blade. You can even tell he still looks sick, until he's finally on the ship. Please tell them the significance of that scene. Also in the book, years later when Samwise was old, a ship came for him too. Because he was also a ring bearer, if only for a short time, but it still counted. And since Babu was so impressed, I guess you can now move on to the prequels "The Hobbit". Those movies were not as well recieved, but I think these gentlemen will still love them. They get to see how Bilbo found the Ring, and how it all started.
That’s correct. The souls of dead Elves go to the Hall of Mandos, the Valar keeper of the dead. He can hold their souls there for as long as he likes, although it’s not a hell, or punishment. It’s a place of rest and contemplation. When he releases them, they manifest physically in Valinor, to rejoin their friends and loved ones.
They are not dead on the ship, nor when they reach the undying lands. But they do die there, it's a one-way trip to heal their souls. Also it's not "heaven", it's a holy place for Ainur and Elves on Arda, just that. Tolkien's counterpart for heaven exists outside and after Arda, on Eä, and Elves are not allowed there, only mortals (humans) were supposed to go there after death (it is not clear if dwarves get to go there as they were not in Eru's original design).
It’s incredible to see this story and movies resonating with people from cultures different from the one Tolkien lived surrounded with. Since he was inspired by the stories of north mythology and others he was taking from a source immemorial that connects to our most ancient feelings, needs, etc. as such it probably connects with most human beings. I wonder if the movies/stories of today will carry such power of connection transversally to any culture into the future as LOTR does.
What an absolute pleasure this was to watch. These movies never fail to make me tear up in the end. Such a beautiful, timeless piece of work and I am very glad these gentleman got to watch.

These persons are so genuine and pure and they could love and appreciate so much an opera as the lord of the rings. Sometimes i want to cancel my memory to watch it again as the first time.
In the last 8 or so minutes of this vid, these fine gentlemen sum up the simple beautiful message of these amazing pieces of art and showing that Tolkiens work (and Jackson) is appreciated and brings universal happiness and a sense of unity no matter what bit of this watery mudball you are from. (Still get a teary eye when Aragorn tells the Hobbits "You bow to no one!")
This is 10/10 wholesome, and i'm glad they loved it as much as i did the first time. seeing someone react to "I can't cary it for you... but i can carry you!" will never get old!
These three gents put a smile on my face as always. Such decent, humble guys, fascinated by everything and always with a view I had never considered before. A joy to watch :)
Please tell the guys that, as a very big fan of these books and movies, that it was SO FUN to watch it through their eyes and enjoy their commentary. ❤

I am very happy to hear them credit the Author. J.R.R. Tolkien was a master writer, as well as a professor of language. I'm also glad to se the story holds power and meaning in other languages. Some of the things might not have been completely understood, but the majority carried well and I could see how it moved them. This is proof that a great story can be understood and enjoyed by everyone.

Just saw all three film reactions you did today, and my heart is really lifted now. My deep deep love of LoTR mixed with my love and fondness of the reactors was simply some of the best I have seen, so thank you for that, I needed my heart lifted today.
I have been waiting for this films reaction. Peace to you all from Scotland. Oh and i caddied for Sir Christopher Lee, Saruman at Gleneagles Hotel in 1983 for two days. I still have the photo of us, my smile is a mile wide. Of course as a 16 year old horror film fan i was meeting Dracula.

I am impressed you showing them the extended cut when they thought theatrical version was too long 😂mind you, I seen some Hindi movies with a 5 hour run time but if the story is good, they go by quickly
Big Tolkien fan here, never watched a lotr reaction before. Loved your first two movie reactions, but watching your reaction to this one made me realize once again how freaking amazing these movies are, by vicariously re-living a first time lotr trilogy experience. You guys made very satisfying observations and were so invested i loved it. This is coming from someone who is always a bit too concerned about whether people are paying attention watching lotr😅 I was like 7 when i watched it for the first time and back then this story felt as a real possible history.
After a few videos, these reactions actually seem genuine and sincere. The young man seems to run the TouTube channel since he is in every video while gathering the reactions of his elders as well, but it doesn't seem like he knows the movies, his reactions seem genuine. I really enjoy these!
Raeen is not, he actually reacts to a lot of things on the Common Man Show channel, which Badshah and Babu also do. All of these gentlemen come from the same rural village in India and their reactions to things they see, or even get a chance to participate in, along with other villagers at times, is very genuine.
Glad to see old Uncle was shown how to wear his earphones in the correct way, without it slipping off his head. Also nice to see that people of all cultures can connect with this wonderful tale.
