It has Disney vibes because that song was recorded to promote an attraction in a theme park in Netherlands called "Danse Macabre". They actually beat their goal! xD
The story (as told in previous months) behind the attraction is that in 1876 (Oct. 13th -Friday) there was a music concourse in the Abbey of Kaatsheuvel (Place Efteling is located), which is the building you'll be entering... Conductor Joseph Charlatan and his orchestra played Danse Macabre (the piece EPICA covered in this clip) and one by one the orchestra started dying mysterious deaths around the Abbey, they are haunting the Abbey. The only other thing we've been told is that it seems there's a black cat (also seen at the entrance) involved in this and something called 'het onnoembare' (The Unnamable) The area outside the Abbey* is run by quacks, which are descendants of Conductor Joseph Charlatan and own a possessed street organ 'Esmeralda' who lead them to the place -they'll give a show end tell the story before you even enter the queue *= they're running a small 'Tavern' known as 'In den Swarte Kat' (In thy Black Kitten), a Toiletbuilding known as 'De Laetste Hoop' (Last Hope), a food point known as 'Het Koetshuys' (Carriage Storage) and a souvenirshop at the exit of the attraction Fun Fact: Efteling went over budget on this project, instead of the original 25,000,000€ it was supposed to cost it became 35,000,000€ (Whoopsie) And like a few others already said, Kate Bush has recorded her Wuthering Heights clip at the same location when previous attraction Spookslot opened in 1978, So EPICA is in good company
Theme park The Efteling has nothing to do with Disney. Back in 1978 they also made a videoclip with Kate Bush. (Attraction 'Het Spookslot'/'The Ghostcastle') So Epica is in very good company 🙂
This is an amazing collaboration between Epica and Dutch (and Europe's second most visited) themepark Efteling as promotion for their new attraction (haunted house) Danse Macabre, which opens on October 31. This video is actually shot at the Danse Macabre! Epica surely delivered!
This song is actually an adaptation of a piece written in the 1870's by the French composer Camille Saint-Saëns called "La Danse Macabre", which is itself based on the European legend from the Middle Ages that at midnight at Halloween the dead would rise from their graves and dance until the break of dawn. Epica have written lyrics to it and added some metal elements, but it's otherwise very close to the original. You asked for further suggestions. There is a new symphonic metal band from Denmark called Memoir Sonata. They have one album out, and on their RU-vid channel you can find three songs taken from a concert they did around a year ago. They are all good, and very much recommended!
Fell in love immediately with the song when they premiered it in their “Symphonic Synergy” live show. ❤ Was at both evenings and watched the live-stream twice later. Great show with live orchestra and choirs. Thanks for this reaction.
you are absolutely right and many will agree with you that there are strong disney vibes from this song and video and lyrics. this was of course intended because both the video and the song were made in collaboration with the famous fairytale theme park in Europe - De Efteling, the second most visited in Europe, in honor of the opening of their new attraction "Danse macabre", this new attraction and decorations you can see in the video 😁 the song itself is based on the classic melody of Camille Saint-Saens.
Take a look at this one, filmed at the opening of the "Spookslot" (haunted castle) attraction at the Efteling: "Kate Bush (Efteling) - original recording 1978 • TopPop". Simone is channeling Kate Bush (her singing later on; the white dress.. all references). Notice in the og clip from 1978 Kate's tombstone and then Epica's in this clip. Besides all that, the Efteling theme park predates Disney and is way above that US cr@p.
jamanji i maybe know song like this that is very good and something like epica to do a reaction with. the name of the band is called ad infinitum and the name of the song is unstoppable
I am not 100% sure the ode to thriller was intentional. If it was, it's a double nod, since the lore of the ride this song is promoting has a evil force in the body of a kitten with Heterochromia, one eye is green, one eye is blue. The music video is suggesting that Simone is actually a manifestation of that evil force.
