That's very impressive and innovative, taking a civic and retrofitting an AWD drivetrain into it. I'm sure a lot of people have negative comments and thoughts, but I for one think it's very cool and would like to see more of this.
That's what got me. I would've never thought any d-series could handle that much power without vitara pistons and the like, even with the best tune in the world. Even 10 psi from a small turbo can make your rebuilt stock d16 spit rods. AWESOME build.
sweet i was planning on doing the same thing to my 90 lude but it was allot of work and extreamly difficult so i gave up sold out and bought a 93 240sx, love the rwd but really miss the honda's suspension ridigity. Watching this vid has really INSPIRED me to try and resurect my ol lude (still have it) and try and do something similar MAD RESPECT
that is a top motor with some good kit on it, question though it says stock d16z6 engine. did you not uprate any of the internals or lower the compression ratio
dang thats a nice job you did. not only the power and awd conversion, but also the simple, clean look. i say..find a guy with a evo and see how you stack up. even if you dont beat him, it should be close. which is no small feat.
I know its an old comment but no one answered your question. As far as im aware you cant use a B-series engine with the RT4WD drivetrain because the transmission is special with a type of transfer case to drive the rear wheels. These guys shortened the driveline to fit it on the hatch.
I'm still amazed at the fact that they're running a STOCK D16Z6 at 24psi and the bottom end is actually holding together. I guess it's a fact that the tune makes all the difference.
SUUWWEEEEEETT! That is sick dog! I love it. I almost bought a 90 hatch. I should have freakin plunckt down and bought it. I've seen tons of 6th gen tuned hatches, but not a lot of 5th gen. My fav is the AWD part. I wish they'd bring that back. Honda as a whole has been looking weak next to tuned WRXs, and STis.
Yeah definitely keep us updated. I want to see what happens with this drivetrain. If it holds up, then you might be seeing a lot of other people rushing for the RT4WD Wagovans. Please update when new info arises!
Some people just love civics man. Others love corvettes and others just prefer bikes. I'd love to have my civic 4wd, even though I'm with you and I'd rather have a prelude fixed up.
i had this same idea i wanted to do to a 98 civic ex coupe. though i love hatches it would jus seem like the hatch would weigh it down more than a coupe but thats jus my opinion. but u did an amazing job an i love it
i'm sure 500hp b18's and k20's are used for track only purposes. a 10 sec civic is never intended for street use. but i feel what youre saying. btw this 4wd ef is one of my favorite civics on youtube. the spoon b18c5 ef is also up there.
ryonty; is your hatch running open rear diff???? Cause that would explain your wheel spin issue, awd don't mean shit if your diffs are open...You look at cars like ken blocks' STi, it launches with only a little spin through 1st. He's making 530whp, with a limited slip rear diff, albeit hes going through 285 series tires... Still, your car sounds sick!!!!
when i first read about "d16z6" i said "damn thats a lot of work" but when i read about the awd i said "F U C K..THATS A LOT OF WORK!!!!"..5 stars from me..keep it up guys :)
@xXIonTechXx the only difference with the block is with the oiling and bolt patterns and all the fast ones are rwd using gm trans and i dont see any evo motors with 1400hp... just non mivec dsm motors
its sick... I want a 91 to throw my b156 and to4 in so bad... idc if its a 4 dr.. ef... idk 400... maybe 300.. and what awd setup is it? iove been hearing some crazy stuff being swapped.. but 3-400 w.e hp. to all 4 your losing some power, like 30%.. id like tosee a rwd 4 door with b/d boosted. :)
I am interested in doing this with my crx, i have a d16a6 I would fully build and turbo, but as for the drivetrain did it require alot of fabrication of did it just bolt in?
I got a few questions im looking to do the same setup on my 97 dx but A few things caught my attention with the Real-Time 4wd a problem i read with touqe being put to the rear wheels and the idea that after a while of sitting the system or the center diff gunks up and doesnt work at all.. have you found an after market fultime lock for the real time? if you have do u have a site i could find it OR if not how did u solve the problem of the even power distribution? thanks!
@rafaelislife5 ef civic = 2-500 quid, k20 engine - around 2k, all fitted for around 3k, then you gotta strip prep weld re-enforce + balance, after that, you need another 2k into suspenion/brakes, custom exhaust, map and re-work the stock gear ratios. better tyres, good fuel and paint makes it work out roughly 10-15k. thats a 400+ hp evo IV/sti/r32 skyline territory.
He can simply be using an d16a6 tranny with the original d series wagovan AWD system. not hard to understand. The tranny uses a cable clutch but uses shift linkages like any other. He can even buy a hydro conversion and go that route too so does it matter what d series tranny it is?
im not a fan of ricers but when they are done rite and are fast i like them.this is my favorite honda ever! i love this lil car! i would put the stock rims and tires on it,take the sticker off the side and go around beating on evo's,sti's and eclipses. it would be awsome if it looked completly stock but performed like this.people would think its just got a fart can exhaust until they find out its not a 17 second car! lol awsome job! wheres the car now?
haha, lol, yea, did some homework myself, you can also use a b series with the awd civic, just haven't quite figured out the full details on it though, and also you can use a k series with the newer crv's, my buddy put 500+ hp to his crv, stupid, but crazy at the same time, lol
Are there any parts any one makes to lock the transfer case and the rear diff so where its full time awd? perhaps replace the clutches and hydrolic lines with something machined to fit and hook up solid.
