In today's video, we are renovating a wood stove hearth pad. We've had the same hearth pad for a while, and now it's finally time to upgrade it to match the house better. The tiles we were originally going to use arrived broken, so we settled on a different look instead. Which tile do you prefer? We trimmed the hearth pad with wood and stained it the same color as the other wood accents in the rest of the house. Let us know what you think of this epic hearth pad renovation in the comments!

Corrugated tin on the wall behind the wood burning stove would be a great idea and it should help reflect some of the heat back into the room.

With the inside & outside temps, my heater would have been on weeks ago. I hate the cold. Supplying your combustion heater with outside air is a smart move as you said it stops the cold draughts under doors etc. The heater is then more efficient.

You would be doing the new fireplace hearth a severe disservice if you went with fake stone...😢 Personally, I'd put your hemlock mantle in place, column it down the sides, and find some rustic tin to place in the insert. BEAUTIFUL comes to mind...😂😅 Love ya'll ❤️

You showed us the barndominium of Our Dream in the Woods... but it looks exactly like a timber frame barn that is being built on the Jake Rosenfeld channel. Jake is doing all of that BY HIMSELF... (of course he has a crane and a telehandler)... and his last building was lots of steel. I couldn't believe... but they look so much alike. I'm going to have to go to Our Dream in the Woods and check it out.

Next time get some air hose 1/4” or whatever size fits the tube, for aquariums and extend your foam tube two or three feet. So you can spray foam in tight spaces.

Good job but you should put a turn downs on your pipes that are by your solar panel so rain can't get in it
@peter-hr1gl

You will want to put a fine grate over the inlet portion of your fresh air pipe by the fireplace. The cover on the exterior portion will keep mice, squirrels and other bigger animals out of the pipe, but not BUGS. Bugs will be seeking warmth and will come right into our living space through that wonderful gaping hole. Otherwise looks really good and definitely an improvement. I assume you painted the stove with fire rated paint, but you didn't mention it. Also it appears you cleaned the creosote from the piping, but didn't show that either (might have been nice to explain how you cleaned out the creosote and what you used).

It's just blocking. No real structural integrity needed. Straighter the pipe, the better the flow, especially if not under pressure.

@wesleyasamoto3238
@wesleyasamoto3238 12 дней назад
I have heard of several house fires started from dirty fireplace chimney or wood stove flue, so I checked to see how often must they be cleaned. Here is what I found: "Wood-burning fireplaces and stoves: Chimneys used with wood-burning appliances should be cleaned and inspected more frequently, typically every 50 to 70 fires. If you use your fireplace or wood-burning stove frequently during the heating season, consider scheduling a cleaning mid-season to remove creosote buildup. Creosote is a highly flammable substance that accumulates as a byproduct of burning wood, and its removal is crucial for fire safety."

Have you considered an ERV or HERV? It can balance all the air flow for the house and make it not such cold air from the outside without heating it first.

FYI, after 36" switching to single wall or putting a heat shield on and using single wall pipe will drastically increase the heat output because the pipe will massively radiate heat into the room instead of going up the chimney.
