This is a very nice Vintage Table Fand, made in France in 1950.
The base of this Table Fan is made from bakelite and was the first plastic made from synthetic components. It was developed by the Belgian-American chemist Leo Baekeland in Yonkers, New York, in 1907.
I started this restoration by disassemblyof all parts.
After that i cleaned them in the parts washer from Kai IBS Germany with a special cleaner Purgasol.
To remove rust from the bolts and metal parts i used rust remover from MC-51.
To remove the paint from the propeller i used paint stripper gel.
After that i start sanding the metal parts with sanding paper .
To prepare for painting i used a cleaner from IBS BLITZ.
To protect from rust i applied 2 coats of primer.
After one hour in rust remover all bolt and metal parts was free of rust. To protect them from oxidation i applied a spray from IBS name MULTIFIX.
I cleaned the rotor and stator with a tooth brush and Blitz cleaner.
To remove all dents from the badge i used a smal hammer covered in tape to be more softer and after that i applied 2 coats of clear laquer for protection.
After primer was dry i start sanding to remove dust and make more smoother, and i applyed 2 coats of black metalic paint and 2 coats o clear laquer on top.
To make the propeller shiny i used polish compound fine grit and a cloth wheel.
To polish bakelite i utilized a car polish from Meguiars and a new clooth wheel.
To make even more shiny i applied original wax from Simoniz.
After that i made new gaskets from felt and i changed the old power cord.
From here i started the rebuilding!
Thank you for watchin and let me know what do you think about this restoration and my new style of editing

Great video! Just a little information for everyone: The 3 holes in the base are for bolts, nuts and hollow rubber feet., for sitting on a table, or leave them off, and use the holes for mounting on a wall or ceiling. This fan was originally mounted to the ceiling, or high up on a wall somewhere. They are missing, and the center medallion was "upside down" in the first of the video for it to be sitting on the table. Thats also why the center tag is so clean on the base. It probably spent most of its life against a wall or ceiling.

When he was 10yrs old which would have been 1936, his mothers electric ringer washer broke down. She had called a repairman to come fix it. While she was gone shopping my dad tore it down and fixed it by the time she got home. I was daddys little girl and spent hrs out in the garage watching and learning from everything he did. He always had something on the work bench he was repairing or making old into new again. He would quiz me and say...baby girl what is this part and what does it do? Lol He taught me so much except how to live without him. 😢

great job 😀. I really liked the contrast of the silver blades with the dark body and the dark protection grid. that contradictory that a fan has the mark "HEAT" 😂.
@TheWinjin
@TheWinjin 5 лет назад
I think that the paint on the blades was added somewhere during the life of the blade. Notice how it accumulated a lot of grime - seems to me it was some incorrectly-chose "what they had at hand" paint, probably it was used in a sunny-side room and the blades caught a lot of sun reflections, so the owner just went and painted it in the color of the bakelite. The way it was so easy to peel off - looks like it was like a wall paint. What do you think? I wonder if the author could shed some light, but I never saw painted blades before that. Either plastic or bare metal.

If something is unsafe, then replacement isn't a big deal. I don't know why people watch videos if they are going to pick apart the content. Your restorations aren't destroying history. Quite the opposite. You are bringing new life to something that would normally end up in a landfill. Love your videos!

I love a fan restore . I have a fan from 1948!!!!! Works just fine after i fixed it up! The paint of them blades was 100% done later , blades on fans form that time where 99.9% of the time just polished metal. Oh by the way , the cloth type washers should have oil on them. You cannot run an old fan dry , not like the modern crappy china bearings that last 2 months.

TysyTube Restoration great work! Subbed! I just wanted to add two things. If you punch things like felt, cork, rubber or other malleable materials it will happen on the first strike with your punch if you use a surface with give for the punch to cut through all the way. Layered cardboard, softwoods, anything that will allow it to punch through cleanly. That anvil will also dull and eventually mushroom the cutting rim. The fan guard (yeah looks real safe haha) was powder coated or ceramic coated originally just like the base. You can easily do this especially with small objects and for cheap too. The powder coating guns and setup can be gotten at harbor freight and the powders are cheap online or locally at a large coating facility that often toss out barrels of the stuff when they change to a new product run and don’t have storage space. For the heating element you can use a toaster oven or a kitchen oven from Craigslist. If you’re really feeling ambitious you can do what I did years ago and get an old freezer off the side of the road and gut it. Then place the heating elements from an old oven on the top and bottom. The oven controls are easy enough to wire outside on the side or door. The only thing I’d probably do differently is remove the stock insulation and put something high temp instead because the stock stuff smoked and stuff lol. It stopped eventually and the outer steel skin never got too hot to cause an issue but it would be nice to feel more comfortable with what the insulation is lol.

A safer alternative to using electrical tape the entire length of the cord,try using shrink tubing that is the same length of the cord.Throwing the original cord away;and replacing it with a brand new one,was a better option;now you are less likely to have a short circuit occurring resulting in the fan catching on fire. One less fire hazard for a potential customer to have to worry about.
