Tour of the Titanium Diamondback DBR Axis TT goodwill score. It's not very often you find such a great goodwill / thrift store find but oh is it a rush when you do!
Updates on ongoing and future projects include the Fisher Montare tune up, stuck stem removal on a bridgestone RB1 and a Rocky Mountain Vertax TO custom build.
Check out our shop for tons of vintage mountain and road bike parts.

Trek didn’t buy bontrager until 1995

Did you ever realise the bikes mostly standard other than the paul levers and rear saddle?

All that Bontrager stuff were quality accessories when that bike was being built up. Whoever built it just liked Bontrager.

It really is an epic find! Goodwill and other thrift stores now scrutinize all the donations for high end/valuable donations.

Ya I have been thinking about that and I think part of it has to do with it being only marked DBR which stands for Diamondback racing but if you just search DBR not much info comes up.

Trek bought out Bontrager around 1995. Prior to that Bontrager parts were mounted on Bontrager bikes but also as aftermarket parts. I'm not saying that they're original on that bike, but they weren't "Trek parts" if the bike is pre buy-out.

All the bontrager kit is original to the bike!

Interesting looking lower legs on that fork. Lovely looking bike. Kinda surprised to see 8 speed (I think I counted correctly!) paired with cantilever brakes. In my head I thought by the time mtbs had progressed to eight speed they'd also progressed to V-brakes, generally. Loving that titanium frame. It's a handsome bike!

In Las Vegas this would be a $125 at the Goodwill...I Stopped shopping there when I started finding used oil filters for cars marked at $7....a sign of the times I guess..not Good Will left at Goodwill!

My local Goodwills used to just let anything go through their retail stores, but they've gotten really good about researching their bike donations and they send the "good stuff" to their online auctions. Some of my more memorable Goodwill scores include: -1999 Ibis Mojo hardtail -1996 Bontrager Privateer -1995 DBR WCF Vertex -1987 Miyata 1000LT -1985 Hutch Wind Styler -1982 Schwinn King Sting 5 speed Even more wild is that all of these ranged from $5 to $40! I wish I had jept the King Sting. It was almost mint and had a ton of blue ano parts. What was wild is that the Goodwill had a lair of them. The silver with blue 5 speed and a black with gold ano 10 speed. Someone was already buying that one. They were $19.99 each!

I had Marzochi shocks as my second shocks ever. Maybe 1 1/2 inches of travel. Blew them out and had to ride twenty miles back on a luckily concrete bike path. I paid maybe a whopping $75 for them back in the early 1990's. Never bought used shocks since then.

yikes, that had to be a long slog with a collapsed fork.

@@GringineerCycles yeah i kept putting air back In them and it kept coming out. I had just elastomer forks for a long time after that.

The XC 500 was introduced in 1994. There are seal kits available. I have a NOS sitting here for my next build. You have a great find there. What did you pay for it?
